Stalled and stagnant Sydney clubs

Ok how many premier league clubs play on grounds that aren’t in their historical area ?

how many nfl teams play in grounds not in their home area ?
How many Premier League clubs own their own grounds?

How many markets in the NFL have more than one club?

The EPL's circumstances are so different from the NRL's in this regard that it's basically impossible to compare the two. I doubt anybody would have a problem if the Sydney clubs could afford to each own their own state of the art stadiums, but that's not realistic.

All of the NFL teams that are in multi team cities share centralised stadia, well TBF Metlife isn't centralised, it isn't even in NY, but that's a product of necessity not choice. All American sports are also famous for teams relocating away from their traditional 'home area' to completely different markets, so it's a bit weird to try and use them as an example.

Checkmate. What ur saying is Brisbane is bigger than Newcastle. Guess which city is even more bigger than Brisbane?!
Brisbane is also a capital city with a thriving commercial sector. Newcastle has always been a regional city with limited commerce. So you're comparing apples with oranges. Gold Coast would be more comparable to Newcastle as they're both regional, albeit with Gold Coast having more people and a stronger commercial sector.

A professional sporting league needs money from the commercial sector to survive and thrive.

Why do you think Brisbane is of importance to the broadcasters and sponsors whereas no one gives a f**k about Newcastle?

The stupidity of what you're saying is evident by Redcliffe Dolphins, Easts Tigers and possibly Wynnum Manly Seagulls being richer and stronger than most Sydney clubs. If two or three BRL clubs that have never played in a national competition are bigger than most Sydney clubs that have been there since 1988, how do you think things would fare if only the BRL clubs had access to gaming machines?

Buddy the body running the game now is the ARL
Yet News Ltd still pulls the strings. Funny that.

Test football is an afterthought because News Ltd don't see value in it. The ARL would benefit nicely from a calendar that has a window in the middle of the season dedicated to Tests.

Origin would be standalone if our game wasn't controlled by the broadcasters because it f**ks up the NRL Premiership.

ARL is in control in name only.

Ur almost there. Brisbane is more important than Newcastle. How does it compare to Sydney the financial, commercial capital of the region?!

The Broncos are bigger and richer than every Sydney club. Companies line up to sponsor the Broncos whereas the Sydney clubs only pick up the crumbs. The amount of people who watch the game in Brisbane is not far off Sydney.

The Dolphins' sponsorship deal with Adventure Kings is richer than most clubs, especially the ones from Sydney.

f**k, even the Townsville-based Cowboys have a better sponsorship deal than most Sydney clubs!

Balmain would cease to exist. Brisbane has its own Tigers brand that's been based at Coorparoo for 80 years. The Eastern Suburbs Tigers are one of the strongest rugby league clubs in Australia and have a larger district than Balmain, stretching from Bulimba in Brisbane's east to Yarrabilba in Logan's outer south-east. Its Leagues Club is so large and strong that the Broncos Leagues relied on it for support a few years ago. Logan is a strong growth region of Greater Brisbane and has produced a long list of world class rugby league players over the last 40 years.

Darwin should be looking to field a team in the Queensland Cup and link up with the North Queensland Cowboys.

I do think the Sharks and Dragons are competing with each other for survival. Southern Sydney doesn't have the population to support two NRL clubs. Dragons have the more recognisable brand and larger geographic footprint, so Cronulla should go to Adelaide or Perth. Southern Sydney Dragons and Adelaide Sharks would be good for the game.

The Bears won't be back. The best case scenario is for Manly to rebrand as North Sydney Sea Eagles and promote themselves as the club for North Shore, Northern Beaches and Central Coast.
Manly are the only club for the whole of the north of Sydney
A massive area, but we're just fine as the MANLY Sea-Eagles
Everyone that I know over here on the Lower North Shore now goes for Manly as its all close enough to each other.
I'm born and bred in Manly but I can assure you that our fan base has spread to Mosman & Lower North Shore, Upper North Shore to some degree, Northern Suburbs and probably further north like Central Coast

That's great news. Hopefully we'll see a rise in attendances at Brookvale once the upgrades are finished.

Any chance of Manly fans travelling to the SFS for blockbuster games?

News Ltd didn't get kicked out. They decided to sell their stake in the game and Melbourne Storm after the Melbourne Storm salary cap scandal. They hung onto the Broncos though as that's where they make their money.

Says a lot about the importance of Sydney, hey?

Ok since the broncos got 16k last night (must be close to one of their lowest crowds ever) we should be booting them out now ?

Brilliant news if true. We need a strong side north of the harbour and I’d much prefer it to be your side than the Roosters

🤦

We haven't gotten our competition back. News Ltd just just run it from behind the scenes.

Are you naive enough to think the ARLC would sign a broadcast deal that includes a weekly 6pm Friday game if they held all the power?

No club would be happy with the timeslot and the ARLC has to provide financial compensation to the clubs who host itq. The only party benefitting from it is Foxtel.

Who owns Foxtel?

News Ltd.

Thursday night isn't a good time slot and it's still higher than the Sydney average. Poor crowd for Broncos, but they've got some way to go before they're at Sydney's low level.

foxtel pay the nrl more than any other sport. It’s only fair they get some preferences. The arlc decided to can Monday night football against the wishes of foxtel.

Doesn't AwFuL get more, despite rugby league providing better value and higher ratings?

It's more proof that our game is still run by Murdoch.
