What are Storm and Broncs doing about a) getting their fans there and b) accomodation for them?

or is it c) too bloody hard?

Interesting and bold idea. Worth a go with a preseason trial. But seriously I don't see it leading to anything. Does any Tasmanian even know Rugby League exists?

:D you do realise that in order for someone to know something exists they have to see it, and preferably experience it, don't you?

Great positive feedback guys... jump on board our Facebook page & have a look for more info. Also hit us up on Twitter (Sorry guys, new user so unable to post links!)

All the support would be greatly appreciated to make the event a success and to raise the profile of NRL in Tasmania.

A couple of other announcements to be made later about other events around the game. Come down and make a week or weekend of it! Stayed tuned to the North Hobart Football Club website, our Facebook page & Twitter account to keep up to date. Early bird tickets on sale now!

This is a good idea and one that leads me to another idea

With a game in Adelaide last year and a game in Perth - what would be the chances of say 50% of all League teams playing one home game in non heartland cities each season

Each club nominates and area they wish to associate with outside of NSW & QLD and play a game there every two years. This means from a television point of view 8 games are played each year out of area which could help with the advertising dollar.

Also if a club goes back to an area on a regular basis with trials matches every season and an NRL game every two seasons then that could lead to member numbers increasing.

Warriors could do South Island NZ or Wellington
Sharks could do Adelaide
Souths could take Perth
North Queensland could take Darwin
Storm take Tasmania
Broncos could take PNG

If you chose eight regions, then two teams could vie for support in each area. Say Roosters and Souths in Perth - or Sharks and Dragons in Adelaide. Then there would be a game in each City each season. The two teams vying for that area could even play trials against each other as part of an interstate membership drive.

Anyway, I'm just sprouting ideas.

Good work on the Storm with this initiative.

Agreed ALL NRL clubs should adopt a region and play matches there . It address the expansion issue with trying to add more teams after we expand to 20 teams

Simple play 1 trial in your region and minimum of 1 NRL match in 23 rounds

eg

Nth Qld - 1 match Cairns / 1 match Mt Isa
Brisbane - 1 match Alice Springs
Gold Coast - 1 match Lismore
Ipswich - 1 match Toowoomba
Easts - 3 matches Rockhampton
Souths - 1 match Coffs Harbour
Newcastle - 1 match Tamworth
CC Bears - 3 matches NSO
Manly - 1 match Sunshine Coast
Wests Tigers - schedule 6 games at Campbelltown
St George-Illawarra - schedule 6 games at Wollongong
Canterbury - 1 game to Canterbury NZ
Parramatta - 1 game to Darwin
Penrith - 1 game to Dubbo
Cronulla - 6 games in Adelaide
Perth - 1 game in Kalgoorlie and 1 game in Northern WA
Canberra - 1 game in Wagga and 1 game in Albury
Melbourne - 1 game in Hobart
Auckland - 3 games in Hamilton NZ/Roturua/etc
Wellington NZ - 3 games in Palmerston North/Napier/Canterbury NZ

Lol, some of those grounds would be as embarrassing to the league as Brookie

Its just annoying its the Broncos fixture that was shifted, but in fairness it was probably important to shift a high profile fixture first up. In the future though, it can't be against teams of such ilk.

Thank you Elbusto, it seems you had something to do with getting this trial underway?

I'm sure its going to be a huge success and its a great way to showcase our game in Tassie.
TRL had a minor role . We are very pleased indeed!

what frustrates me is the impotence of the NRL to grow the game in these areas. How about on the back of NRL games the NRL announces the employment of 3 new development officers in the TRL, the launch of a school competition and the funding of a flag RL program for the island? Please let the IC have more of a clue than the current idiots running the game!

AFL approaches things that way. We need to be smarter but we also need the funding. Bring on the next TV deal.

we are talking very small $'s though. You could do all of that for around $250k a year which is peanuts to an organisation with an income of $130mill+. Sorry but we aren't talking AFL hundreds of millions they are spending on spreading their game, just some small start would be good!
