Well. By run I mean I'm going to waddle.

I really only support two charities. Beyond Blue and Diabetes Australia. I'll buy a daffodil and poppy and stuff but that's about it.

I support World Vision because they don't try to charity mug me and their representatives (in my experience) are polite and don't try to lay on a guilt trip (people who try and guilt trip me into support will find out it is an unsuccessful tactic, no matter how good I may think their cause). Plus I have very high regard for Tim Costello. I know I can trust an organisation he is in charge of. Had the privilege of meeting him a couple of times.

I figure it's a better approach to be picky and really support a couple of good charities than to spray my loose change around a heap of them.

I know I agree. I got approached once in Pitt St and the lady tried to get me into something - and she started off by saying "I'm not trying to sell you something... do you have a Plan?" I thought she was talking about a phone plan. Apparently, she was talking about the organisation 'Plan'.

http://www.plan.org.au/

At that point I told her I was already sponsoring a child in Africa throguh WC, yet she tried to get me to join Plan as well.

Didn't go down too well for her!

Cancer council is my charity of choice.

I donate via direct debit when I get paid each month and I conned my work into donating a lump sum to them at Christmas each year instead of buying gifts for our clients.

I also have a soft spot for the salvo's and I donate to them everytime I see them. I remember reading some accounts from the diggers who fought in kokoda saying that the salvo's would lug packets of biscuits, fresh water and medical supplies up the kokoda track to the front line through appalling conditions, just to give the diggers some relief.

They did this knowing that if they weren't killed in the fighting going on around them, then they could also be quite easily captured and killed by the Japanese anyway. The Japanese paid no attention to charity status and the salvos were treated the same as captured soldiers.

Any organisation with a history like that deserves my support.

I'm too broke for charities, but the ones I give to when I get a chance is Huntington's disease charities. Motherf**ker of a disease.

I was reading last night how type 1 diabetes takes about 20 years off your life.

Mid life crisis over here.

i'll give my time and not my money...

have regularly helped charities in their efforts, both giving care to those who need it, as well as collecting money through doorknocks etc..

at least then i know what i am donating is actually going to help people..

not particularly sure how rick astley would be considered as having a bad day TBH..

getting to groove around either on a stage or in double denim whilst having a funky bopping bartender who can perform backflips sounds like a great way to pass the time..

i recommend you try it before casting aspersions over the quality of his day..
