Storm salary cap scandal thread

Surely it is grossly unfair for teams who have or will lose to the Storm this year to miss out on 2 competition points having to play against a team that have players earning $700,000 above the salary cap that other teams are restricted to.

A sad disgrace

I would like to see the premierships awarded to parra and manly. when the match fixing scandal hiy Italy. Juventus' titles went to Inter Milan, so there is a precedent albeit in another sport

I'm guessing these breaches are on top of the ones they already got fined for in some of those years?

Doesn't make sense how they were 700k over this year, but only averaging 250k for the previous 4.

what about the players like cam smith, slater, inglis etc....they must have noticed a extra few grand in they paycheques every month...

this is a massive conspiracy to defraud the game...its not just the men in suits @ the storm...its the players too..all of them who knowing accepted extra payments beyond the salary cap must surely be banned?

Don't get your hopes up fellas, this'll probably turn out like every other news article that bashes the Storm. Based on nothing.
lol

f**king idiots Melbourne. You've just shot yourselves and the code in the foot. You still would've had a decent side the whole time, maybe not as good but still good, much like the rest of the comp, but you had to go for more. Now you've screwed your fans, fans of the game and yourselves.

Would've thought teams would've learnt from the time of the Bulldogs what happens when you try and screw the system. It screws you.

Brian Waldron has alot to answer for, the merkin

Totally gutted. The worst part is how much damage this will do to the game. This is the biggest setback league has faced since superleague.

I hope all of the people who knew about this get sacked and banned from the game for life.

I also think we deserve to know where the money was going. I can guess though, all of it would of been going to a few overpriced players at the top whilst the rest of the hard working players got nothing.

If i was one of the players who wasn't getting paid i would either walk away from the club now or wait until my contract is over and leave. Bellamy ought to do the same.

I will not be supporting the storm anymore. After nearly 10 years of being a member. I am a league fan first and foremost and seeing the damage this will do to the game just angers me so much.

I am trying not to let this affect my love for the game but it is difficult. Everything i have cheered for over the last 5 years has meant nothing. I'm not sure i will ever enjoy the game the same way.

I especially feel bad for the kids who idolised these players.

This should have been handled another way. The penalty needed to be harsh but it has been handled so poorly. This was always going to be big but the way the NRL has handled this is going to cause even more problems.

Well if you think about what happened with the dogs in 2002 you just have to say fair's fair for the cheating storm. If they go under it will be the ultimate punishment but one that is entirely due.
Now someone call up the CC Bears and ask them what they're doing in 2011...

I'm not sure why Storm fans would bother turning up to games either. A part of me wishes this had been handled some other way, even at the end of the year. Drop the hammer when the season is over maybe.

That's what gets me, if fans don't turn up this year or next it could be the end of the Storm. They'll all jump onto the Melbourne S15 team or get into AFL more. It will really screw us at the next TV rights deal if Melbourne aren't in the comp.
And I don't now how Melbourne fans will handle being an ordinary team on the field for a few years. They're so used to success I think the numbers will really drop off. So much for the new stadium.

Disgraceful.
Absolutely disgraceful.
Lost for words, this is by far the most disgusting systematic exploitation of the rules in the history of the game.

Part of me is laughing at their misfortune, the other part is laughing at the fact that News said they knoew nothing, the other part of me is laughing at the fact Waldron conveniently walked away a little while back, a further part of me is laughing at the fact this team will either need to to take a massive pay cut to stay together, the other part is laughing at all the morons on here who backed them up when there was a chorus of us saying that they were CHEATING SCUM.

BUT, the other part of me feels kind of sorry for the fans of the club who never suspected a thing............... who thought their team was legitimate, to them go my sympathies.

The final part of me is filled with an ABSOLUTE RAGE about 2006 and what would now appear to have been Saints rorted out of a chance to get to the grand final.

God that angers me, Saints cut Thommo, Ennis etc, and this scumbag unit................................ I will never forgive.

Give the titles to Manly and Parra and be done with it, throw back the books review to 1999 for me will you guys.

I hope some miracle game occurs on the weekend that makes us remember how good the NRL is.

Perhaps a 50 all draw in which the defense isn't so much at fault but the attack is just unbelievably good, or something.

Why should Manly and Parramatta be awarded the premierships for 2007 and 2009? What about the two teams who were beaten in the Preliminary Final by Melbourne and missed out on playing in the Grand Final? There may also have been teams who missed out on the Semi Finals altogether by the points they missed out on in losing to the Storm?
