I don't understand why Brooks doesn't just find a new club. He was Dally M Half back of the year under Cleary, so there must be a certain style of coach he can play under... But clearly Madge isn't it.

What is Reynolds and Packer long term plan here as well? They are coming to the back end of their careers but surely they have another 3 or 4 years in them. If they stay here they will effectively end their careers.

My worry is that the club will have to get savage in order to clean out the roster and it will reinenforce the sentiment that Tigers are not a good club to sign with

We need to get pretty savage I’m afraid.

As a group, they’ve played more busted than otherwise. Saints have the same problem but with much better players.

The trick is to design a squad, sign or get a promise to sign before you go about releasing players.

2022 is looking a whole lot cleaner for us in terms of space and cap. So next year we should see a lot of recruitment activity. It’s going to be fun.

So it’s really not just a matter of a fire sale as you have to plan.

But here’s my list of transferable players if the price is right. Not giving them away but:-

Walters
Smith
Madden
Reynolds
Mbye
Hoffman
Jennings
Twal
McQueen
Taylor
Simpkin
Bradley
Garner ( May change my mind by morning, he’s not too bad).
MCK
Clark

The benj and Rowdy don’t count.

It might have been easier to do a keep list. Twal is gone because I need cash, not because he is a bad player. Mbye can stay on but on half pay. Otherwise he’s in the market.

Players I think have done enough to offer something. Maybe not what they are on unless denoted but:

Nofo (salary increase)
Tommy- reduction
Brooks- same
Mikale- same to upgrade
Eiso- same to upgrade
Macintyre same
Packer reduction
Alo- same
Bj and Lucy. Lucy gets an upgrade.

I’m not holding on tight to this, just my thoughts at the moment on the couch bludging away thinking about work tomorrow. @stryker says I flip too much. Fine, I don’t care.

Being realistic, madge and co are already looking at 22 and beyond. We already have a bunch of players we are targeting. They’ve probably forgotten more about footy than most of us will ever know.

I’m already outed as a Brooksonian. He’s a great player. Has the odd flat game, but he has flair. Almost none of our players have flair. He forgettable often but he has a small smidgeon of rare class.

Shout out to nofo for this year. Our concerns about him last year no longer trouble us. Hold your head up high nofo, I f**king salute you my son.

Ok so that talk is why Brooks is still in the team and why his contract was extended....Surely we should celebrate the media finally calling Brooks out..And if you ask yes but who instead.I say anyone

What value does calling out Brooks serve? We all know from experience with Packer, Reynolds and Mbye that you can only move on players that other clubs want. What chance does Brooks have to be picked up by another club when all the bullshit about going 145 games without playing finals football is floating around?

Besides that, what halfback is going to want to go to a club with a forward pack as soft as ours, with outside backs as slow as ours and no clue who his spine partners are going to be? This is assuming they sign for next year and are totally confortable walking into a club where the players are in revolt, where the coach might not be there for their second year, where you'll be thrown to wolves if you have an off year even if the most of the people around you are just as bad.

You put up a good argument for why we shouldn’t try to move Brookes on and replace him in the 30 All I’m asking is that he be scratched from the 17. He contributes nothing and whoever replaces him will be better

I noticed that Benji said last night that squads are being reduced to 28 for next year. Has that been confirmed anywhere and is that just for 2021 or is it a permanent reduction from 30 to 28?

If so, we only have 3 more spots to fill with 25 already on the books, not much scope to actually improve the squad

We are not going to be competitive until 2022 until then it’s a matter of going through the motions.

The club has done a lot for Benji, sorry about the way he found out, but it’s a signal of the ruthlessness we are adopting to climb out of the mess.

If any players aren’t putting in, I’m sorry but they can f**k off.

Madge isn’t going anywhere. He says “dance” you dance.

I thought it was confirmed the squad numbers were going to be 30. That might have been something that they said to Benji because it's not clear atm.

Mate we can’t sack everyone and by your metric we should as hardly any of them are putting in.

The players are going to have to take a hair cut. Based on this we are highly unlikely to be able to move an Mbye a Packer or a Reynolds because clubs are not going to want to take on highly paid cast offs. The only exception to this is if WT take another clubs cast offs.

The decision to punt Benji you'd think is linked to Reynolds digging his heels in. I'd say its highly likely that he is with us next year and I honestly do not think that is a bad thing. We've competed in every match he has played for the club. Im bewildered why Madge does not rate him.

So Madden plays this weekend with Benji before bringing in Reynolds for the rest of the season?

Makes sense. There's a case for re-signing Marshall for another year to play in the halves with Reynolds in the top grade to give Madden and Brooks a year together in NSW Cup out of the lime light. Brooks is on contract for a longer than any other spine player besides Doueihi and if we've learned anything, it's hard to shift players on big contracts when nobody wants them. Injuries to Marshall or Reynolds next year could be handled by shifting Mbye or Doueihi into the halves.

Brooks and Reynolds have contracts and will be our 2021 NRL halves unless anything drastic happens.

Brooks has been very poorly coached this year IMO. Whoever is telling him to put up bombs on every 5th tackle play needs to be moved on. If he has the shits about this I think its honestly fair enough.

Thanks for the article Mario. Fascinating and well argued. I agree with most of it.

But benjis done and dusted now. More to follow.

He didn't try him there though. If he could make a great fullback that would be awesome but I'm not sure if he has the ball playing ability fullbacks require. We really need though a player like JAC.
I don't follow the Storm to know if he's played there at some stage or not. But for Bellamy to say it, means something, imo.

Why would he need to?
Isn't Bellamy's opinion of a player's capabilities enough?
And on JAC
He has ball playing ability. ...but does Tedesco?....does it matter with him?

I think coaches can say something when it doesn't impact them. It's the same as Cleary or Bennet stating Benji can play on but they won't offer him a contract.

I'm not sold on JAC being a fullback but I'd like to see him kill it there for us.

The Turd can definitely ball play at fullback.

Why would bellemy speak ill of his own player?

He wouldn't want to kill his confidence right now. He still has a premiership at stake here.

Maguire said it was "disappointing" to see sensitive information leaked from the club and wished Marshall had not found out in such a way.

Another leak occurred following a club crisis meeting on Monday, at which players revealed they felt as if they were walking on eggshells around Maguire.

"It shows where we are this moment in time and what we need to move towards," Maguire said. "Top-end teams, that never gets out, does it?"
Interesting !!!
