yes, see my initial response to this. many others have said the same kind of thing as well. Mateo is more of a playmaker, whereas SBW is more of a ballplaying backrower (an exceptionally gifted one mind you, but he couldn't slot into the halves).

I voted Mateo as per what other Eel fans have said he offers more options to the Eels team than SBW would at a better price.

The question wasn't "Who is the better player ?" I would then answer SBW.

Having said that I don't rate SBW as highly as a lot of other people due to his previous injury proneness ( i hope hes over that) & he has seemed to have gone missing in a few games. I do think he is a good player who can have great impact on a game but the best forward of the modern era IMHO is a huge stretch when you look at guys like Webcke, Petro, Tallis & Hindmarsh just to name a few off the top of my head. Go back further and you get into Price, Lazarus, Spud & Chief but what defines "the modern era"

Again though a lot of guys that know a lot more about footy than I do rate SBW so you have to respect their opinions.

I find it completely unfathomable that someone who has watched any games could say Hindmarsh is hopeless & a nuffy. Ask someone who knows something about League and they rate him. But then thats why opinions are like assholes - Every one has one & some stink !

true, but I think SBW can make a real fist of 6 if it came to the crunch.

I would just think that SBW in 6 would be like having a pack of 7 rather than 6 players. It'd put more pressure on the 7 and 9 as I haven't seen anything to suggest that SBW has a passing or kicking game that could fit well into the halves.

Of course, if you're 7 was playing well, SBW in 6 would probably do ok, getting much more freedom to do what he does best, bruising defence, offloads in traffic and the like.

Question: has anyone who has voted for Mateo actually said that they think he is a better player than SBW? Or is it more likely that those kicking up a stink about people voting for Mateo have only dreamed this in their weird, fevered imaginations....
they offer different things, MAteo is definately better for Parramatta then SBW would be (for all the reasons Baz said). It also depends on what your measures for the best player are, I personally think consistency is vital, Mateo wins there, I refuse to say that either player is "better" they are both good players who offer different things to a team. I response to the question:

Simple question, if you could have one of these players right now in your side who would it be and why considering all factors
I would definately take Mateo, because we are considerring all factors not just who is "better"

you need someone to put those wingers over...they won't get the ball with sh*te in the middle...

i'm not putting sh*t on Feleti, i think he is a great talent and will be a great player - he is just not in the same class as SBW. As has been mentioned, Sonny's been carving it up since he was 18 and he is only 22 now. Mateo is 24 and only just starting to carve it up. Imagine SBW in 2 years time?

where are you all thinking mateo is 24 haha he is 22.

Despite his injuries, so far SBW has done so much. Played international footy and won a comp. I think in time Mateo will achieve both as well.

SBW far and away. Feliti is good, but the hype he got was nothing like the SBW hype.

how hard is it to play for NZ again...? whilst i agree SBW is a freak and an unreal player...
to buy into 'he is an international for NZ' thats a joke as it is not to hard to get a start there

SBW would walk into any team in the world....

your right about certain positions... but not the backrow...

NZ have heaps of depth in the backrow... atleast on an even keel with the origin sides.

if SBW performed at his peak as often as Mateo does, then SBW... but the fact remains that Mateo is the consistent performer, so i'm going with Mateo.

Fact remains that at his peak or not that SBW is consistently better than Felatio Meteo

Whilst I agree with you in sentiment, this is not fact but opinion. Maybe it is widely accepted opinion, but opinion nonetheless.

I mean id rather have Mateo in our side just for the fact that he isnt as injury prone but on playing ability you have to say Williams is better.
