Rusty: For the way you drove the club I love into the ground, I love you George Piggins.
George: For the way you shafted me and other legends, I love you Russell Crowe.

Hmm....wonder if there would be any flying phones in that conversation?

It did give a nice insight to the Rise and Fall of piggins as the Souths Headman. From ressurecting them to being opposed to taking the club in the right direction.

What i liked was it wasn't biased towards any side. There was the guy saying "They sold 90 years of history" and the other guy saying "They sold the sh*t fight"
or something along those lines.

Yeah I thought it'd be one-sided, but it was quite fair to both sides.

I loved how they ended with a quote from George, saying that he still believes it was wrong to privatise, and that time will tell in the end. I thought that was a really cool way to finish it, suggesting that the Souths story ain't over by a long shot.

Even if you think he held on too long, you gotta admire Piggins.

I thought it was quite good and I look forward to the next 5 Episodes.

I did record it as well so I might be able to put a DVD together for Fishy and Belly.

To be honest I can't agree more with you suity on this issue. Souths were being run by Dinosaurs. It seems to me, that their attitude is that the "People" Owned souths and those people wouldn't stand for players not being "Working Class". The problem is they still do. It is such a sad state of affairs.

As Tyler said, no George, No Souths. But I honestly think George Loved Souths to Death, Loved them Back to Life and was Ready to Love them back to Death.

I thought it was surprisingly well balanced and fitting that George got the last say even though he declined to an official interview for the series.

"Dean Widders, I love you, mate, because I feel when I shake your hand I somehow am touched by your heart. I feel that just as you make an effect on the football field, you will have an effect on the community over the long term. I feel that greatly and deeply and that's why I love you. Why don't you stand up, pick someone and tell them why you love them?"

I bet they had to turn the cameras off just after that. Bunny hardons a plenty. :sarcasm:

Great doco, loved every minute of it, the ABC's editorial policy was clearly shown with a balanced story from both sides.

Watched it with my girlfirend who is la recent league fan (well part time) and now souths fan who now knows why the club was in the gutter for so long. Crowe was 100% correct that its time for the 71 brigade to move on and let the new generation taste success.

Can't wait for next week.

But I trust you'll charge Belly the appropriate postage and handling fee? ;-)

Like I would charge him a Buck for this. (which is about all it costs).

I watched it last night and thought it was very interesting, They didn't want Rusty to run the place but they wanted 100 grand of him to pay the players. That pretty much says how badly they we're going, i think him and PHAC have done a great job so far.

Interesting doco, fair and balanced, but that members vote is still on the nose with me...

Rusty making the grand entrance, last to speak, and the pseudo Anthony Robbins motivational chanting...smoke and mirrors...

I notice that he didn't make much noise in 2000 either, chucking a couple of grand into an auction isn't exactly loyalty when you're cashed up to the hilt...couldn't find Town Hall RC...

Rusty and HaC want to get rid of the 71 mob, because they represent the real tradition of Souths, and quite obviously the aforementioned do not..."working class battlers" indead, I'm sure Rusty won't be feeling the pinch with the interest rate hike, sat in one of his many activity rooms at the Finger Wharf...

It will take more than a job lot of Armani whistles and a propoganda campaign around the billboards of Alexandria for this to have a happy ending...

and as for the 'yes' voters, you've got to ask yourself, would you sell out your club's tradition for a bit of success...its about following the club, highs and lows, ups and downs, the journey is what it is all about...

I realise that there were a lot of lows at Souths, unprofessional management et al, but, what's happened to the place, because the revolution certainly hasn't arrived...

however, celebrity supporters have...I still can't get over seeing mr & mrs little Leighton all kitted up in the exclusive Souths range a fortnight ago, apparently because he stated "he didn't have an NRL club", so Rusty sorted him out...and welcomed another "working class battler" into the fold...

and people wonder why George Piggins has turned his back on it...

I've only scratched the surface here, but I think the honour for greatest quote of the piece has to go to Larry Agius..."this isn't the people's club, it's two people's club."
