*SPOILER* That kick-off...

Looked alright to me. Floated over the 40 then drifted back before landing. It doesn't have to bounce over the line, it's enough that it crosses over it.

Skeepe is right.

Just watched the video on Fox > downloaded it and played it in VLC player and pulled the play bar back and forward and I feel confident in saying this is correct.

Forgetting the argument as to whether it went 10 or not I only have one question.
How does a ball thats kicked off with the wind, "float back" against the wind??

That camera angle shows nothing.

The issue is, the refs seem to have said the ball went 10m, then blew backwards.
Wow.

Badger is heard in the audio saying "didn't go 10".

There were 4 calls in the last 2 minutes that were 50/50 at best.
EVERY one of them went against the Sharks.

I can't remember the last time a 50/50 call has given the Sharks a win.
Plenty of times the 50/50 has denied them the win.

The sharks scored 2 tries directly from disgraceful referring decisions last night and had gotten all of the 50/50 calls during the game. Sharks last try came from Jeremy Smith kicking the ball out of Josh Mansour's hands at the play the ball.

One of your first tries came from Andrew Fifita dropping the ball cold and it being ruled a strip. Fifita was also constantly crawling off the mark he did it in golden point where he crawled about 2 metres forwards to give you momentum to get up the other end of the field.

Penrith were getting hosed by the officials all night.

As for the kickoff there is really nothing in it we are talking cm or mm in it and it was a line ball decision which i believe was right i think the ball floated over the ten then went out at the line.

But it isn't a bad call either way it was a line ball decision if i was a fan of the Sharks i would be more pissed off that my team couldn't hold a team out for the last 50 seconds of the game.

Rubbish, rubbish and more rubbish. How was a blatant off side from a charge down that led to a pennies try a 50/50 in favor of the Sharks. FFS we were shit and the Pennies were poo. Poo is more acceptable to shit, so they deserve their win.

Stop the farkin sooking everyone. FFS

I was just referring to the rule that the ball only has to break the 10m plane in flight, i didnt see any of last nights game so I don't know this perticular incident very well or which way the wind was blowing last night at shire park.

IMO the ball landed on the line after going over the line from the kick off and floating backwards... even with the wind behind it if you watch it in slow motion it certainly looks like it floated backwards due to the spin on the ball.

Here's 3 consecutive frames from the video on nrl.com... One the frame before it hits the ground, one as it hits the ground and one as it bounces. Unfortunately the ball moves a considerable amount between each frame, but it certainly looks as though it touched the line with part of the ball atleast:

Frame 1 - Ball looks like it's directly above the line, but the angle makes it hard to know for certain obviously

Frame 2: Ball is on the ground or just about to hit... but it looks like the ball is either touching the line or will touch it upon landing. Only just... but it's certainly not as blatantly wrong as some people would like to think

Frame 3: Ball bouncing into touch... basically along the 40m line and slightly forward

Having watched it several times, the ball definitely looks as though it is floating slightly backwards just before it hits the ground... and when you look at it in slow motion or at the still frames it looks as though it also touches the 40m line just as it lands.

It looked like a big call when it happened, but IMO there's no doubt that they got it right. It's not even a 50/50 call that went the Panthers way, but a very difficult call actually being called directly for a change.

That's not to say the Panthers didn't get a couple of decisions in their favor... but they certainly had more go against them then for them.

Have another look, but this time don't watch the ball, watch the players. Then tell me the ref got it right? Anyway, why bother with any of it. All sides get shit calls and sometimes get good ones. It is what it is.

How is it rubbish two of your tries were assisted by refereeing mistakes. The only gripes Cronulla can have is with the offside from the charge down. Even then if the referee had penalised Fafita for crawling 3 metres off the mark in the first place you would never have got up the other end of the field to have your kick charged down.

Who has any gripes? It's just all rubbish bullshit arguing over nothing. The result was right. Pennies are poo and we were shit. Everyone has n opinion but that doesn't change anything so why carry on about what one person thinks the pink merkins got wrong and another says they didn't. I just get sick of some people making up bullshit. The pink merkins made calls as they saw it. Do they need eye surgery at times? Yep no doubt, but no forum bitching is gonna change anything.

The touchie made the correct call. The ball traveled 10 metres from the kick off, landed in the field of play (from the screen caps it basically landed directly on the 40m line) and then bounced out.

Sharks players argued that it didn't go the distance, Panthers players argued it did. Touchie agreed and Panthers got the scrum. It is pointless to argue over it now, but honestly the screen captures and viewing it in slow motion show that the decision was correct, or at the very least more likely the correct decision then if it went the other way.

Sharks should have received a penalty from Coote being off-side from the charge down, and would have more then likely gotten it if Coote scored (if it went to the video referee). But the Panthers should have been awarded a penalty a few moments earlier when Fifita basically crawled/walked off the mark by about 5 metres from about 24 metres out to just shy of the 30m line. That would have basically guaranteed Panthers victory... but it wasn't blown. As the referees don't like to make big decisions in golden point.

Both teams were pretty shit on the night. Some shocking calls were made and IMO this wasn't one of them. I can understand it looking like the wrong call at first... I thought it came up short when seeing it live. But after re-watching it I have no doubt it was correct. Especially when you can pause it and see it touching the line as it lands. If it was a try being scored and the camera showed the ball on the line like that, it would be given the green light. Even if they were soft and just went BOTD.

Like I said it doesn't matter, but pennies player was offside at that kick off. Ran out before the kick. But anyway, we can all agree on one thing. The refs are shit this year.

I'm not sure what the rule is on the offside from kick offs, but the Panthers player had a foot on the ground behind the halfway line at the same time the ball had just been kicked.

So it depends on what the rule is... if the entire players body (or both legs rather) has to be behind the kicker he was offside. If having a foot behind him as the ball is kicked is enough, he's on side. Although I'd bet that most kick offs have a player (or several) doing the same thing or worse. Unless they're offside by a fair amount or the referee decides to be inconsistent, they're never called though.
