Went along last night.

Weird game. Souths were all over them in general play, looked really good with ball in hand. Then they went down 6-0. Got back up, playing well, then that kick from reynolds gets plucked and it's 10-0. Then that play off the kick off was great rugby league, just unfolded perfectly.

Even from that point Souths looked good for a while with the ball in hand, looked dangerous (although not much when they were actually in the opposition 20). Brisbanes defence was good, Souths just couldn't break through. Then when they put in what was a very good defensive set (tackle three, still in their own 10) Luke gives away a dumb shoulder charge penalty and that's that.

Unfortunately, because I despise them, Brisbane looked really good. Their defence on their line was strong even if they give away a few metres in general play. Milford was incredible last night.

Souths were playing Walker at fullback, which was interesting, he certainly looked dangerous taking the ball back but didn't slot in to attack that well.

Souths are missing Burgess and Teo big time from last year though, their defence in the middle was so sluggish.

I agree.

We were the better team for the entire first half. We dominated the possession and the field position and were making ground with ease. We just couldn't find the try line.

The first two tries were completely against the run of play. There is no way we deserved to be down 22 - nil. We scored about 10 minutes before half time and then had a couple of very strong sets leading in to the break where we just couldn't quite find the line. At half time, I actually felt fairly confident that we would mount some kind of come back. I knew the Broncos had a torrid game against the Roosters the week before and that they'd made more tackles than us at that point. I thought that if we continued in the same vein as the first half, we would start to crack them eventually.

Then I saw how Souths came out of the tunnel. Rather than jogging out to take their positions on the field, they sort of ambled out. Heads down, no chat. They looked exactly the way they did when they ambled back into the tunnel 40 odd minutes later.

From that point on, I knew the game was going to get ugly.

If the Warriors lose their remaining two matches, Manly lose their last, the Dragons lose their last two by big margins and Parra win our last two by big margins then we'll finish in the top 8.

Seems likely.
