The NRL is a young man's game. There are exceptions but they are generally halves or outliers.
Cam Mcinnes is 31 going on 51. The argument, 'yeah but he competes' is the mantra of a loser. It's about effectiveness.
If you have little to no effect on the comp week after week your time is up.
They ran up 12 points. Mcplod went off.
Young mobile backrowers in burns and colqhoun came on and the tide stemmed until....mcplod re-entered the fray.
15 minutes later they're 30+.
Can't blame the little anchor for Kennedy being out jumped twice by a forward, but those things happen when you lose the advantage line. They get time to create those opportunities.

Ran a nice little blindside play in the 78th minute when the game was over.
But totally, totally devoid of ideas or how to get this side going. His opposite today is just everywhere, running hard, eternally scheming and has defenders in two minds with every touch.
The half hearted soft running with the telegraph passes...no short kicking game...hospital balls...and so on.

Right. How good did our point of difference look with him playing.
Then every run he made actually was AFB like in post contact metres.
He and Toby showed real will and energy.

The fact is we have a better player more capable to play to the modern game.
I've been passionate about Colquhoun for a very long time. His injuries have slaved him, but when you see a genuine footballer you know.
The worst thing is that Fitz sees it as well, that's why he's kept him as first cab in waiting.
The time I now, and I actually like the team better with McInnes on the bench, a more rounded 4.

McLean had one of the teams worst play the ball speeds. Because he gets f**king dominated and surrender tackles don’t earn a fast play the ball as you can be laid on for longer.

McInnes used to at least hit his front and keep things rolling. I've never been fussed on him but could understand why he's probably the sort of player the others like having on the park, a dependable hard worker who'll tackle all day. Now he just looks like a punch drunk old boxer getting smashed around ring (quiet up the back!) which tbh with all the head knocks he's copped probably isn't far off the mark.

Having the dishonour of watching the Sharks live today has made me even more pessimistic about this season. We can talk about individual players as much as we want, but this team, structurally and effort-wise, is absolutely appalling.

For 72 minutes, they tried the same thing with the ball over and over again and only changed with 8 minutes to go - where they preceded to drop the ball because they aren’t used to playing. The same thing? Kick return, back hit up, back hit up, back hit up, forward hit up, and kick. What makes it worse is that there is zero off ball movement so those hit ups are generally ineffective.

This is a coaching and attitude problem that I don’t see turning around any time soon. All this talk of switching Hynes and Trindall is pointless because as a team there is no creativity or compete. In the last few years the team looked best when each play would have 2-4 options they could make based on what was in front of them, these days there is only one option - no deception, no making defenders make decisions.

The issue is that there is zero off-ball movement. If players aren’t getting it, they aren’t standing back, walking, and never being an option.

I’m not defending the halves at all, but this mess is bigger than “the halves aren’t playing well”. The entire gameplan and team are f**ked.

There are some serious deficiencies in the basics of our game. In the early exchanges they were picking our players up and driving them back at lest 10 metres - it looked like boys vs men.

I cannot believe players haven’t been taught to drop their body weight to the ground once their lose their feet and get driven backwards.

Our play the ball speed was horrendous.

Thanks to the Ronaldo shenanigans when we played at home - Melbourne were up for it today. Truly we had nothing.

Talakai probably should have had two tries himself if he dummied instead of passing in the first half. Also unlucky not to score off the kick in the second half. Would have been arsey though yes.

was a pretty tight contest for about 65 minutes. They are a bit damn’d if they do, damn’d if they don’t. Nicho try’s a kick last week with a minute left in the first half for katoa for something different. Katoa gets sin binned and Nicho gets flamed for not going for a field goal or seeing out the set. This week, they play the kick to the corners and stay in the grind until Kennedy decides to let Katoa stroll through and catch the ball, and they all drop their heads and turn to panic plays. This comes down to Frailty’s points a bit. How often does this seem to happen? We go 8 or 12 down and we play panic football. It’s almost like we don’t train for specific situations within a game.

It’s not that at all. It’s more pure disinterest - “I’m not getting the ball, why would I look like I am?”. They’re literally walking in a bunched group - they’re not waiting for the next play.

I’ve never seen a playing group look so disinterested when they have the ball.
