Pou bear, you didn't change 2016 to Still Uncontracted beyond 2016.

I thought we all agreed that was the best way moving forward.

THE Parramatta Eels now have the longest premiership drought in the NRL – but club legend Peter Wynn is confident the record will not stand for long.

The dubious honour was bestowed on the Eels after Cronulla broke rugby league’s greatest drought by claiming the premiership on Sunday for the first time in their 50-year history.

It has now been 30 years since Parramatta won a premiership. In 1986, the Eels defeated their arch rivals Canterbury-Bankstown 4-2 in the only try-less grand final.

Wynn, who reunited with the 1986 premiership winning side last week, said 2017 could be the year of the Eel.

“If you looked at the way the team played, where we would have finished if (the NRL) had not taken the points off and the new signings, everything is looking pretty good,” Wynn said.

“I think the side will be better for what it went through this year.”

Parramatta would have made the finals this year if it did not lose 12 points for rorting the salary cap.

The celebrations in Cronulla following Sunday’s win reminded Wynn of Parramatta’s maiden premiership.

“In 1981, it was great seeing the exhilaration and excitement from Parramatta fans at the leagues club, Cumberland Oval and all through Parramatta,” Wynn said.

“Hopefully, Parramatta can revisit that next year. No words can describe what it’s like to win a grand final.”

Wynn and his 1986 premiership teammates celebrated the 30th anniversary of their grand final win by returning to the SCG last Wednesday.

The players posed in a team photo to replicate an image taken before the 1986 grand final. It brought back memories of the epic game.

“Mick Cronin kicked two goals for us and the Bulldogs had a penalty to level the scores, but Terry Lamb missed with 10 minutes to go,” Wynn said.

“I remember the Bulldogs were on the attack for the whole second half but we managed to hold them out. It was a pretty tough game.”

I wonder how many clubs have more than 15 players already contracted for 2018. Minus Radradra we have 14, and rumours suggest the club's official statement in 2014 on his re-signing until the end of 2018 might've been incorrect.

I understand the Raiders have their entire end of this season Top 17 signed up until at least the end of 2018. Panthers aren't far off either
