SMH: Great halves divided on Smith's value to Eels

I'm going to say I only read that article and not another post in this thread so sorry if I'm repeating something that's already been argued but I have to say it.

How the hell does Finch manage to evade the calls of "drop him!" from the media? All this pressure on Tim Smith, he's playing inside a five-eighth with a sub-par kicking game and zero creativity who gets by on his so called "determination", the determination that should be called "trying but (always) failing". If we somehow managed to win the comp this year it would be with Tim Smith at halfback, not Finch. I can't help but remember Tim's form when playing inside Blake Green, he looked like a leader and very comfortable in his role.

Oh yeah, and isn't he running in the top 3 - 5 for try assists this year? That's the guy we should be dropping to win the comp?

im sick of hearing crap like this post.

if we had a better forward pack Tim would be a star
Jarrd Hayne Ddoesnt run back to the line at fullback
Drop Ben smith for inu blah blah blah

Its simple the guy is a non performer. He has been given three seasons to prove his worth at halfback. We all know Brett Finch is not a 5/8 he is a halfback.

I beg Hagan to drop him ASAP if we have any chance at finals time.

If he doesnt get dropped were gone simple as that.

I mean does anyone here really think we are a threat to melbourne or manly ??? Or even a threat at finals time??? Common be realistic we will be lucky to make the 8 the bubble has burst.

:D How is that egg going on your face buddy, Long reign the most talanted young half in the game, will lead us to semi final glory. I will say goodbye now because as we will not lose another game this year I realise you will not post again till next season.

If you are quoting me, Bigfella, let me say this..."Should have been..and could have been" and maybe the Eels would be in better shape than they are at the moment.
Things, like Mormons, go in cycles...Lose four, get your act in place and you can win the next five.
It is too late now to replace Tim Smith. He has had his moments in 2007, but his form in big games still worries me. I hope he proves me very wrong. He is a confidence player who needs to have his confidence up. If he is not performing..get him off. Put PJ at pivot and put Finch into half. It is too late coming out after the game saying "It was all my fault" Either he is up to it or he ain't. I am willing him to put in a dominant effort against the Broncs. You will be able to tell after 10 minutes if the team is hot or cold...just watch how T Smith is performing. It hinges on HIM.
Any team, on any given day, can beat any other team the way the exhibitions are staged these days.
If the Eels beat Broncos they will finish fifth. I have NO FEAR of them playing the Warriors in New Zealand.

I posted that last night on another thread...Tim Smith ran the ball rather than use a predictable kick. Good on him..His confidence was sky high today.

When we put on 30  you goose. He put Hayne over for our second try. Your hatred of Smith knows no bounds.

I would have looked good playing inside Timmy today. Finch can stay there for this year but next year Kris Keating should be the man.

But that's sort of his role - leave the main playmaking and direction to Tim and chime in only when necessary. And when it mattered, Finch stood up - Inu's first try came from a Finch bomb. He also diffused that grubber kick late in the match and put is in a position to attack their line again.

I'm not saying he's an attacking dynamo, but when you consider his role in the side, I believe he played well.
