This is a mistake and the rumors involving Madge should be a warning sign. This smacks of management papering over the cracks...make the 8 and all will be good...it is pure BS.
The very best outcome is Latrelle plays to his potential, gets players player for the year yet is frustrated that we dont have the cattle to go with him. It is 2016/17 with Tedesco all over again and he would be long odds to see his contract out. Its a longshot to put a 9 with a group of 5's and 6's and expect results. You buy and build a team of 7's and 8's and then add the 9 as the finishing touch. We are putting the horse before the cart.
Mitchell has spent the past two years running off Cronk and Keary. Next year Brooks and Marshal will be a drop in class. He has been backing up breaks made by Tedesco, Morris, Fergusson etc..next year? Maybe Brooks. He has had the security of playing alongside a forward pack who show up most games. Thats not the case here. He has been blessed with coming into first grade with a club who accelerated his growth as a player. Here he will be the main point of attack ala Teddy when he was here and he will be forced to increase his work rate or we will likely lose.
Additionally, so far in his career he has experienced the highs of Grandfinals, Blues and Kangaroos victories and the lows of reserve grade relegation, criticism for his stance on the anthem and a very public origin axing. Its been a yo-yo ride that has affected him. His form at the backend of the 2019 season, including the GF, as well as his test against Tonga is down and his judgement seems clouded.
I dont like it.
I would have thought the only measurement of a team (in any sport), was to be in the finals of the competition. This is a mistake and the rumors involving Madge should be a warning sign. This smacks of management papering over the cracks...make the 8 and all will be good...it is pure BS.

We don't have a bad team, we have come 9th the last 2 seasons, we just need someone to get us wins in those close games.
.....
If we don't sign him, then what is the answer? We got to get someone who can take us to another level and there are not to many of them available. We have tried and tried the development route with no success.
I am all for the development route, but not at the expense of winning. It is too hit and miss.Great points. Our team isn't that bad. We just aren't in the top teams. Players like Latrell may get us to that level.
I do think the development route can work but you still need to manage your cap well and get lucky. Suli and Tedesco are classic examples of how this can go wrong.

That's what Easts do, isn't it.It has flaws doesn't it. There is basically no loyalty. If there was some loyalty it can work but now you just go out and offer more money and players leave.
. Fingers crossed over with hands/arms in the steeple shape with direct eye contact ..“I’m in charge here..” Gemini communicator /leader ..He might be a big city bloke after allLooks like LM is saying something funny (he thinks) but the bloke far left isn't laughing, he is thinking WTF
I can't believe any coach would see a player of LM's talent and say nah might be too hard to get him to train hard or focus.
.

I think that had we had him this year, we would have made the 8 comfortably.

The kid is 22 yo, he is still maturing. Yes, it may be a disaster or, it maybe the making of the rebirth of the club.

I think you've summed up one side of the coin here quite well. Everything you are saying is completely valid. A similar sort of example is Robert Jennings. He played 1 year outside of Inglis and looked like a superstar. He then comes to our club and is basically a reserve grade player. Latrell has known nothing but success at the Roosters. He hasn't had to deal with the frustration of reserve grade players dragging him down, or being one of only a small handful of players at the club to have played finals football. He also isn't proven at fullback. Does our squad really have the ability to give Latrell the attacking opportunities that Tedesco has at the Roosters? This is all a recipe for disaster and the frustration being too much for a young kid who could have easily been the next Greg Inglis.
As I said above, this is one side of the coin.
The other side is that we see a maturity in Latrell that the fans don't see. He comes to our club and shows leadership and work ethic that he wasn't able to find at the Roosters, and relishes the fact he could be the one who breaks the Tigers infamous finals drought. Madge turned Greg Inglis into a Fullback, now Latrell has followed the same path and is one of the most damaging players in the NRL. His success at the Tigers encourages other players of his caliber that they can PROGRESS their career at the Tigers, and we no longer become a laughing stock.
Its a flip of the coin, but given our current mess its a gamble we really need to take
Eating at the watermark usually does that to me tooLooks like LM is saying something funny (he thinks) but the bloke far left isn't laughing, he is thinking WTF

I was talking about the dude on the left, that joint is putrid

They are trying to sign him, not bang him.I’d be hysterics on the floor at Latrell’s joke whatever it was!
Then delicately work into the convo something mildly unkindly about the roosters, which Latrell agrees with. See if he bites. Nothing obvious.
Some firefighting stories from back in the day might help. Shared understandings. It’s very hard work fighting fires.
Ask momo what music he likes and shove it on as a phone ring tone. Get Brooksy to call at the right time, that will relax Latrell further.
Read and memorise his tweets, try to connect with anyone in town who knows and family legends, anything to get him talking about himself, which is what most people aspire to do. It’s gets boring listening to people crap on about themselves but so be it.
Make him feel comfy. And promise him, nothing goes further than the table.
Maybe a video greeting from the boys, but make sure they are reading from a psychologically verified script, nothing subliminally insulting or horrid.
He is really passionate about the culture, which is good, but i would steer away from it, unless he raises it.
Otherwise, whatever it takes.
