I read it. You obviously think that a no-name who has never played a game of rep footy somehow compares with a superstar like SBW. No backrower can compare with SBW nor would any team turn down the opportunity to have SBW on their roster at the expense of another back rower. It really is a stupid thread. What's next? Who would you rather have? Thurston or Holdsworth? Well duh maybe Holdsworth because we pay him less blah blah... Maybe you should learn the concept of franchise player.

Yeah Holdsworth to JT, Mateo is a fine young talent of the game, Holdsworth is a nuffy, Mateo would be chased by many NRL clubs if he went on the market tomorrow, Holdsworth would be lucky to actually recieve another contract period.

Mateo a very good player who took a few years to get where he is. Hes probably 24 or 25 now.

SBW has been blitzing the comp since he was 18.

One will be remebered as a great club player while the other will be a future immortal if no more serious injuries.

Yep i agree, i think SBW is the best forward i'll ever see, however Feleti is a fine player himself and both are important to each sides chances of success. I just dont like how people are putting sh*t on Feleti.

you need someone to put those wingers over...they won't get the ball with sh*te in the middle...

i'm not putting sh*t on Feleti, i think he is a great talent and will be a great player - he is just not in the same class as SBW. As has been mentioned, Sonny's been carving it up since he was 18 and he is only 22 now. Mateo is 24 and only just starting to carve it up. Imagine SBW in 2 years time?

I rate Mateo highly and bewildered why it took him long to make an impact.....

thats hardly an excuse...

plenty of excelent players came through the Eels in the 10 years Smith was at the helm.
Yeah but Brian Smith didn't tell them that they weren't good enough and would never make 1st grade and shipped them off to the UK.

You don't understand this game League do you?

Civoniceva can't win you a game like SBW can.

Bailey is inconsistent, and even when on song not capable of what SBW is.

Hindmarsh is a glorified nuffy.

Depends which Hindmarsh version you like.

I prefer the attacking, linebreaking Hindmarsh of 2001 to the hardworking, tackling machine of today.

maybe Smith was right at the time...

perhaps thats what Mateo needed to hear to make him goto the next level. smith telling him that may have made him the player his is today.

im a parra fan but i dont buy into alot of the crap fellow eels fans seem to give Brian Smith.

the bloke spent 10 years at the club and while we didnt win a titile in that time you cant fault the blokes effort.

i thought it was right for him to leave but i certainly dont blame him for everything which seems to be what alot of the fans do these days...

whats done is done.. time to look forawrd...

Have i awoken in the Twilight Zone or something?

I think i must have, because it's a far more realisitic scenario than the one where 26 out of about 75 people would actually take Feleti Mateo over Sonny-Bill Williams.

No offense to mateo, he is a talented player who has finally found his place in 1st grade over the last year or so at the age of what? 24? But SBW is an absolute freak who has been blitzing them since 17 years of age.

Bottom line is im not sure whether i should be startled or offended by this comparison. And im not a Dogs support either.

You're missing the point of this thread. It wasn't intented to be who is the better and more successful player, it's who you would rather have at your club. Nothing against Sonny Bill, but i'd prefer Mateo because i'm an Eels fan and he's been brought through the grades through Parra, and that's something which is important to me as a fan. It's down to personal preference and what you need in your team.

I'd also rather have a bloke like Glenn Stewart at my club than have a wanker like Willie Mason, even though the latter is easily a better player.

And as a sidenote - just because Feleti is older and it took him a few extra years to develop doesn't mean he's any less of a talent than SBW.

Though like I said - as much as I like Feleti and am ecstatic to have him at Parramatta, SBW, at this stage, is a better player. But given a few years' time, who knows?
