NSW

Kurt Gidley (c)
Captain courageous. But courage only gets you so far. Is fullback his right spot for Origin? 6
Jarryd Hayne

That's twice in a row this bloke's given it his best crack at winning an Origin from the left wing. 9 (BEST ON FIELD)
Joel Monaghan
Poked his head into a few holes but never busted free. 6.5
Jamie Lyon
Not his worst Origin but surely his last. Might be serving drinks in Wee Waa the next time NSW win a series. 4.5
David Williams
Did the pink dye drain into his brain? There's more security in Baghdad than when the Wolfman ran with the ball. 2
Trent Barrett
Supposed to come back and do an "Alfie", got confused in the twilight zone and came out as Les Boyd to rob the match of its best player. 6
Peter Wallace
Ginger Meggs will be reading the comics next time Origin is played after an insipid display showed him out of his depth. 1.5
Brent Kite
This kite was well and truly grounded - first by opposition forwards and then by Bellamy, who's never liked him. 5
Robbie Farah

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. NSW never seemed to have enough troops; this one made too many blues. 4
Michael Weyman
Someone likes their sweets. Played like a cream bun in game one; toffee this time, with a lot more crunch. 6.5
Ben Creagh
Supposed to be the Blues' target man in attack to take out Locky; taken out of action himself most of the time. 6
Luke O'Donnell

Rough and ready, loves the rumble and kept the pressure on Queensland when the Blues rose from the dead. 8
Paul Gallen
The country member for Cronulla (yep, Mickey Paea remembers) had a forgettable start and little improved by the end. 6

Interchange

Josh Morris

Called in to replace Craig Wing after a mix-up; they chose the bloke built like a utility. So-so debut. 5
Justin Poore
Nice shot on the chin of Crocker, who's been asking for it for years. Not much else that was memorable. 5
Glenn Stewart

Energetic game, spoilt by a couple of mistakes but showed he could handle the rise in class. 6.5
Anthony Watmough
The man with the craziest eyes in league was the Blues best off the bench - and better than many starters. 7.5

QLD

Billy Slater

Human after all, made a few errors and never as incisive in attack as he can be. 6.5
Darius Boyd
Ball rarely found its way to his side. No blemishes either and rode Lyon over the sideline to snuff out the Blues. 6
Greg Inglis

Thin Mal. Looked absolutely brilliant with try and a dazzling run before some thug stole his man-of-the-match medal. 8
Willie Tonga

Not seen in this company for several years; punishing defence helped establish Maroon ascendancy. 7.5
Israel Folau
Despite his manifest qualities is becoming something of a target. Clocked off a couple of times in defence. 6.5
Darren Lockyer (c)

Mike Brearley? Looked that way in game one but much more involved last night. 7
Johnathan Thurston
The everywhere man. Didn't lay on the tries like he often does but still managed to be johnny on the spot when needed. 8
Steve Price

High Court judges have to retire at 70: maybe we need a referendum on a mandatory retirement age for props. 7.5
Cameron Smith
Hope his elbow is not to sore after clocking Peter Wallace. Perhaps he had tackled himself stupid? 7.5
Petero Civoniceva
If NSW ever want to win a series again, they'd best start with beating big Pet and Price, who look like they could still do it in walking frames. 7.5
Ashley Harrison

As dull a player to ever lace the boot, but like flour to a cake: Queensland don't rise without someone like him. 7.5
Sam Thaiday
Played a little wide and loose enough to get his curls bouncing. A threat early on the right. 8
Dallas Johnson
The grunt man has had a tough year, losing form and - yesterday - his breakfast. Still did the job. 7

Interchange

Karmichael Hunt

Injury again meant he was thrust into the centres where he looked lost. Safe but never able to assert himself. 6
Ben Hannant
A buggered leg, who cares: I've got another. Ran with plenty of gusto despite his injury and tackled strongly. 8
Nate Myles
Apparently the sort of footballer a girl is happy to take home to meet Dad. Met a few Blues with solid defence. 7
Michael Crocker

Hard to say it's so but the growling dog had his worst ever Origin with too many spilled balls. 4

yeah i couldn't work out man of the match either. thaiday must of bribed the judges in the handicap toilet. and bellamy has hated kite ever since he signed for manly instead of the storm, why pick him if you don't use him. surely there has to be a better coach than bellamy to lead you lost fools out of the darkness

I was very pleased with the Parra boys last night. Hayne has elevated himself to equal status of Inglis, Lockyer & Co. His ball carries were impressive and it seems he has eliminated the "walk shimmy" from his game.

Also very happy with Justin Poore's effort. He got through a mountain of work (42 tackles) and whilst he's no Petro at the moment, he's a great signing for the club. Love the clanger on Crocker.

Outside the Eels, I thought that O'Donnell. Watmough, Barrett, Lyon & Gidley were our best.

Surely Ennis will get the gig in game 3 ?

I think crocker landed a few before poore got in a glancing blow  .... still, none of our current forwards would have had that much aggression, so :thumn

tbh I thought poore was quite poor with the ball (boom tish!) - a few drops and got dominated many times .... didn't realise he did that much defense - and tbh he (and farah) had a woeful miss in folau for his try

awful result but not surprising. as with game 1 it was qld vs hayne with a handful of cameos of support.

wallace was average at best and i can't believe he stayed in the team ahead of campese. mullen should've been the 7 in that side from the start and ennis (as much of a tool as he is) should've got a bench spot. cooper should've probably got a centre spot as well. there's no way we can match that qld side for strike power so we should've gone for players that are strong defenders.

i'd also like to see brian smith get the blues coaching gig next year. the side needs a good tactical brain to get out of this flat patch.

Best game I have seen Watmough play. He lifted us massively.

Hayne and Gidley were our best by miles. Colonel has got the S785s with Kurt Gidley like he did with Mitchell Johnson ...?

Barrett proved that fast lateral passing is the biggest asset a half can have in Origin. Pair him with Mullen in game 3 and see how we improve.

Wolfman WTF???? One of the worst Origin games ever.

Was Paul Gallen still out with injury?

Cracking game but the biggest area we are behind them is the front row. Their line speed in defence is faster as their forwards are more used to the pace. Their go forward is far better and they can grind games out.

Poore was good and Hayne best on ground both games so far just about.

I agree with you but I would put in Soward at 6 and Barrett at 7. Soward's kicking game is what we need. I agree with you about Watmough. He was very good.

I don't rate Gidley as a fullback at rep level. He is a utility player and would have worn 14 against the Maroons had Stewart been fit. That said he had a very good game in the centre of the park when he was playing around the ruck and running off Barrett - which is exactly how he plays at Newcastle.

Wouldn't Inu be loving the clean balls in space that Barrett was feeding Lyon last night ?

exactly. maybe someone should show our halves what a cutout pass is. that's pretty much all Barrett was doing last night, throw a double cutout to Lyon and it looked dangerous. If that was Jennings(i know he plays on the left) or someone with a serious amount of speed then they could've done a lot then. But then Williams would've just f*&ked it up anyway
