I don't have a problem with this tax in theory as long as it only targets high income earners, people in more fortunate economic positions should be able to share a greater burden of economic responsibility.

and the tax system we have in place doesn't already do this? people earning more already pay a higher % of tax, not just purely more $ based on the same % applied to higher income as lower income..

plus you add in the recent private health rebate changes last year which also have an impact on those earning more and it's a double whammy on those earning more..

and in all honesty (and i'm going to get flamed for this, but i don't care) an $80k salary really isn't that much if you are the sole income earner for a family...

you want to look at a way to save $$ and fix the economy through making housing more affordable?

target negative gearing on property...

So essentially you have an issue with a politician....being a politician? Well so do I, they all stink. But what are you gonna do?

I have a problem with a politician being a liar and an inconsistent twat.

But yes - that seems to be most of them.

As a cricketer, left handers should be banned.
I bowled off spin and prior to the in swing, loved left handers

No it isn't, not with the cost of living in Australia. You can obviously live of it, but not particularly comfortably.

Not sure how you change the cost of living though. It doesn't seem to get brought up all that much in the Liberal parties ideas of slashing penalty rates for low income workers and blaming of the high wages in Australia for the decline of the manufacturing industry. If the COL is what it is surely it's better to have people making a wage where they can afford to live, rather than increasing the amount of people struggling to make ends meet.

If we're talking politics, amused me to see of all people Corey Bernardi apparently opposes the paid parental leave scheme. What a f**kwit that bloke is, advocates his "family values," attacks those outside the nuclear family ideal based on his christian beliefs etc but when there's an option for something that allows his views to be in a way enacted (that is, mothers able to stay at home for a longer period of time before going back to work) he wants to oppose it. Reminds me of the Keating speach that summed up the neoliberal conservative position - "you advocate families thinking you speak for them yet you don't advocate family support."

I'm not even particularly enamoured by this piece of legislation, but the hypocrisy of Bernarndi is pretty astounding.

Agreed, the museum is pretty cool though. The anchor and canon they found on the reef from Cooks boat when he needed to lighten the load on the ship after in ran aground is the highlight of the joint. I think they only found it in the late 70's yeah??
