All that is true but we don’t exactly help ourselves do we.It doesn't help that our media and universities are full of wankers who denigrate the game and its followers at every opportunity.

We are too insular and don't reach out to new audiences. All that is true but we don’t exactly help ourselves do we.
Unless in the highly unlikely event of a sydney team relocating or merging then the 18th NRL place must either go to Perth or NZ2 over another Brisbane/Queensland team.We are too insular and don't reach out to new audiences.
PVL is the most proactive leader we've had in some time. I hope he sticks around and puts a team in Perth. If he does then the game will be in a much stronger position.
I'd like to see a 2nd and 3rd NZ team at some stage. New Zealand is an important market.Unless in the highly unlikely event of a sydney team relocating or merging then the 18th NRL place must either go to Perth or NZ2 over another Brisbane/Queensland team.
Since the warriors joined the winfield cup 27 years ago the number of kiwis playing in the NRL is rising year on year to the point where NRL clubs are seriously targeting NZ rugby Union schoolboy talent alongside kiwi league schoolboys and you can only see this widening even more in the future.I'd like to see a 2nd and 3rd NZ team at some stage. 2000 and 2001 there were 14 teams. That was the optimum number identified immediately following the end of the war.1000% Opinion, not proven fact
Contrary evidence is that the game went from a peak of 20 clubs in 1998 to a low of 15 clubs in 2004-2006 yet the overall tv audience and tv value has kept growing, and the game had a higher total crowd attendance in 2004 than in 1998 or 2019 when there were more clubs. Go figure.
14 had been the recognised optimum number for many years, ARL was keen to get it to that number back in the 80’s. I suppose difference is the money in the game now which means they can afford more clubs plus wider player development pools.2000 and 2001 there were 14 teams. There teams in NZ would cement RL as the second biggest sport in NZ and narrow the gap between it and onionball.Since the warriors joined the winfield cup 27 years ago the number of kiwis playing in the NRL is rising year on year to the point where NRL clubs are seriously targeting NZ rugby Union schoolboy talent alongside kiwi league schoolboys and you can only see this widening even more in the future.
Christchurch would be my #1 pick for NZ2 followed by Wellington for NZ3 if it was ever to happen.
Bigger than netball? Think it would take a lot more than extra nrl clubs lol. There teams in NZ would cement RL as the second biggest sport in NZ and narrow the gap between it and onionball.
Netball is a female sport. Boys and men couldn't give a shit about it.Bigger than netball? Think it would take a lot more than extra nrl clubs lol.
You might want to qualify your statement then and not be generic about being the second biggest “sport” in NZ!Netball is a female sport. Boys and men couldn't give a shit about it.
Men, women, boys and girls watch mens sport because it helps determine who has the fittest genes for reproduction and who is best equipped to defend the tribe during war. Women and girls want to see who is the biggest, baddest, bravest, smartest, tallest, strongest, toughest and most capable "warrior" as that's what they want in a man to pass down to their children. It's why footballers who go into a nightclub are hugely successful among fertile young women. You might want to qualify your statement then and not be generic about being the second biggest “sport” in NZ!
Haha, the 1970’s called and wants their neanderthal back.Men, women, boys and girls watch mens sport because it helps determine who has the fittest genes for reproduction and who is best equipped to defend the tribe during war. Us men don't care about how tough, tall, strong or brave a woman is because those traits in a woman don't benefit us in any way. Seeing a big, tall, powerful woman running around like a man turns most men off because it goes against what men are designed to do, which is procreate with a fertile woman who will bear their children and successfully raise them to adulthood. Take a masculine female athlete into a nightclub and she won't experience the same degree of success as a feminine looking woman who likes knitting and cooking. It's for this reason NRLW will never be as big as the NRL. Women's soccer in England and the WNBA don't make money.

You cannot shame men and women into watching women's sport. No matter how much promotion it gets, the fact remains that the best athletes are men because it requires masculine traits such as strength, agility, power, speed, spatial awareness, and aggression, which are linked to testosterone. A 15 year old boy has this over a full grown woman due to testosterone. It's why an U15 boys' team from Newcastle thumped the Australian women's national soccer team 7-0. That Australian women's national team was the fourth best team on the FIFA Women's soccer rankings. A high school boys' team beat the American women's field hockey team. A German tennis player ranked about 200 in the world beat Serena and Venus Williams in an exhibition match at the 1998 Australian Open. He even had a smoke during the game. Venus was ranked in the top 20s at the time and the German bloke was in his 30s. It is what it is.Haha, the 1970’s called and wants their neanderthal back.
audience isnt the only measure of a sports popularity, participation is arguably a equal if not better measure as it requires effort, netball has it all over rl in nz and always will.
Correct. I was working on my car until 3am that night. Started working on it midway through the first half of the Panthers vs Rabbitohs game because I was bored.Friday night.
