Harsh on who??

I think both of them we're guilty of ball watching so both of them are at fault... Your right that it was Williamson's call... But Williamson should still look up.

Doull and Cumming. The former esp is a bit dim but imbecile a bit strong.

Good score, getable though.

Would love to see Goodall umpiring again

There was easily two there and it was Williamson's call.

Yes he should have seen that Taylor was never coming, but that was schoolboy stuff from Taylor just dawdling the single and never turning around.

Typical McClenaghan wicket, not a great ball + really average shot
He has a very happy knack of picking up soft wickets

It's not arbitrary at all but for all the complexity it needs more variables. For mine it's ok gives an idea of what's par. Probably only useful every 5 or 10 overs though.

That was brilliant by Mills

That was really dumb, an arbitrary prediction system adds no value to anything

Funny thing is that it wasn't designed to be a prediction system, it was designed to give a rough indication of how the teams are traveling at that exact moment of the game so those who don't always follow cricket can have a general idea of who's on top at any given moment.

They then turned it into a prediction system and that was always going to end in lolz.

Cricket is too unpredictable, no system in the world would have picked the Elliott-Ronchi partnership for example. I haven't once been able to take it very seriously especially with chases, it zooms from 2% to 90% (and back) far too easily.

It's probably got a nifty algorithm but it seems more like a summer project for a software grad rather than a meaningful tool for TV viewers.

That reminds of those times where I get asked the classic question "Who's winning"

I have to try and explain that cricket doesn't really have a concept of 'winning' at a certain point in the game, and its only quite late in the piece you can start really writing a team off.

I hear you, I guess WASP tried to achieve that but failed.

Funny you say that... I saw a funny video about that just the other day....

Good win, and good to see Taylor back in form. He looked good I thought in the first match in Dunedin before holing out off a thick inside edge, but I knew he was on yesterday when he flashed through a beautiful cover drive early on. The only concerns I have is Mitchell McClenaghan, he is really loose and while he seems to have good physical attributes it really doesn't seem he has much of a clue of how to bowl the right lengths. He seems a bit thick TBH. I know its got him wickets because batsmen get very aggressive against his two length approach, but he could equally get wickets by being more patient and bowling the odd carrot ball. He gets small-ish seam movement, but enough to grab an edge, if he's more patient. The other one who is a concern is Guptill, his balance at the crease is very poor at the moment. I don't think the loading up approach of back and across works for him because it drags his head more to the offside and where I feel he's getting into a lot of trouble is he over-commits at times onto the front foot, his head falls over to the offside as a result, and he's in a very poor position to bring his bat down from a straight position if a ball jags back in. Guptill is at his best when he's focusing on going down the ground and compensating smallish front foot movements by maintaining his balance and having a high front elbow to control the blade through the stroke to maximise his timing.

After that DRS farce here's another horrible call, ball lands in Sangakkara's gloves off an edge and bounces (which is still out). Given not out somehow.

Guptill living a blessed life, looking as scratchy as ever

That one I can understand. Benefit of the doubt is supposed to go to the batsman, and, the front on shot certainly doesn't give you the 3d elements needed to absolutely confirm it was taken. In my view, part of the ball also scratched the grass as the front of the ball hit the gloves which is not out.

Oh yep, actually I agree somewhat in the sense that the introduction of DRS gave umpires an excuse to be lazy. I don't quite agree that it is the 'fault' of the DRS, both should co-exist properly and its more the fault of the umpires for slacking off.

 at Hair. If he had any strengths is that he was willing to make a call and back himself.

There were days when Hair and Steve Randall would work in tandem (shivers)

I think Steve is busy making number plates these days.

All the Wiiliamson Taylor talk about running is making me reminisce about Crowe and Jones.

Reminds me of the Waugh brothers. Early in their international career together they couldn't help but run one another out.

Yeah didn't Mark come in as a runner for someone else and run Steve out in the 90's?

Two guys scoring lots of runs and a difference somewhere physically, mentally etc and screw ups will happen not much to worry about imo
