So will Gallop get this fixed before ANZAC day?

WSW membership numbers were pretty solid. I think 7k.

Will probably have more members than a few NRL clubs next year. With their 'catchment' area, they have the potential to do very well. That said, a bad season or two and it may be back to 8k crowds and disappearing members...

Oh really?

From a soccer mag so hardly bias against Soccer

Very similar to what RL clubs do without Government funding

From the article
The PM said the new investment would be targetted at improving the infrastructure for the sport in the West and supporting the women's game, with $1m set aside for that alone.

Another $3 million will be spent redeveloping the Football NSW HQ, which will see it likely become the training base for the new West Sydney side.

The remainder will be spent from grassroots up to elite level.

So funding for WSW=$0!

I would argue it does - more coverage means more interest means more sponsors bigger crowds, gate takings, memberships merchandise etc. Look it might fail next year i dont know - but seems to be a lot on here bagging a very succesful beginning for a club that didnt even exist a year ago.

The Gold Coast Titans inaugural season in terms of crowds, gate takings, merchandise etc shits on the wanderers from a great height. Averaged 21,000 for the season, with 2 x 40,000+ regular season games. This is a season in which they never troubled the top 8 and finished a paltry 12th.

The Wanderers simply have the most epic media bandwagon seen in recent memory (I say MEDIA bandwagon, as despite what they'd have you believe their supporter base is actually not very big as proven by their crowd numbers). If the NRL were to launch a new side in Perth or worse still in a league heartland like the Central Coast and they pulled the same numbers that the wanderers have Rothfield and his cronies would be calling them a dismal failure.

You forget that they did not have the 2 years lead up time, anticipation, and marketing build up that the Titans had. They were formed 5 months before the season started and managed to make the GF without any major player concessions. For that alone they deserve the media attention.

As you also say the Titans played both St Merge and Brisbane at Suncorp to get big crowds. WSW on the other hand, sacrificed potential average-boosting crowds of 30k-40k at ANZ in their 2 derbies against Sydney FC because they had promised their supporters that they would play all their home games at Parra.

Comprehension not a strong point Loudy??

The first quote was in reference to people complaining about the poznan, and the "endless chanting".

The second was about the clip I posted from Youtube of the FSU seminoles fans in attendance at a regular season game.

Clearly they show that I approve of breaking chairs, and I also approve of breaking fences.

Well done.
If thats the case, then why all your ramblings about atmosphere?

Its ok for you to link seat damage with atmosphere when you are bagging RL, and suddenly the damage and atmosphere are different?

Get this - the style of atmosphere was created by the noise and movement of the crowd, which involved jumping on chairs. Geddit?

League fans - apart from you ransacking Penrith - dont do that. At worst, our seats get peed on at Suncorp. Different atmospheres.

And atmosphere is not just f*cking noise. The bits I saw of the last soccer world cup may have been played in a f*cking beehive - there was no crowd response to penalties, scoring chances missed etc.

Lets be fair dinkum, the Wanderers are no threat to the NRL. They play a summer comp for starters. Soccer and League have co-existed in the west for decades, even to the extent that the Eels had their own elite soccer side once. Soccer deserves success in the west because of the long contributions made by clubs such as Marconi.

I'd much rather see the Wanderers succeed than those dopey homeless twats GWS.

That said, the Wanderers are as yet a one season blow in, and they have already thrown a swag of cheap shots toward Parramatta in particular, and now the NRL. Its pointless and stupid, much like you and other gimps attacking the atmosphere at League games.

Co-exist, or fight a battle that Union and AFL have already been shredded upon.

I have no problem with a new team that made a GF getting a lot of media coverage. My problem is all this BS about how NRL teams should be looking to them as some sort of bar for success. If any NRL performed on the same level as the wanderers in terms of crowds and tv viewers we would be a laughing stock and all these same people in the media would be mocking us.

It was a good first season for a team in the A league and that can be commended. However suggesting that they are some shining beacon that other sporting codes or teams should look to is nonsense. There is a fairly obvious bias behind a lot of it as well.

They've definitely shown up the VFL on how to expand and have shown the A-League itself why expansion into Queensland went so wrong.

