IMO, great cars - but if and/or when something goes wrong, it will cost an arm and a leg to get it repaired.

As a doctor, I'm sure money is not an issue - but do you feel comfortable throwing money down the drain, when a Japanese car will do all that the VW does, but with more reliability?

I'm happy to get a Japanese car, man. But I'd like something similar to the VW GTI. Stylish, small, 1.4-2.0L engine with Turbo. If there is something like that - I'd seriously look at it.

Manual or auto?

The new Kia Pro'ceed GT is getting race reviews. Small engine, turbo and manual only.

I love VW - I almost bought a Golf.

But the prices of their servicing, reliability issues (especially with DSG 'boxes) and cosy of spare parts put me off.

I ended up buying a 2014 Mazda 3 SP25 Astina, and I love it. It has paltry figures on paper, but the engine and transmission can really go, and the best part is that I use little fuel - I haven't filled up my tank for ten days.

There's also the Volvo V40 (but, again - European, and it is not without problems); the Polo GTi; the new Clio GT (sexy little car, that); and even the FIAT Punto Abarth.

Prefer auto, mostly due to the convenience of it.

Yeah, money isn't my biggest issue in that sense. I've got an Uncle who is a mechanic, so he looks after me in that aspect.

My cousin has a Mazda 6. Nice card, but to large to my liking. I want to get away from the full-size sedan. Want something a bit more compact, especially, considering when I get back I'll do be much more inner-city driving so I want something a bit smaller.

If Honda made a similar, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. I love my Honda Accord now, but it's not a 2003 model and starting to give a few issues, plus it's a V6 and rather expensive to upkeep given it's age.

There was this robbery in Guangzhou, the robber shouted to everyone: "All don't move, money belongs to the state, life belongs to you."
Everyone in the bank laid down quietly.
This is called "Mind Changing Concept --> Changing the conventional way of thinking".
-------------------------------------------------
When the robbers got back, the younger robber (MBA trained) told the older robber (who is only primary school educated), "Big bro, let's count how much we got", the older robber rebutted and said, "You very stupid, so much money, how to count, tonight TV will tell us how much we robbed from the bank!"
This is called "Experience --> nowadays experience is more important than paper qualifications!"
-------------------------------------------------
After the robbers left, the bank manager told the bank supervisor to call the police quickly. The supervisor says "Wait, wait wait, let's put the 5 million RMB we embezzled into the amount the robbers robbed".
This is called "Swim with the tide --> converting an unfavorable situation to your advantage!"
-------------------------------------------------
The supervisor says "It will be good if there is a robbery every month".
This is called "Killing Boredom --> Happiness is most important."
-------------------------------------------------
The next day, TV news reported that 100 million RMB was taken from the bank. The robbers counted and counted and counted, but they could only count 20 million RMB. The robbers were very angry and complained "We risked our lives and only took 20 million RMB, the bank manager took 80 million RMB with a snap of his fingers. It looks like it is better to be educated to be a thief!"
This is called "Knowledge is worth as much as gold !"
-------------------------------------------------
The bank manager was smiling and happy because his loss in the CINOPEC shares are now covered by this robbery.
This is called "Seizing the opportunity --> daring to take risks!"
-------------------------------------------------
Give a man a gun and he can rob a bank. Give a man a bank and he can rob the world.

You give entirely too much credit to these knuckle draggers.

When I get back from overseas, I want to buy a new car. Sick of my car now... I want something with a 1.4L-2.0L engine with a turbo. Something like the Volkswagen GTI's.

Anyone know anything about those cars? (or similar). They any good?

you are spoilt for choice in this segment at the moment...

my picks..

if money no problem:
- Merc AMG a45
- audi S1
- Volkswagen sirocco

if you're looking around golf gti range
- golf gti / r
- focus ST like senses mentioned
- Renault megane RS
- alfa Romeo guilietta cloverleaf

if you're looking entry level / warm hatch
- ford fiesta ST (easily best bang for buck.. Very nearly got one of these myself last year when i was shopping round
- volkswagen gti
- kia pro_ceed GT
- Renault clio RS

depending on which price bracket you are in, pick yourself one off that list and you won't be disappointed...

Cheers, Muz. You always seem to have good advice.

In honesty, I'm looking at that middle-range. The car I have now is still my first car and I'd like my next one to be a nice upgrade and last me a bit longer. I'm a "fan" nice cars and everything. Just don't know a whole lot about every model roaming the street - well, not as much as I used to. Time is a burden for me now.

Morning, Rhino.

VL commodore. You know it makes sense

Someone said to me, "You're Lebanese, buy toyota".

Mazda 3 MPS. Good cars. Little rockets, too.

Someone else suggested this to me. The only cars I'd probably stay away from are Holden/Ford. Never been their biggest fan.

Sorry, but to maintain the stereotype you are only allowed to buy either a Subaru WRX or a Nissan Skyline...

had one of the first series.. Great little thing, stupidly quick.. Didn't realise how much i loved that car till i felt a tear well in my eye as it drove off once i sold it..

but they haven't / aren't bringing one out in the latest shape.. Which is a shame as i really like the 2014 styled 3...

when i first saw them i checked to see if there was going to be an mps version and was going to hang off buying till it came out. But no plans for it yet..

sure..

1. Get designs drawn up by somebody else
2. Order materials from the cheapest supplier
3. Hire some illegal immigrants to work for under minimum wage
4. Sit back and smoke cigars
