Stalled and stagnant Sydney clubs

There's only so much money in the economy and not enough people willing to invest their time and money into multiple sports.
says who? In Perth we have a city of 2.2million. We have eagles with 100k members, dockers with 40k members, wildcats avg 14k crowds, force with 12k crowds, glory with 8k crowds. And there’s still room for an nrl club to be successful. Some people like a particular sport, some like a number of sports.

It's why footballers who go into a nightclub are hugely successful among fertile young women.
Good theory, but why did the singer Ted Mulry, eight stone wringing wet and five foot nothing, always have a bevy of nubiles hanging off him at the Manzil Room back in the day? I think the young girlies just like money and fame.

You're talking about world famous musicians who are in the top 1% of celebrities. It doesn't mean the women who hooked up with them at parties weren't having it off with tall and muscular athletic men.

You chastise Sydney clubs for averaging 15k, yet you're now lauding three Perth teams that draw less. 🤔

Problem is Tv isnt really covering the clubs costs, many are still losing money or reliant on millions from the LC. The TV grant would need to go up to around $18-20mill a year if we are going to stop caring all together about fanbased revenue
Not sure why you keep thinking a LC grant is not valid revenue

It clearly is and will always be

Sponsors & Merchandise are not tied to where a team plays anymore. Covid has proven that

Then you have NRL over pricing the fan base from halfway line seating and pushing more fans back to TV, as well as classic scheduling to reduce crowds

Ted had about 3 small to medium sized hits in Australia only in the 70s, even though he was a pom. Not exactly Mick Jagger.

Only thing that has stalled is the Dolphins recruitment drive. At this rate they’ll be worse than the West Tigers next season.

And people are talking about having an 18th team???

🤣😂🤣

The good thing about entering the NRL with a mediocre roster is it will allow the club to develop a rusted-on fanbase who don't care about results.

I personally wouldn’t fill a new franchise with “superstars“ as that’s a huge short term risk. I’d fill the majority of the squad with consistent and dependable NRL career players and hungry fringe u21 squad players obviously from other NRL teams with the emphasis of the majority of the squad being under the age of 25-26.

Id also be looking at players from the U.K. , png hunters and even kaiviti silktails.

Big difference, those are not the main clubs playing the main sport in the city. The two clubs that are avg 53k and 41k!
That’s the comparison with Sydney clubs you should be contemplating.

Further proof the clown has no idea

haha another idiot comparing an Aleague or basketball club in an afl city to Sydney nrl clubs in an RL city! Let’s compare the two main sports clubs in perth to the main sports clubs in sydney shall we? How’s that look? it would take six sydney nrl clubs to avg the two perth afl clubs crowds. Embarrassing really.

2m people (45%) in Sydney were born overseas. Why do you think that they would all like RL?

Vlandys obviously thought the dolphins supermarket would sway players to sign for them! Nrl is just dumb for thinking they can start a new club with no support to make them competitive from day one. they should have allowed them cap concessions to sign outside the exisitng nrl player pool.

Sydney’s not unique in that regard by any means yet seems to struggle the most, whys that? 41% of perth are from overseas yet they still draw massive crowds,

You seen many people from sub continent or asia for that matter at Rugby League?

So you have a good slab of people with no interest in the sport

That said in 2019 1,638,922 people in Sydney attended an NRL game.

The Sydney population is 5.3m. So 30% of people attended a game.

This is despite timeslots not being good for attending games, high costs, the people not interested in the sport.

So the only issues are with people living interstate with crazy expectations

ha that’s a cumulative figure not a unique figure! In reality about 200k people a year (being generous) attend an nrl game in Sydney. Around 4%. out of 5.3million that’s pretty poor.
