Soward charged but cleared to play
In-form St George Illawarra five-eighth Jamie Soward is free to play against Penrith on Friday night despite being charged with kicking by the NRL match review committee.
Soward received a grade-one dangerous contact infringement for lashing out with his foot in attempt to stop Melbourne centre Greg Inglis from scoring a try on Friday night.
The charge carries a 100-point penalty, though that would be reduced to 75 points with an early guilty plea.
The NRL's leading pointscorer this season, Soward has been instrumental in propelling the Dragons to the top of the ladder, with the red and whites eyeing their first minor premiership since becoming a joint venture.
Soward was one of three players charged, though all can escape sanction with early pleas.
Brisbane prop Dave Taylor was charged with a grade-one dangerous throw and South Sydney halfback Chris Sandow with grade-one tripping.
Broncos centre Justin Hodges was not charged despite claims he abused referee Jason Robinson in Saturday night's record-breaking loss to Canberra.
