Stephen Kearney new Warriors Coach

So true. I think Doyle must have decided "if there are no good head coaches available, maybe 4 assistant coaches can equal 1 head coach".

Or he thought, two wrongs make a right?

McFail has clearly exhibited to not know how to coach an NRL team. So what does he offer as an assistant? Are we just softening the blow on him, or our hip pockets by not paying someone else + him? And similarly, Kearney has no knowledge of how to coach an NRL side week in, week out - and I mean that tactically, personnel wise, running an organisation etc. It's so, SO much different to getting guys up for a one-off Test or a three-Test series/tournament.

We're always spoken about as top eight contenders before the season starts but the sides in the eight all deserve to start as bigger favourites. The Bunnies were on an upward curve at the end of the season, the Eels will be much, much better next year, the Roosters if injury-free will be back to contend for the 8, even the Sea Eagles and Tigers will have a say. I can see another disappointing year ahead. Kearney won't come in and dominate as a head coach, and McFadden is no great assistant. Oh oh but Sir Graham is involved!

I'm glad there's been a change and I won't be cutting grass for 80 mins each week as I threatened, but I don't like this appointment at all. I actually dislike the assistant appointments even more.

With David Mead signing on with the donkey's Kearney may be bringing Kahu over with him. Will be good to have a proper winger

Something we absolutely desperately need. Don't think any of us mid-year realised how vital it would be to sign someone like Kahu. Solid centre and fullback cover too if required.

also where's the guy that said his mate was cappys landlord and was shifting back to aussie, maybe he meant shifting to Albany :confused:
That was me, it was Andrew Webster not McFadden. I will give myself an uppercut right now. Glad McFadden will not be head coach, I hope he leaves or gets shifted into going round schools.

I honestly don't see this as a bad thing.

You've got to leave the Eels debacle out of the equation.

He's had to work with some kiwis teams with depth issues in key positions and has produced results in the past couple of years. What's been pleasing is the way they've won those games. They've hung in there, defended well and more often than not played smart.

He's a motivator (just look at the performances he get's out of guys like Blair who struggle at club

and most importantly - Steve doesnt suffer fools

Have to agree with all of this. In the last 3 or 4 years he has turned the Kiwis into a low error, low penalty team. That's why we can get in a grind. If he can do that to the Warriors, we may have a shot of improving and getting back to finals football.

So, new coach for the ISP? Iro? (Is he even still around?)

There was a whisper about Ritchie Blackmore going around. Wouldn't be surprised if he ended up coaching ISP or the under twenties.

Any word on this Mixmaster?

Haven't heard Blackmore's name mentioned.

Well currently McFadden is the only confirmed assistant coach.
Stace, is gone into an advisory role as far as I'm aware. What that entails, I don't know. It could mean that he mentors the halves?
Webster and Morgan are gone.
I think there is going to be another assistant to come in

There is another assistant to come. The assistant is planned to be David Kidwell.

If you read the Warriors press release this morning, Kearney refers to another assistant to be announced who has 'international experience'. That's David.

I read that as a badly worded press release, where the international experience part was referring to Stacey.

I imagine it was supposed to be referring to Kidwell. Either way, Kidwell is who Kearney & the club wants.

"Vodafone Warriors legend Stacey Jones promoted to add further depth in a new role and another experienced international coach set to be signed to join the coaching team."

I think that's pretty clear that there's another signing to come.

So are you like Iron Lying but without the Lying? Awesome.

I'm not sure I'm keen on that comparison.

I was simply given some info last week that I posted and it turned out to be on the money. So I'm confident that the Kidwell info is on the mark too - whether that works out as planned who knows.

I'm just happy its a Kiwi coach and someone who has been in the coaching apprenticeship for a long time now. We all know hes won a world championship with the Kiwis and that's something a lot of elite coaches would love to have achieved as the international stage is truly the best of the best, NOT the NRL.

I do wonder with the many coaches that are being thrown around, is that Henrys idea? We know he appointed two other coaches with him in the All Blacks. I cant help but think the 'two heads are better than one' analogy and furthermore I wonder, would it be a first in the NRL to have a head coach and two assistants? Henry is quite innovative one example is when he was coaching his champion Auckland Blues side, he got his forwards not to compete at the lineout five metres out from their line against teams he identified as strong in the rolling maul. With Graham Henry there it'll be interesting to see what he does and if we'll hear about it.

Change isn't always smooth for any organization internally however Kearney has been through this before at Parra and despite his new position and power, I'm sure he wont willingly tread on anyone's' toes so to speak. Of course he'll change things but I cant imagine it to be too much, even with the team. I'm guessing based on his selections in the Kiwis train on squad that the personnel wont change too much and if it stays the same, we can get an idea of how the teams looking since his reign and make comparisons to Cappys coaching. All this starts from his preseason program so we can look to the earlier rounds of next year.

Its exciting times going into next year with Steven as coach. The haters should have finished their box of Snowtex tissues, wiped their tears and embraced the return of the Warrior and look forward to exciting times ahead!

Sorry bro, it was actually a compliment, but in hindsight I completely butchered it

Mmm okay now that I actually use my brain, Stacey isn't an experienced international coach at all therefore you'd have to be right.

So Kearney, McFadden and Kidwell, with Jones a halves/kicking consultant I would say.

Let the good times roll on.
