Forget about the world cup, after 24 years I'd take a Parra premiership over World Peace.

i hate soccer, IMO its the most boring ball sport in the world, how its gained such a following is beyond me, interesting that the 2 big new countrys (America/Australia) dont follow it.

id prefer my team to win on the weekend TBH.

Not taking the piss here but how do you define 'follow it?'

Regardless of anyone who says they hate 'soccer' the fact remains its enjoyed by billions of people, hundreds of millions of those have never heard of Rugby League. It is universal and easy to play. You don't need a special ball and field to play, as many poor African kids demonstrate playing on dirt streets of their townships. Rugby League will never get close to its popularity unfortunately because its not universal enough. Rugby Union has tried but failed to match 'soccer'.

I love both league and 'soccer'/football, I would love to see the Socceroos win a World Cup but that won't be happening anytime soon. No team from outside Europe or South America has won the World Cup and its hard to see that changing this year. If the Socceroos make it out of a very tough group this time then that would be a great achievement.

Penrith has more chance of winning the comp than Socceroos do of winning the World Cup this year. More chance easily, and Penrith are given little chance.

You're an AFL fan, how can you say that about futball, when in reality, AFL is pretty much based a lot on it...
Additionally, one wonders how AFL gained such a following.

Also, I'd hardly call Australia big.
America and Australia can't get into soccer because it's not a high scoring game and the contact is minimal, and yes to an extent I can understand....screaming your lungs out for your team to then draw 0-0 is hardly inspiring.

However, a WC win would do better for Australian sport as a whole, and I think in the long run it'd be beneficial to League.
The Cows winning a premiership is tempting, but that can happen every year.

some AFL fans wonder why league gained such a following, and im not 100%, but arnt league and Aussie rules older than soccer?, if so, soccers based on Aussie rules not the other way around, but, i dont see any resemblence to soccer in AFL, they're chalk and cheese, i just dont like soccer.

No.....where did you get that from?

LOL:lol: Oh man you're obviously trolling, because surely someone wouldn't be this stupid.

Err right, ok so perhaps you should look up the positions, combinations, aerobic capacities, injuries and have a think why they're so similar.

LOL Soccer copying AFL...I think that might be quoteworthy!

The way we played against the US last night we'll be lucky to get out of the group stage...

World Cup would be the biggest sporting achievement ever. Simple as that.

this is an insanely tough question for me. Football is easily my favourite sport and have grown up absolutely fanatical about it and I love the Socceroos. But I'm also batsh*t insane over the Broncos. This is just too tough for me.

So...an English sport that doesn't even know or care about Aussie Rules is based on it just because it's older? My God...

on a big scale, there isnt many countrys that soccer isnt the no1 sport in, it isnt in the top 3 for AUS and posibly not in the top 5 for the US.

Spain, Argentina, Brazil, England, France, Greece, Germany, Cameroon, Nigeria, Italy, Holland, Colombia, Paraguay...need I go on?

As for the actual question...

A Roosters premiership...
An Australian World Cup victory...

Both would piss an insane amount of people off.

Socceroos to win the World Cup.

I love the Raiders just as much as I love the Socceroos, but winning the World Cup would be the greatest sporting achievement in Australian history and would send the country berserk.

Im the opposite, I would love the Aussies to win the WC and agree it would be one of the countires biggest ever sporting achievements

but If I could only get one wish then it would be the Raiders to win the Premiership.

That's not even true either. The first published rules of soccer may have been drawn as late as 1848 but that doesn't mean the game started then. There would have been plenty of rules drawn up previously just never published or shared across the country. The first Aussie rules games were just a version of one or two of the English public schools games from the time anyway, probably most closely remebling Sheffield Rules.
