the NRL didnt suspend him becuase he was on charges though , they suspended him for drunken behaviour. Are we going to suspend all players for 4 weeks that do the same thing?

and what other than the accusations did stewart do that would warrant 4 weeks? it seems to me he has been suspended for getting drunk and thats it.
i just think they used that loophole to overturn Manlys decision over the trial. Like when a cop pulls over a suspected drug dealer because of a busted tail light. One leads to the other.

Good on the NRL.

Think about it...they just spent 2 million putting this marketing campaign together...where he is the face of...and now goes and makes himself look like a goose...as far as im concerned, he or the club should fork out whatever dollar amount it takes to amend the advertising campaign for his stupidity.

Would you prefer the NRL to finally get tough after the next atrocity. Got to start sometime. GOod on the NRL. Next step a tribunal for off field behaviour.

Someone needs to take a stand. I agree. But why wait until he is charged? This happened Friday evening. It's now Wednesday. Why a phone conference until this morning?

And what about Watmough?

He caused headlines whether he was right or wrong, he was intoxicated at the time too.

Clowns! The whole NRL Board are a bunch of lunatic clowns!

I would like the NRL to put a clear and defined set of rules in place as to how these suspensions are going to take place. And who exactly is going to make the suspension.

For starters any suspension process should be transperant and allow the player in question to state his case to an independent authority. ( ie not the NRL board)

Correct decision by the NRL. Stewart was the face of the NRL this season and he let the game down.

Whether he is inocent or guilty of sexual assaulty, he is definitely guilty of bringing the game into disrepute.

More importantly, he has been charged by the police so this is no tiny issue we're dealing with.

I don't care about inconsistency from the past - this is absolutely the correct decision.

Since you make that claim as if it was fact, show us all the evidence that he is guilty.

just to name afew watmough punched out his cousin at a family gathering, he also got charged with throwing a glass at his ex girlfriend. I cant believe how many of you gooses think he was stood down just for getting drunk, they have proof enough to charge that he sexually assaulted a 17 year old girl, pull your heads out of your arse, he's lucky 4 weeks paid vacation is all he's copped

I guess its not until police charges are laid that the NRL views it as a serious. I guess the NRL were probably also hoping that when the teams were named yesterday Stewarts name wouldn't be on the team sheet.

I still don't see why Manly have the 100k dollar fine. Brett got to his apartment building. Surely the duty of care for a 24 year old male doesn't extend to laying them down in their bed and watching to make sure they fall asleep. I just don't think manly has done the wrong thing in all of this..

Firstly, it was coins, wasn't it? Secondly, nothing ever came of that so the presumption is he was innocent. Come on, you've named one, plus the sponsor one (he was an idiot to make the comment but the dude did charge him after, and witnesses are saying he just pushed him away, not punched him), so we only need "about 8 more" :sarcasm:

On the matter from what we are hearing i too think that Watmough should be suspended also, how can someone hit a sponsor and get away with it?
Wouldn't that be assault?
The Manly club haven't handled this well at all.

Apparently there are a plethora of witnesses to the sponsor attacking Watmough and being ejected from the venue twice.

Sadly, the game is being run by the media and it's sensationalism.

I believe in innocent until proven guilty. That is the law of the land!

I don't agree with what he was supposed to have done, but he is innocent until proven guilty, and therefore he should be allowed to play.

sh*t decision. At least its only til round 5 and not indefinite.

It has finally happened. Footballers careers are now decided by the Daily Telegraph. Presumption of innocence has no meaning in the NRL, and penalties are handed out to look good in the public eye rather than be actually fair and just.

offcourse most here realise its becuase of the charges.

what people are annoyed at is the NRL are making things up as they go. Saying one thing but doing another, its classic NRL rubbish.

I once saw Matt King drunk in Richmond at 1am on a saturday night in the middle of off-season. And he was wearing ugg boots. Should he have been suspended?
