Reynolds has a bit of pace on him. Has very good vision and a good step. Would definitely like to see him on with 10-15 to go in each half. Easily one of the best running games in the comp and he has the attitude and passion to do well at this level. Every week he puts in 110% and lifts players around him, I would love to see him get a run and I think over the last 18 months he has deserved this tbh. Even when we sucked to start this season he was the stand out

there you go.

Daley wanted all of Gallen, Merrin & Watmough in the squad. They all ply their trade as the small forwards in the middle third at their respective clubs.

Further to this though, Daley desperately wanted Hoffman in the side. He almost exclusively plays on the left edge at Melbourne and this is where he has to be used for NSW on Wednesday week. In order to fit him in, Loz had to shift Bird, who is the left forward incumbent, into the middle too so NSW end up having 4 midgets rotating through the middle. This means there are only two real props who can fit into the squad to complete the 6 man middle third rotation in his team.

Gidley was never going to be replaced by another prop. There is no room for one in the team Daley has picked. It would've severely f**ked with the balance of the squad, and what Daley intends to do.

I reckon he could've selected a right edge forward today such as Hinchcliffe or T Sims. The former has the advantage of being able to cover Acting Half which he has done admirably for the best in the world at Melbourne. Selecting Sims would've probably meant starting him and shifting Lewis onto the bench using him as the utility if required, but also rotating Sims on the right edge where he has been picked to start anyway.

I don't understand the selection of Sutton. He is a left-side player for Souths, and Daley already has a heap of left sided players in his squad.

They need to pick someone who can cover Hooker and the Halves, not "another big bloke" like genius captain Gallen said.

"I think they should pick a big bloke. I just don't think there's another player in the game that can do what Kurt Gidley can do. I don't think there's any point in picking a McCrone or someone like that."

I liked it better when players left the selecting of the side to the....selectors. Pretty crap when the captain is saying who shouldn't be picked. Terrible captaincy.

If NSW get an injury at 6, 7 or 9 they're pretty much rooted. Lewis might be able to do a job at 5/8 but not hooker.

Brandy's thinking straight. He felt McCrone should have been picked ahead of Gidley to begin with:

"I know McCrone's a bit of a left-field selection but he can play dummy half and you need someone who can cover dummy half," Alexander told foxsports.com.au.
"It was a toss-up between McCrone, Gidley and Josh Reynolds but I'm not sure Reynolds could play dummy half and that's where cover is most required.

"I like McCrone, he's done it for Canberra in the past and he's a good player. He's a good ball player, good ball runner - probably hasn't got the experience of Kurt Gidley but I'd be willing to give him a crack."

If NSW go with 4 forwards on the bench they better pray that there's no injuries in the halves or hooker or it's QLD 1-0 straight away.

Has to be Reynolds picked out of the two. No sense in picking Sutton. If you want a utility type player pick J Reynolds. If not pick a proper forward instead

and what is it that Kurt Gidley does so well??

Gidley, McCrone, Hinchcliffe, J Reynolds, Buhrer are all average players. Sutton isn't great but at least has some size and x factor about him.

I remember the days when Scott Hill and Craig Wing came off the bench and carved QLD up. One of them would be handy.

Exactly. Out of those average players you can just imagine them fading out of the game from nerves. Sutton is the only one who would handle it IMO.

Carney should be the 6
A Reynolds should be the 7

The pack and bench should have been

8. Fifita
9. Farah
10. Grant
11. Bird
12. Watmough
13. Gallen

14. Mannah
15. Tamou
16. Lewis
17. Reynolds/Sutton

Good luck with what NSW has picked but it doesn't make any sense to me.

Apparently Sutton was initially picked, but the concussion he suffered on Monday brought Reynolds into the equation.

17 Sutton
18 J.Reynolds.

Let me get this straight. We pick a guy who despite having made a dozen Origin appearances has rarely performed, a guy who has had injury problems for the past 12 months, a guy who this season hasn't set the world on fire, over a former Dally M winner? Then, when said mediocrity pulls out due to injury, we pick a guy with a long record of concentration lapses over a former Dally M winner? LOL! I love my state.

Its not the state --- its that absolutely infuriating moron non-pareil Daley & his pitiful record of analysing the game.

Bad enough we have someone who is complete & utter filth as a human being coaching NSW --- he has to be clueless to boot!

Wouldn't mind seeing Josh Reynolds on the bench for NSW. John Sutton doesn't make sense, we already have Greg Bird and Luke Lewis who offer the same utility value that he does, only are better in those positions. His addition to the team offers nothing unless both of them are injured... although he would still be a step up from Gidley.

Josh Reynolds has mongrel about him, has played hooker and halves for the Doggies and I think he is the sort of bloke who would really step up in Origin. Although we should have picked Tim Grant and pushed Paul Gallen back to lock, and Luke Lewis to the bench as the utility.

Absolutely right on that last sentence & it frankly stuns me that Daley is blind to it.

I'm not really sure why I'm stunned...Daley has proven a hundred times over at this point he hasn't even the faintest idea what the f**k he's doing.

I must be the only one who thinks Josh Reynolds is one of the most overrated players in the comp.

Little creativity, no kicking game and can't tackle. Pulling off a big hit every now and then and appearing to be aggressive masks his poor defense. He will get trampled in Origin.

Yep not picking Carney is a joke. If we dont win this year is that the end of Maloneys origin career? Since thats how NSW does halves not named Pearce.

Same with Grant, you cant fault them for picking Fifita, Tamou or Merrin but f**k he is hard done by. The first hit up from last season alone should of got him picked, QLD never would of dropped him.

Like Tallis and Hindy said on Monday, we have been doing this dumb shit for 7 years.

Morris instead of Wolfman
Tamou instead of King
Farah instead of Ennis
Hayne instead of The Dugan

What chance does NSW have with the numpties selecting those duds?
