King has had a spate of injuries and Rein stepped up last year. I think you need to get your facts straight.
So whose your preference for coach? Enlighten us.

Hence "most" of last season. Rein was probably the best last year. Fein, while being a handy hooker, comng off the bench in front of King was the kind of sick joke only super coach:shock: could pull on Dragons fans. I would be in favor of a caretaker coach (Brian Smith comes to mind but there are many other possibilities) for the remainder of this year. Why not? Does anyone believe super coach  is working out for the Dragons???

Anyway, I'm just stating my opinion. Feel free to ignore it if you like but no need to take umbrage.

I'm with you Fiery. But you know that already because I've been on about replacing Price since mid last year. Nothing that has happened since then has caused me to change my opinion.

For Price supporters; just imagine how well our team could perform with a good coach! I'm sure we would be in the top eight right now.

Some observations:
Morris and Nightingale rarely get the ball with a clear run to the line these days. They are among the best wingers in the NRL.

Our centres very rarely breach the defencive line and usually pass the ball to our wingers with no room to move and no hope of gaining significan metres. The majority of times our wings only look good on kick returns or dummy half runs from deep in our 20.

Our halves, well they are just pathetic. Never really have shown much during the time Price has been coach.

I believe we have a good bunch of forwards. With the addition of two hard nosed props we could dominate most teams in the NRL. Our young hookers are starting show a lot of promise.

So, in my opinion it's not really the roster, - yes some changes need to be made - it's the way the players are being coached to play each week.

How could anyone ignore?

Always worth reading for laughs.

Again, no halves of consequence, no effective centres, no bulk up front.
Recruit in these positions, then reassess.
On the subject of the thread, it's getting there.

Yes we need Bennett back asap. Look what he's done with Newcastle. That's what we need!

I thought we had Robles, but in Knightsland Forumn, they basically one step away from storming the coaches box and dumping Bennent for being old, out of date tactics, poor player recruitment, lists goes on, my god, that's the supercoach!

Well tbh at the Dragons his coaching was dinosaur like, his selections we boring (Prior/Scott at Centre for example), our attack was terrible (unentertaining except for that we won games).. and we struggled to score enough points to win games (if it didnt go to plan), and rarely did we put teams away.

But Wayne's man management skills and ability to pick average players to lift & do a job for him.. its legendary and id take him any day of the week, and I dont write Newcastle off at all longer term and injuries willing.

But Wayne is definitely a different generation of coach, the younger guys like Bellamy or Hasler are far more tactically minded, as much as we hate the wrestling tactics etc, the Storm are always leading with the most current style of football that everybody else tries to emulate, its a smart coach behind that team, always reinventing their gameplan, I love that Innovation.. always riding the wave of change.

Souths/Rorters coaches I dont want to comment on because I feel like they were blessed with dumb amounts of talent, but they do look promising and sound intelligent/tactical in interviews (unlike our ol'boy pricey).

Brian Smith lol.

You think he would be worse than super coach:shock: for the remainder of the season? Ivan Henjak, Rick Stone and Steve Gorgarlis are 3 more. I posed the question if anyone really believes super coach:shock: Price is working out for the Dragons and no one replied "yes" so why not get Brian Smith in as a caretaker for the remainder of the season while they search for a long term solution?

Agreed...you don't get a player too often who you have to sell allot of good players to keep who then abandons your team...twice!!!

Geee, i will always remember Gasnier as the Superstar centre faithful who came back because he wanted to play with his beloved Dragons...

...and for that length of the field try against in the first semi-final against Manly at Kogarah in 2010.

a brilliant Player, and a great ambassador of our game. Always.

Comon, It's not like Bennett, Hasler and Bellamy haven't been blessed with a dumb amount of talent. Look at the Broncos players Bennett had, look at the big 3 Bellamy has, look at the Manly team Hasler had, and the talent he has in the doggies side. You need good players to win, no matter how good of a coach you are. As a collective, I reckon the dragons were juuuuust good enough to win in 2010. And you know why we were boring? I reckon mainly because Bennett adapted to Soward's uninvolved style of avoiding the line, and based the game plan around protecting him. If Soward had incorporated taking on the line, which also opens up more fruitful and flashy ball playing oppurtunities, we would have been a better attacking team. We had the backline talent to take advantage of those situations. But we all know that didn't happen, not like we care now anyway.

A coach like Stephen Kearney would still have a team like Souths lingering near the bottom of the top 8. The top coaches have the man management and tactical skills to go that extra length. I think we should all just assume that Trent Robinson and Maquire are great coaches. They both seem to be commanding a lot more respect from their players than Price is, which is actually harder with a team full of skillful but equally egotistical players like Jennings and Inglis.

Rev, if we on the Forum here were permitted to vote in our recruitment Manager for player and coach, you'd get my vote ten times.

I think you are spot on with your assessment of Wayne Bennett. His greatest strengths are now becoming his weaknesses, such for the game having "moved on" because of other more masterful tacticians. I do think however Wayne Bennett's development of Player attitude is second to None.

Sadly, while I really hope he pulls it off, I still don't see anything encouraging in Steve Price's ability to manage developing footballer's skills and attitudes, nor in his ability as a game tactician for the team.

He compliments their effort alot - and that's about all.

Definitely a lot of wins are due to the quality of player.. but the biggest thing I notice that makes for champion clubs is the management of those lesser named players.

Blokes like Vidot, Chase, Kyle, Green, at different times these last 2 years these guys have not lifted to the standard we needed, it costs us games, in other words we are only as good as our weakest link (especially in defence).

Thats what I notice under Bellamy bigtime, all the 'unknown joes' rock up and look like they are ready to rock first grade, like they are some undiscovered talent, and they get the job Bellamy wants done.. its these lesser guys that are the key, because tbh the Storm line-up some years is dominated by Slater/Cronk/Smith & previously GI, but the rest of the team, especially the forwards seem to come out of nowhere and Bellamy regenerates the young talent each year and compete with the bigger named forward packs etc.

To be promised $xxxx and then to not get it must have been infuriating. He had to leave on principle but refused to play against the Dragons.
