I can't believe any coach would see a player of LM's talent and say nah might be too hard to get him to train hard or focus.

Every coach at that level would surely back themselves to get the best out of one of the best players in the comp.

Fingers crossed the first bit of info is correct.

Intrigue, mystery and innuendo are all part and parcel of the rich tapestry of rugby league recruitment.

Gal was responsible for a lot of the players turning up to the sharks. Perhaps we can put him on the payroll.

Destination? Tigers!

I can totally see someone not wanting Latrell. They don't want to pay what equates to be a 1mil a year for him. He is good when he's on but for that money you need to be on all the time every game and he does drift in and out of games. Plus is he fit enough to be the force he can be a centre from the back....
It will either go great or be a turd of a call.

Trent Robinson reveals talks that led to Chooks pulling $800k offer to Latrell Mitchell

Roosters coach Trent Robinson has lifted the lid on the conversation which sparked the speculation over the future of centre Latrell Mitchell.

Mitchell, 22, is off contract this year and is reportedly nearing a switch to the Wests Tigers or the North Queensland Cowboys after the Roosters withdrew their $800,000-a-year deal.

The centre has been back in his hometown of Taree helping out with the bushfires, after a face-to-face meeting with Robinson in which he was informed the Chooks were pulling their offer.

And on Monday, Robinson played down talk of a fallout and a breakdown in his relationship with Mitchell.

“Latrell and I sat down 10 days ago and it was really simple,” Robinson told SEN Breakfast.

“There’s a lot that’s been said but Latrell’s a good man and he’s delivered for the Roosters and he wants to explore his opportunities.

“A lot’s been written and we’re happy for him to do that it’s just we can’t sit and wait for that to happen, we’ve got to move on as well.”

There were suggestions the reason Mitchell wants to leave is to play fullback.

And with James Tedesco locked into that role at the Roosters, he was keen to explore options where he could wear the No. 1 jersey, which Robinson confirmed.

They also have to lock in the likes of Jared Waerea-Hargreaves and Sio Siua Taukeiaho.

“There’s been a lot that’s been said around the way we feel about it. I don’t give energy to it to be honest. Latrell’s a good man, we’ve got a good relationship,” Robinson added.

“I think he wants to play fullback, I think that’s his desire. So he’s going to go and explore his opportunities, it’s a simple as that.

“There’s no angst there it’s just he’s out there looking at the moment.”

Corey is freaking out at the moment. It’s ok, he can move to 5/8.

I checked the stats carefully, if Latrell had played for us last season, we would have made the top 4.

Only 13 players or less are permitted to play at any given time. Squeezing Latrell into that limited number is a lot better than buying two or three doofuses.

Plus the residual benefits of having a team on the up. Sponsors, memberships, jerseys as we become a club with significant and creditable claim for finals.

The beauty of our situation is our willing forwards. We don’t need a whole new team, just tweaks here and there -to break cleanly and crisply into the thick of finals fury. We almost got there without him and we are not a club especially well endowed with superstars etc. Most of our players are grunts, but of good footy character and they usually have a go.

LM will know that and what he can bring. By his lofty and elite standards even an ordinary or poorer year will see us nudging the top 4.

Poor old Esan has dimmed our view of the possibilities of a good to middling even standard grade backline.

We have the coach and everything else in place.

This is getting interesting, especially if the rumour is correct that Mage doesn't want him.

Again, my apologies, but I just cant seem to copy and paste from this site.

Madge and co probably base the anticipated signings around players they expect to become available. It takes awhile to get a side close to what you want.

There’s a surprise falling out and lo and behold it’s battle stations.

Thurston is a legend and won the best gf of all time, but LM has just spent a very tough week fighting fires with his family -and even if he’s in Townsville, his heart will still be at home.

In Sydney, he can drive to Taree quite safely in 3 hours.

Jt has put his whole life into the club and he’s massive and confident, but if anything, Latrell is still a bit of a quiet and unwilling hero. He’d rather just be himself.

This is a mistake and the rumors involving Madge should be a warning sign. This smacks of management papering over the cracks...make the 8 and all will be good...it is pure BS.

The very best outcome is Latrelle plays to his potential, gets players player for the year yet is frustrated that we dont have the cattle to go with him. It is 2016/17 with Tedesco all over again and he would be long odds to see his contract out. Its a longshot to put a 9 with a group of 5's and 6's and expect results. You buy and build a team of 7's and 8's and then add the 9 as the finishing touch. We are putting the horse before the cart.

Mitchell has spent the past two years running off Cronk and Keary. Next year Brooks and Marshal will be a drop in class. He has been backing up breaks made by Tedesco, Morris, Fergusson etc..next year? Maybe Brooks. He has had the security of playing alongside a forward pack who show up most games. Thats not the case here. He has been blessed with coming into first grade with a club who accelerated his growth as a player. Here he will be the main point of attack ala Teddy when he was here and he will be forced to increase his work rate or we will likely lose.

Additionally, so far in his career he has experienced the highs of Grandfinals, Blues and Kangaroos victories and the lows of reserve grade relegation, criticism for his stance on the anthem and a very public origin axing. Its been a yo-yo ride that has affected him. His form at the backend of the 2019 season, including the GF, as well as his test against Tonga is down and his judgement seems clouded.

I dont like it.

Some thoughtful and interesting counter-points there Stryker.

Lm scored a whopping 272 points on his own last season that’s way over half of our entire teams points scored. That’s just one player. Another way of looking at it, in attack, 1 Latrell = the scoring impact of 7 Tigers. That’s how good he is.

He would have added an extra 100 points to our for and against and we creep into 4th place on that table.

A lot of our problems last season was due to a very flat, lacklustre and fatigued backline. Yes, the forwards went missing a few times, but not for long.

But there’s only so much they can give if the backline resembles a freak show for half the season. I even saw Robbie running faster than our backs
in a broken play crisis. That was very ordinary.

Lm will solve a lot of problems for us. A couple of hundred grand for the scoring result of 7 players. That’s millions of dollars of value-added.

Plus if he breaks down, he has a fair trade-in value as noted earlier.

Maybe Momo drove up to Taree with Madge?

.Benji was 5th in try assists this year and he played I think 4-6 games less than the guys above him..Taking that into account and the sheer Momentum these other teams turned up with week in week out because of the stars in their teams that Benji didn’t have to help his numbers ..and since I could count the times Benji ran with the ball on the fingers of one hand...I’ll place him around 1st or 2nd in the competition in try assists for sheer skill level .....Keary in 2nd position had 5 more try assists and played 3 more games than Benji and all the momentum he could wish for . Cronk was in 28th position....Benjis a major step up from what Mitchell’s used to ...those two are going to thrive off each other big time..Lattrel is going to get passes from Benji he wouldnt dream of getting from anyone else and with the extra man created ...that’s Benji’s specialty that no one else can compete with .. We know Brooke’s doesn’t tick all the boxes at half back but the ones he does tick and the game he brings is top shelf and is enough with the right players around him to go top 4 and with some luck on the day as applies to all teams wouldn’t look out of place in a premiership winning team.
