IMO the festival was pretty shit until 2011. As I said before the attendance only needs to be about 13k to be par with any other Soundwave and it will well and truly achieve that. Just because there are bands playing that you don't like doesn't mean that the bands that are playing aren't popular.

Hang on, you got me confused here.

Are you saying Brisbane only gets 13k normally

Or

by SW signing lesser name bands and overall less in quantity to normal, they only need 13k to be on par with other years here?

Brisbane usually gets 25-30k. Over the last 5 years Soundwave has been running with 10-12 stages and 70 odd bands. This year they will be running 5-6 stages I think for 35-40 bands. For Brisbane they essentially will be using half the Showgrounds. So in order to be on par for previous years they would need to achieve roughly half the attendance of previous years, perhaps a bit more as things like insurance costs wouldn't change too much. In my opinion, the line up that has been announced will achieve what I believe to be par on previous years.

There is quality there, whether you like it or not. BFMV always pack out the main stage, bring me the horizon always fill out stage 3 (the stage way down the back in Brisbane) the crowd is literally from the stage to the food stalls. Killswitch played on the same stage that year and were about 3/4 the size of what BMTH got but it was still massive. Deftones are pretty untested in recent years but pull big overseas. Everything will be sweet.

Soundwave should just sign a couple of pub bands next year, that way they only need 20 people to rock up to make par.

What a load of shit.

obviously with half the amount of bands and half the stages you wouldn't expect to get as many people. I am not sure why you think it's a load of shit. It's just logic.

Getting this 10-12k figure you plucked out from somewhere, imagine the loss in booze/food sales of 10-15k over the normal crowd level????I don't the exact breakdown on who gets what $$$ but I cant imagine a crowd of that smaller level would be considered a success with the amount of coin lost in just those 2 areas alone (merch is another area of lost $$$). I get that less stages and less bands = less cash required to run the event but don't underestimate the money generated in booze at $10 a mid strength beer.

The biggest problem is IMO that he has always crammed too many bands on the bill each year. So many clashes of bands of similar genres that lend themselves to a similar crowd/fan. The other side effect of this is that there are only so many bands out there that are appropriate for this festival, instead of having 70 odd bands on a day, drop it down to say 30-40 so that they get longer set times and these bands aren't out here doing SW every 2nd-3rd year because he is running out of bands from the previous year.

Have a look at 2011 ffs, utterly ridiculous the amount of bands for a one day festival.

The food and beverage stalls would all be private businesses I'd imagine.

I think 2011 was too big but next year too small. We are looking at about 40 bands next year, I'd say 50-55 would be the sweet spot. I don't care if similar bands come out here every 2-3 years, every other festival run the same cycles.

The issue this year is that there are a few metal sub genres that have missed out creating outrage from those fans.

All of the metal sub genres have missed out. The trendy alternative-fusion-bitch metal genres are there in numbers though.

Are you AJ Maddah or something?
You're about the only one who is pleased with this Shitfest.
If you added a poll you would see more people agree that it is an average line-up in comparison to every year past.
With fewer bands there should be quality.
Frenzal Rhomb, Dead Letter Circus, Northlane - These merkins play at my local every 6 months
Who the f**k are Mooseblood and Nothing but Thieves?
L7 had a hit album 2 decades ago? who gives a f**k
Terror Univeral were here LAST YEAR
B4MV - Here EVERY second year

Yep you're AJ

Ill Nino aren't even a real band....... Well not in my books at least. Dave Chavarri is a decent enough drummer, the rest are f**king woeful. Ahrue Luster ruined Machinehead during his tenure there.

Oh and CH BF4MV don't always pack out the main stage. I watched them from the stands a few years ago in Brissy and the main stage was far from being remotley full. Was hilarious watching them trying to woo the crowd with their new trash and about 1/3 of the crowd were gone by the 2nd song. They had to go back to their early shit (which was actually pretty good back in the day)very quickly to keep the crowd interested and around. They are well past their used by date.

It's not even about the quality of the bands here. I'm sure Il Nino have a heap of fans for some reason, whatever.

The point is that 2011-2014 SW massively grew in popularity, at least in part due to fans of true metal. Now AJ has abandoned those fans in favour of trend hopping alternative-nu-core bands. Even if some of them are outstanding for fans of those genres, it doesn't change the fact that heavy metal, thrash metal, power metal, death metal, black metal fans have been totally shafted and are understandably pissed.

AJ thinks the bands he's picked will pull a crowd, I'm hoping it bombs and bombs hard.

I'll be going solely for Deftones. So wish they'd do a sideshow at the Tivoli or something though.

I'm expecting less people to go because the lineup is garbage.

Lowering the quality and quantity of the lineup and then calling it a success when less people go is the logic of a genius.
