If a player is suspended in the NRL are they also suspended from playing ESL?

I doubt it. Suspensions don't normally go cross-competitions especially one that's on the other side of the planet.

I hadn't seen Thunderstrucks reply until after I posted. I'm not 100% of how it all works, but I think this is why players have to get a clearance from any Rugby League team they play in before they can join another team. This applies in all forms of RL whether it be NRL, juniors, CRL and even international as far as I know.

Williams clearance will indicate his suspension, and I believe he will not be able to play for any RL club until the suspension is served

I've calmed down after a few beers, but still feel sick towards this act and the GBH that he has caused towards Mark O'Neill. This is a sad day to be a Storm supporter.

Hopefully, O'Neill will take legal action against this piece of excrement and he will never be allowed to play a professional sport ever again.

*edit*

The merkin doesnt even remotely resemble a human being.

If the NRL dont throw the book at this bloke it will be a complete joke. This is up with the Bob Cooper incident back in the wild days. This incident is a bad image for the whole game.

A year ban is a minimum. If he retires then I hope he retires to hell.

GO f**k yourself you piece of crap. Your not even half the player Buckets is.

O'Neill will get his 2 or 3 weeks through injury. That guy is a disgrace to the game and should be f**ked off from league straight away

If I ever see him in the street, I'd spit in the turds face. I'm sure most of you would do the same.

The merkin doesnt even remotely resemble a human being.

It's improbable I'd have turds in my mouth to spit Hybrid but whatever does it for ya.....

I agree with your sentiment though, Williams is a nasty thug. No reason such a low act shouldn't count as a form of assault that could be prosecuted outside the bounds of the NRL

It will be interesting how the League grade's O'Neills tackle.
I heard the ref say something to Williams along the lines of "let me deal with it,Dont take matters into your own hands."
Bottom line IF the officials had dealt with the high shot when it happened Williams wouldn't have had the opportunity to do what he did.
What if Williams had a broken jaw/cheekbone etc from the tackle?
Proper action could have avoided this.
As for Williams there is no doubt that was his last NRL game.

I was at the game and saw the incident. As a tigers fan, but one who is not overly biased, I'd like to call it how I saw it.

O'Neill came in to help in a tackle and hit Williams high. This tackle alone should have given Melbourne a penalty and O'Neill on report, nothing more. It didn't happen.

Williams got up to play the ball, with O'Neill as the second marker. As the Melbourne dummy half scooped up the ball and began to attack the tigers line, O'Neill had turned to follow play and get back in the defensive line when Williams casually strolled up and hit O'Neill square in the head while O'Neill wasn't looking.

What hurts me most about this incident is the fact that it was O'Neill's 100th game for the Joint venture, and it was at his home ground, where he played the majority of his first grade career at. The club had organised a celebration for him after the game, but that had to be put on hold until a later date. O'Neill was wearing an oxygen mask for some time I believe, but was in an improved state after showering and resting.

Williams' act is of a similar level to one earlier this season by Francis Meli, against Souths (I think). However, the maliciousness of Williams' attack is far more severe than that of Meli's.

The hit was sickening, the sight of seeing a local legend lying on the ground convulsing whilst sub conscious is an image I may never forget. Williams deserves nothing less than a years suspension and a hefy fine.

O'Neill too should be suspended for his high shot, but I dare say that will be served whilst he is injured.

I believe that the referee handled the situation dilligently and for a new referee, I think he controlled the game well.

I hope I do not live to see another incident as ugly as that ever.

O'Neill tackled Williams high and also head slammed him in the same motion and the ref and linesman missed both incidents. If one of them did their job properly O'neill would have been put on report and Williams wouldn't have had the opportunity to retaliate.

BTW, I am no way excusing Williams for that bastard act. The prick should be gone for a minimum of 12 weeks.

true.

I'm not saying O'Neill's tackle was legal. I even commented that it was high and Melbourne deserved a penalty, as well as O'Neill being reported.

O'Neill was still reported, be it after the incident from Williams or not, he was still reported.

But as you said, nothing can compare to the incident by Williams.

Its pretty hard for me to say but if Badger blows a penalty then none of this happens. But hindsight is a wonderful thing. And IMO the referee was poor. He was completely biased in favour of the Tigers :)

from www.foxsports.com.au

After the match, a contrite Williams said he had no recollection of the incident.

"He (O'Neill) hit me and I don't really remember anything after that," Williams said.

"The boys tell me that I hit him and I am sorry for that but I was dazed and didn't know what I was doing."

WHAT A FARGWIT!!
You can't use that as an excuse.
