Sharks on their own stadium
Panthers pay zero rent

so different circumstances
Well obviously when you are working out profit on sales of something you need to factor in both revenue and expenses. Sharks have to pay for ground maintenance and upgrades where as renting doesn't. Didnt someone post that sharks need to avg 13k a game just to break even? Point stands Broncos earn a lot of their revenue from game day, up to 3-4 times more than some other clubs, and even factoring high rent cost still make a decent profit due to high crowds. Fill your stadium and make lots of money. Sharks in same year Broncos earnt $16mill earnt just $3.5mill. Thats the difference big crowds and full suites can make!

There is only 3 main sources of revenue from football operations for clubs
1. NRL grant
2. Fanbased generated revenue (memberships, gate takings, merchandise sales)
3. Corporate sales (sponsorships, game day boxes)

First one is fixed so that only leaves two options for increasing your revenue!

No home ground in 2020 and made a profit - They still training at home ground. So still had costs now with the Leagues club open and fans at the game they should make more.

Broncos on the other hand stayed at home. Had limited restrictions on crowds and lost $470k

Panthers made a profit in 2019. Continue to grow that profit even more now

So it is working for the Sydney clubs to do this

Cronulla didnt make a profit in 2020 in reality. they made a $10mill surplus but that included $12mill in one off payment in lieu of ongoing revenue from commercial properties in the development, and it has to be spent on the LC refurb. Take that out and in reality their football operations made a $2mill loss. The 2021 report isnt out yet.

Panthers made a profit in football operations or LC operations? 2020 their surplus looks largely due to job keeper grant and a development grant for the WSCC. In 2019 they made a small loss overall and only achieved $3.2mill in fanbase revenue.

Sharks 2021 report was released a few weeks ago:

https://sharksatkareela.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/2021-Annual-Report.pdf

Sharks Football club made a $19,034 profit in 2021 (2020 - $56,714 profit). The development sale has no impact on the Football Club accounts, so the there is no reality where the football club made a $2m loss.

Commbank stadium has made parramatta a financial powerhouse. The football clubs revenue is up I think 3 million in game day sales and memberships and sponsorships. In addition the leagues club has seen revenues increase many millions as well.

the new ground at Penrith will do the same for the panthers. They already had one of the strongest assets bases in the league anyway.

those two clubs are going to be amongst the strongest in the league financially and also in terms of producing juniors

Your hatred of Cronulla is ironic given the English team you support. If people here knew more about hull kr they would release the massive hypocrite you are mocking Cronulla when they are basically a much bigger and better version of your club

Parra get the advantage of other codes/clubs using the ground. Spending money in the Leagues Club

Penrith won't have that but the hotel etc will bring in the cash. Good times coming for Sydney NRL fans

I think the Easts Group will out do them both as far as finances go and with their long term partnership with the Expanding Central Coast in both Male and Female Rugby League they will be able to match Penrith and Parramatta in producing Juniors via the various pathways - Andrew Johns and Laurie Daley Cups/ Harold Matthews( 2 sides - Sydney Roosters and Central Coast Roosters ) / SG Ball/ Tarsha Gale Cup for instance

The team that will outstrip all Sydney Based teams for Junior numbers is Wests Tigers but until they work out their true identity and base themselves in the Macarthur area nothing will change.

A number of other Sydney Clubs - Souths/Canterbury/Parramatta and even Manly are investing time, effort and I dare say money in the Macarthur Group 6 area as they can see a gap in the market so to speak since Wests Tigers are obsessed with Old Balmain ( Leichhardt Oval ) and Old Wests(Lidcombe - Ashfield ) and virtually ignore the Macarthur Group 6 area.

Their home games spread speaks for it's self- not sure how playing 4 games at Commbank Stadium installs any interest the Wests Tigers have in their future - Macarthur-Group 6 Region

4 games at Commbank Stadium- Storm/ Souths/Cowboys/Penrith
3 games at Leichhardt - Bulldogs/Parramatta/Raiders
3 games at Campbelltown - Warriors/Sea Eagles/ Knights
1 game at Tamworth- Sharks
1 "home" game Magic round- Suncorp- Cowboys

Penrith now are the benchmark for what every rugby league club should aspire too

the nrl has to start rewarding teams who actually develop juniors. The current system is just stupid. Some clubs can just sit back and let other clubs do the hard work then pick them off

Thanks for posting. At least they broke even at long last this year. First time in a long time.
like is said that $10mill surplus of 2020 was due to a $12mill one off payment which has to be spent on the LC, ergo the actual bottom line was a $2mill loss for 2020.

You have to laugh at the latest proposal publushed in the papers this week

If a club doesnt do any development but poach players at any age including RG

And they debut at your club you get a salary cap concession

Cause it’s the only proposal that the roosters will be classed as a development club

Yes and then theyll turf them ala momo, only to have him return and get that salary cap concession.... its not a really a good system, now IF!!! They said yes we'll do this, it has to be players that stem from their reserve grade squad, and have a minimum 2-3 time spent there, like they did with joseph suuali, at norths, but in reality its norths developing them, any way to "fudge the rulez" ey robbo

The advantage you get is in the first couple of deals, before the chequebook clubs can pounce. Players like Tago and Tiny May are on significantly less than they'd command on the open market. You have this happening along with a half decent coach you must succeed on the field. Trouble is, you are always having to let go players at the other end of the scale.

It’s a professional sport, it’s not 1976 And it’s not all about Sydney any more. The games administration really needs to move with the times. This is the problem with Sydney LC‘s being responsible for jnr rl, the nrl club then feels some level of entitlement to them.

let the state bodies be responsible for grassroots, sure lc can spend some of their ill gotten gains helping out if they like but nrl clubs don’t get involved until elite pathway programs after 16 With the best of the best.
