Stalled and stagnant Sydney clubs

Lol, did Vlandys originally accept $100mill less? Yes he did
does telstra not free streaming benefit kayo? Yes it does
Telstra just bought a 51% stake in Fetch TV, pending ACCC approval. It'll be interesting to see if Telstra retain their 35% stake in Foxtel. I'm hoping it leads to an agreement between Fetch and Foxtel to share NRL games. That can only be good for the game.

Penrith now are the benchmark for what every rugby league club should aspire too

the nrl has to start rewarding teams who actually develop juniors. The current system is just stupid. Some clubs can just sit back and let other clubs do the hard work then pick them off
They win their first comp since 2003 and are the benchmark???

They would have to re-draw the junior boundaries if that was the case.

I am sure Penrith sign up youngsters from outside the Penrith junior area as they do sign on Penrith Juniors as well.

If Junior numbers were the benchmark for Success then West Tigers would be winning comps. In the not too distant future they will have the most juniors of any Sydney Club - their junior area - Liverpool to Macarthur including Group 6 is ever expanding

Really you actually know how many of the Roosters NRL squad came through their Junior Systems and or played none or very little NRL previously

Keighran - 9 previous NRL games - Roosters - 15 NRL games
Hutchinson - 4 previous NRL games - Roosters 36 NRL games
Tedesco - 90 previous NRL games - Roosters 97 NRL games
Naigama - 113 previous NRL games - Roosters 3 NRL games
Keary - 63 previous NRL games - Roosters 101 NRL games
JWH - 6 previous NRL games - Roosters 261 NRL games
Atoni - 43 previous NRL games - Roosters 0 NRL games
SST- 1 previous NRL games - Roosters 155 NRL games

* Crichton - 55 NRL games - Roosters 68 NRL games - Crichton played Juniors with the Roosters in Harold Matthews/ and in the SG Ball premiership winning side which included Joey Manu and Latrell Mitchell before going to Union and then signed by the Souths.

* Keary was booted from Souths by Crowe in any case

I've never understood why so many people hate the Roosters. I don't mind them.

Why are you talking about the covid reductions. Afl accepted pretty much same covid reductions.

all you need to look at is how there is a gap of 90 million between the two codes financial results. And that was after the arlc increased funding to clubs during covid of 35 million pa plus whilst the afl cut funding by clubs by a similar amount

there’s literally a gap of 150 pa between the 2 codes bottom lines

Well maybe the tigers would be more successful if the roosters hadnt taken Tedesco lmao

good luck with Brandon smith it’s another case of the roosters looking to buy a premiership like they did with Cronk.

No different to you hating the broncos, i don't mind brisbane, and maybe if roosters didnt get too many leg ups and poach anyone they want when they go to market, besides having 9 teams in the greater sydney area, then calling yourself "Sydney" isn't convoluted, I'd be less hating on them if they stayed easts or syd city, if anything Rabbitohs are more "Sydney" than anyone else

Because they are a cancer on the competition and the game itself.

The media and other stakeholders do what is the best for the Roosters, notwithstanding the fact that they have very little support.

For example, have a look at their games and the amount of 50-50 calls they get. The Warriors game was a case in point. The Daniel Tupou tackle was another one. Also if you ever read a Sydney newspaper or watch a rugby league program, there will always be a fluff piece or somebody remarking on how wonderful the Roosters are. Essentially they do their bidding.

They have also prevented real progress on things like the salary cap because the current set up suits them more than anybody else.

The ironic thing about posters having a go at Sydney clubs for support (sometimes fairly and sometimes not) is that the Roosters are often missed and they stick out like the proverbial.

Their membership numbers are on par with Canterbury (who can’t win a game) and less than the Tigers (who haven’t made the finals in what 10 years). Can you imagine the membership numbers for those clubs if they had 20 years of almost uninterrupted success?

You make good points.

I guess the Roosters are to Sydney what the Broncos are to Brisbane, albeit a less successful version off the field.

It would be good if South Sydney and Manly put in more effort to take over the CBD and its surrounds. Maybe South Sydney cam focus on Southern Sydney and Manly focus on the North Shore.

Because they are a cancer on the competition and the game itself.

Those are good points. In the 90s it was the Broncos in this position, albeit with an actual fanbase behind them to justify it.

Things seemed to change around Super League with Phil Gould and Brad Fittler moving to the Roosters.

Tupou should have been sent off and suspended for 3 or 4 games. I was angry watching that game because Adam Gee did everything he could to get the Roosters over the line. The referees do the same whenever the Broncos and Storm play the Cowboys, giving them all of the 50/50s. That Sutton bastard did everything he could to get the Roosters over the line against the Cowboys. Three Cowboys player sinbinned over nothing. That simpleton Brad Fittler then tried to justify it with his slurred speech and vacant look in his eyes.

I think it's fair to say the NRL is a corrupt organisation with suspicious links to the media and betting market. We all know the game is just a tool for Murdoch to lure subscribers to his overpriced service. Betting companies are also throw big money at the game and I doubt they're doing it out of goodwill. They want something in return, such as referees influencing the results of games depending on the odds and how people are betting.

I see them as having more potential than Manly to become a big club, hence the reason I focus more on Manly.

Both clubs have been successful on the field, but neither have converted it into a strong supporter base. Roosters have the better location and a world class stadium.

A team called Sydney is more marketable outside of NSW than one called Manly as everyone knows where Sydney is, but few people could point to Manly on a map.

Brookvale will always be substandard and Manly has never tried to increase their footprint.

Plus Roosters draw better attendances and ratings.

For these reasons I support Roosters over Sea Eagles.

There’s another example of a terrible call benefiting the golden boys. Blatant knock on missed by the referees
