Interesting story in the baseless allegation meister's column about Andrew Voss:

"Two of the Nine Network's biggest league personalities, Ray Hadley and Andrew Voss, are scheduled to face off in court next week. In a bitter dispute that could have ramifications for his future at the station, Voss is suing Hadley for defamation over comments made surrounding the unveiling of the Ray Warren statue in Junee last year. Stuart Littlemore QC will represent Voss in a case scheduled to begin on Monday. Voss has barely been seen on our screens this year. Insiders have suggested his decision to litigate is partly behind his demotion to Queensland Cup duty. Nine may have won the broadcast rights for the NRL but the legal stoush has clouded Voss's future at the network. However, he is holding out hope of extending his stay for a 19th year at the network and beyond. ''I've got no reason to think otherwise at this point,'' Voss said yesterday. ''A contract was mentioned a few months ago but that was before we even knew where the rights went. Since the rights have been awarded our sports boss has been overseas.'' The prospect of the pair being cross-examined in the witness box is sure to be create plenty of media interest."

I hope he takes RAAAAAY to the cleaners

Well done Vossy.

Give this crumpet what he deserves.

Ch 9's league coverage is far worse off without Vossy there.

If there is any justice in the world, Ray Hadley will be back to calling for the radio, and Andrew Voss will be back where he belongs, on Channel 9, calling the NRL.

Gilbert showed a news clip from Fox Sports about some AFL fan blowing a horn to a sports Commentator during a live feed. Gilbert thought that the guy was a tosser. The other 3 panelists thpught it was a funny clip. That shut Gilbert up! lol

Always wondered what vossy did ?

He was in a position Hadley wanted.

Correct

Disagree with the part in bold

I hope Vossy saved most of the money he was earning during his prime at Ch9 when he was calling the Friday night game during 2007-11, as Stuart Littlemore QC charges $6000/day. For someone like Hadley who earns $2 million/year (more than anyone else involved with RL earns), $6000/day is pocket change to him. For 90+% of Australians, they couldn't afford that in their lifetime. At the very most, Vossy would've been lucky to have been earning about 10-20% of Hadley's annual salary

See, that's the part I absolutely hate about the legal system in Australia and why those high net-worth individuals are rarely held to justice. It's an absolute rort for the lawyers. If you don't have the money in the first place, it's very difficult to get quality legal representation. Even for Brett Stewart (one of the highest paid players in the NRL), I believe it cost him nearly half a million dollars in legal fees over the course of his trial.

If Ray does get convicted, I'd pay front row admission to see the look on that dirty face of his as he walks out of the courtroom. Voss could get up to $290,000 according to the precedent that was set three years ago in the Susan Alberti/Ch9 case regarding comments Sam Newman made:

http://www.theage.com.au/national/defamation-nine-says-sorry-newman-doesnt-20091116-ii9y.html

In civil court, winning on the grounds of defamation is one of the highest paying offenses.

Even if Voss wins he is still done at 9 unless Hadley has a falling out.

But Voss will be gone by then.

If he thinks they will renew his contract while he is suing their second in line commentator he is delusional.

He will be there until his contract expires and no longer.

Goodbye Andrew Voss. If he hasn't pissed off anyone at Fox perhaps he will get a gig there.

If Voss is not careful, he could end up worse than Graeme Hughes: in rugby league oblivion. Even though he works at a crappy station, at least Hughesy has his own radio show. Vossy may end up with nothing and it wouldn't surprise me if he does, which would be a big shame for someone who has a lot of talent.

But yeah, I agree with you with your point about his future at 9. As far as that is concerned, it is done like a dinner...surely his comment must've been sarcastic, as most ppl here know that they themselves wouldn't expect to be retained by their employer if they tried to do the same thing in their workplace. Even if Hadley does have a falling out with the key personnel at 9 for the 50 millionth time, it still won't be enough to re-write the situation that currently exists between Voss and 9. In other words, the damage is beyond repair.

He'll be calling the footy with Gibbsy on 2ue.

Don't be too sure about that. A lot of wishful thinking there (including the assumption 2UE will be calling the rights). As I've mentioned in the radio rights thread, as much as I would LOVE to hear the news that other radio stations will be calling the league BESIDES 2GB, I, like Mr Saab, have that sinking feeling that 2GB will retain the "exclusive" commercial rights.

Voss' situation reminds me a lot of Garry Shandling when he took legal action against one of the ppl associated with The Larry Sanders Show, when his career was at its peak during the '90s. Garry thought he was king shit at the time taking action, but little did he know at the time that his rash decision was going to be career suicide for him as his career dramatically declined in the subsequent years.

P.S. And remember Hooch, "It's not what you know; it's who you know". From the precedent set last year with the Ray Warren statue incident, it's clear as the light of day that Hadley has got the key man, David Gyngell, in his corner and at the end of the day, regardless of what you or I or anyone else on this forum says or thinks about that, THAT IS ALL THAT MATTERS. It's the reason why not only Hadley, but other people, whether it be in entertainment industry (music, tv, Hollywood), politics or the business world (e.g. Wall Street), get to the prominent positions that they are in and the more you see these occurrences and you learn about what goes on behind the scenes, it's definitely not because of their talent or hard work. Their power and salaries are definitely not in proportion to either of those two aforementioned characteristics.

Voss has been offered a multi year deal @ 9 provided he is prepared to settle with Hadley rather than go through what could possibly be an explosive legal battle.

Voss obviously feels strongly about what he had to deal with and is holding his ground.
