I think the alleged part is pretty crucial there. Innocence before proven guilty and all that. The problem is you have lunatics like El Diablo essentially solely blaming the media for the game's image.
By middle ground I mean acknowledging it's ultimately the player's fault for being a complete f**king moron, that is obvious and anyone who denies this is just being dishonest. Still, it's a sorry state of affairs when a guy drinking his own piss is copping more than an alleged rapist and the media is more concerned about the former than the latter. I think you'd be naive to say the media don't play a major part too. Two wrongs don't make a right, so to speak.
Ashton is hard done by. He's never been the same since Clint Newton annihilated his face, but I've never thought of him as a bad player personally. I would have had him at Parra. Probably still would, although now we're going ok so he might not crack the side....
Even Perez Hilton and other media profiles are getting among it. I got a FB message from my relative in Arizona, saying "What did this Todd Carney guy do?"

You're smarter than this post. You know there are limits to how much the media can push a story that is being dealt with by the courts. The fact that it is a serious criminal matter means they can't go to town the way they can with a dickhead drinking piss.
f**k you Butch, you made me venture into the NRL section and read that
Sorry man
I thought it was a good example of the different views on this whole issue
Blame the media
Blame his mate who put it on social media
Blame society eg every young man does it so why treat Todd differently
Blame the raiders ( I don't get this one but some posters are trying to )
State it's not illegal so what's the issue
Let's not blame Todd. A guy who has now been sacked by every nrl club he has ever played for due to multiple incidents of bad behaviour.
Andrew Johns and co's defence that he's a too good a footy player to never play again just don't get it. The nrl just got a billion dollar broadcasting deal. Like it or not it's a brand and every player club and official is a representative of that brand. I can assure you if I was on social media pissing in my mouth my company would promptly sack me. I get that Lui is still playing and quite frankly he should have been banned too.
I don't give a shit about AFL and if they choose to have teams full of criminals. I care about our game and quite frankly our game will be a better one without Todd and his antics.
It's their call if they want Todd at their club or not. Personally, I would've thought a hefty fine and suspension would've done the trick, but that's their call. He's a repeat offender and he's obviously learned nothing.
Saying he was sacked because of the image of the game is a bit rich. I'd prefer an image of dickheads than wife beaters.
The next story after Carney was Reni Maitua walking out of court...that was a great image.
If the sharks didn't terminate his contract the NRL would of
I don't think wife beaters should be playing for the NRL either
We as a code can't say to sponsors and broadcasters pay us a billion but we are going to allow players who piss in their mouths to play in our comp. That said this was the straw that broke the camels back
Tariq leaving becomes clear, Ashton is off to kill blokes in England.
We're leaking like a sieve at the moment, hope these are the changes we need.