As for comparisons/criticisms to the NRL, that's just the Telegraph picking a new favourite. The only thing the Wanderers did that NRL clubs can do is engage more with the community/supporter base. They had about 10 open forums before the season began. I don't know about the other 15 clubs but the last time Souths invited members (for free) to an open forum with the coach and CEO was in 2008.

Rugby League and Soccer are allies in the battle to destroy vFL in western Sydney which they are doing. The thing that annoys most people about the WSW is the fact that Julia's goverment gave them millions in start up fee's and running costs.
Will Julia's goverment give millions to start up a NRL club in Perth?

Probabky not as
A) The NRL won't ask for it
B) Perth isn't a key marginals eat for Labour.

Such is the joy of a democratic political system where parties need to try to win votes by pork barelling certain regions.

I never blame clubs or codes for squeezing money out of governments, bloody good work if you can get some imo.

If you read anything in the DT, it suggests that the NRL should be learning from this club as a beacon, when from all key indicators, it lags well behind any NRL club.

I think News Ltd has given orders to try and promote A-League at any opportunity. Especially at the expense of Rugby League, which is why A-League stuff (well Wanderers) appears so often in NRL articles.

I'd be gutted if WC pirates were admitted and in our first year we got the crowds that the WSW got! Wouldn't mind the GF appearance though.

I have no problem with codes getting it BUT Professional clubs shouldn't get it.

Anyway back to the Hooligans. Could you imagine the outrage at any organisation turning a blind eye to illegal activity? Flares are illegal Do something David

I have mates who's kids play soccer they say it's so expensive. Would the parents want cheap rego or a shiny new training pitch for 1 of the 2 Sydney teams to use? Especially as their current training base is less then 5 years old

Big Sam. Do any other A League teams do the same community stuff? Or is it becuase of the extra funding

No the funding went only to training facilities and the women's team. The Wanderers are 100% FFA funded.

I see no difference between the Govt funding they received for their training ground and the funding Souths received for the Redfern upgrade, or the Govt-funded upgrades the Dragons got to Kogarah and WIN.

A lot of the reason Rugby League has missed govt funding is because, being owned by News Ltd, governments would merely be funding the richest media empire on earth. Under News' ownership, the NRL could never go to the government as a stand alone sports body.

Now it can.

Exactly my point. Atmosphere has nothing to do with what people do with seats.

My ramblings about atmosphere were aimed at those, you included, who were complaining about the style of support given to the game.

As I have said so many times previously, who cares how they choose to support their team? The fact is that they do, and create an amazing atmosphere for the players and spectators alike.

You forgot about the CSSC destroying fences in Newcastle.... or we could just say they accidentally damaged the fence. Far easier to claim that they intentionally broke it because the are RL hooligans.

Thats going to be my stance now. Any damage at all caused at an event is the work of hooligans.

After the WSW broke the chairs, they took photos. After the CSSC collapsed a fence, they took photos. After we bent a seat at Penrith, we took a photo. Dont go claiming that one's actions of posting pictures online proves that all the damage was intentional.

And atmosphere is not just f*cking noise. The bits I saw of the last soccer world cup may have been played in a f*cking beehive - there was no crowd response to penalties, scoring chances missed etc.

Whats your point? WSW support their club differently to those at the WC?

Will you f*cking stop banging on about how this is in anyway condoned by atmosphere ffs?

I actually didnt know about that. I didnt know about the WSW destruction until I first read this thread.

Welcome to the thinking world! Of course it was done by f*cking hooligans!!!!!!

After the WSW broke the chairs, they took photos. After the CSSC collapsed a fence, they took photos. After we bent a seat at Penrith, we took a photo. Dont go claiming that one's actions of posting pictures online proves that all the damage was intentional.
Damage is either intentional, or from misuse, which is intentional. You might not have decided to break chairs, but you decided to misuse them. Guess what - they broke. Well duh!!!!!!

Whats your point? WSW support their club differently to those at the WC?
Its all just f*cking generating noise for the sake of it, whether its from a crowd full of zazavulus or a crowd full of geniuss.
