Ian Watson leaves Salford, reportedly for Huddersfield. Very curious move that one.

Jackson Hastings signs a new deal with Wigan. A very scary spine next season with French, Field & Hastings.

Not really, Hudds have better resources and family reasons to be in area. Hull were touted but the way previous coaches have been treat you'd be very wary about that move id suggest.

NRL eyeing off
Super League

The rumour has been doing the rounds for a while now that there are people within the NRL and ARL Commission who would be interested in buying a stake, or the entirety, of England’s Super League if the opportunity arose.

Weekend Read was told that the commission had asked an investment firm to look into it for them, the idea that they would take control of the two major rugby league competitions in the world and use their expertise to help Super League shake off the financial shackles that have hampered the code in England.

The commission could then ensure the game continues to grow globally and have a say in the make-up of Super League in terms of the nation’s represented.

Money – whether the NRL can afford it and whether it would be worthwhile – will eventually dictate whether it is realistic.

Go back to winter and have the sport on TV all year round. It surprises me there is so little interest in the Super League here in Australia, maybe if it didn't run parallel to our comp things would improve.

Winter would be the worst possible move for Super League IMO. Way too much competition from other sports here (Soccer, Union, even NFL on TV) and slow boggy pitches will ruin the quicker pace we have.

We’re not exactly flush with offers for Super League and don’t particularly have good administration at any level of the game, so we should hear NRL out on their plan, should they make a go for it.

All depends what the takeover entails. If they try and push mergers, it’s not going to happen. If they essentially want the league to become an official feeder league for the NRL, that will go down worse than a stray Joel Tomkins finger. If the plan entails growing the game here and bringing the standard up on and off the field, which I think would be a big benefit to the NRL, it’s worth considering.

The idea has been coming back regularly for several years. A potential takeover of the Super League by the NRL. The recent financial difficulties of the European league have put the project back on the table.

Without spectators for several months, some clubs in the Super League are experiencing serious financial difficulties and the competition as we know it could be in danger. The Australians like to be the center of the world but it would still be a big blow if they lost their opponents in the northern hemisphere. The NRL and the ARL have therefore launched studies to assess the feasibility of such a takeover.

As an air of deja vu, since the Super League, created by Rupert Murdoch in 1996, was both in England and Australia. A world club championship had even emerged. None of this, of course, if that were done, but it is obvious that the Australians would bring money and know-how. But this is really far from being done. There is a good chance that we will be rewriting the same article in 3 years.

Expertise - lol, have they seen how the NRL run the game in Australia?

Why don’t the more successful and rich NRL clubs invest in potential expansion super league franchises like a Manchester, Birmingham, London or Bristol etc like the Brisbane broncos did with the London broncos in the early 90’s?
