My exploits list would be a lot longer if I was ever able to bat and bowl well at the same fking time

I used to hate that retiring rule. I was a bloody good bat as a kid and always had to retire, so I started just trying to get there as fast as I could. Until recently I struggled to bat a long innings and I still sometimes find it hard to switch into a scoring mode if I come in and need to consolidate and I think not batting long innings from the start (partly due to my attitude, granted) has a bit to do with that.

Of course, the assumption when I moved into senior cricket that an opening bowler must be a tail ender also didn't help. That bloke was such a useless captain lol. One game I knocked out 40 odd in a 15 over stand with the number six, batting 10. Next week? Batted eleven.....

Our captain is also our opening bowler. He cannot bat for shit, but puts himself at 4 most weeks, although this week he dropped down the order - to 5. I can bat solidly in the middle order (out of 8 innings this year, I've been not out 4 times and only failed to hit double figures once) and don't bowl, so of course this week I was 11...

The best part of that season was I scored 400 odd runs, only batted above 9 about twice, and was the second highest run scorer in the side and the eleventh highest in the entire club

Maybe I should go back to the tail, now that I think about :sarcasm:

I played a season of churches cricket because my neighbour at the time was looking for players to make up a team. First game I top scored from 10. By 3 games in I had been promoted to opener. It was the most frustrating comp in the world though because in the 1 day games you had to retire at 40. You could come back when all the other wickets had fallen. So many times I'd retire with the team at 0/60 odd and then id resume at 9/90 odd and be in with the number 10 or 11. I made about 6 40's that year and never got to 50.

Besides, being church cricket, sometimes id have to give up the opener's gig because it was someone's birthday and they wanted to open.

Best ever was when I took 4 wickets in an over and wasn't allowed a second over because "you've taken enough wickets now, give someone else a go".

Needless to say, one season of that rubbish was enough for me.

I know right? Two years ago when I came back I was supposed to bat middle order and bowl a bit, but first game two quicks pulled out so I wound up opening the bowling and getting through 9 overs as the most experienced. I expected the shoulder pain, but f**k my life my quads were agony....

so decided to walk to work tomorrow, just for something different..

about 2hrs... Will leave home around 6am..

so, should i take my ipod for company, starting the day with the dulcet tones of disturbed, karnivool & slipknot?

or should i go sans ipod and savour the early morning sounds along the way?

Negative. The sounds of the devil from those bands listed will lead to an angry day.

Savour the sounds of inner-city Melbourne Muz.

Karnivool are less offensive than Disturbed and Slipknot tbh.

Bought a new guitar strap (havent had one in years) and guitar lead today, that's been fun.

karnivool = favourite band ever.

saw them 10 years ago as a support act, knew they were awesome and latched on..

have seen them live over 20 times.. Been a couple of average gigs in that time, but the good gigs certainly outweigh the negatives...

think that has just settled my ipod query..

will listen to the early morning bird songs till i hit main traffic, then throw on the ipod and listen to sound awake.. If i have time will start on themata*..

*a highly recommended album... If you like your rock but haven't heard this, in the words of molly: do yourself a favour^..

^or get someone to hold the ladder..
