I think there should be a simple 3 week break

FOR EXAMPLE

WEEK ONE

Fri - Tonga V Samoa
Saturday - Fiji V PNG
Sunday - NZ Maori V Indigenous All Stars

(I would personally do something like a Pacific Islands RL Fest in Syd) Other options include Lebanon etc playing

Wed State of Origin

WEEK TWO

Fri - Samoa V PNG
Sat - Tonga V Fiji
Sunday - NZ Origin - North V South

Wed - State of Origin

WEEK THREE

Friday - Pacific Origin - NZ V Pacific All Stars (all Fiji etc)
Sat
Sunday - City V Country

Wed - State of Origin

BACK TO NORMAL ROUNDS

Friday - Back to normal round with single game and split round. - ensure Warriors are one of the teams to play)

There is no reason other RL special events could also happen. Multicultural Fest - Womens Championship/Nines/Short 'Champions CHallenge' (including rep teams from A number of areas) etc.

It just seems that neither comps (origin and club nrl) should get full rein. Obviously there needs to be a compromise. Yes averages will go down over origin time but will they if only 1 week of teams is affected.
Here is how I think it could work with a bit of compromise from both sides.
For argument sake if next year origin starts after round 12. Round 12 would be without origin stars and would have poor crowds. Then a origin series on the next 3 weeks on the Wednesday! After the deciding origin the weekend after clubs fixtures resume. So it would give non origin players a 2 week brake in the middle of the season to promote and expand the nrl product. Now that gives only 1 week without the stars and also condenses the current 2 month origin grind. Now origin stars need a 10 day origin build up at the start of a series but can't see why it needs to repeat for 2nd and 3rd game.
This looks like the only suitable way that both comps can still have a major impact without majorly affected the other......... What do you guys think??

Your idea is far to good and well thought out for the "brains trust" of the NRL to even consider it.

What happens at the start before origin. Because joshreadings post says 3 weeks but looks like only 2.

It's Three weeks - before Origin would be a Rep Weekend - Pacific Cup etc. I have edited the post for a little more clarity (bolding and moving one game)

They "banned" it before Game 2 actually. So considering there was a fight in Game 2 then by your way of thinking, the ratings should have dropped even further.

Or the whole fighting thing could just be a bunch of nonsense.

Thats the point, i wasnt using logic. But then again, neither was he.

I think they will use it as an excuse not to, even though it would be the best result for the sport.

How would it be the best result? Wed night gives it 100% exposure as nothing else clashes.

I can't think of a team to of lost ladder position or gained ladder position due to SOO. We still got a good 1m or so watching the 'weakened' NRL games.

How do the ratings compare to the biggest tv viewing figures ever for a sports event in Australia? I Imagine the Melbourne cup, Olympics are the biggest ever?

I think there have been a few 5m+. Olympics, Wimbledon finals and Rugby World Cup hacve been 4 million metro alone. It's might be top 10.
