My sixteen year old brother left home today to attend school in Canberra.

Can't say I think he has the commitment or self-motivation to do it without encouragement, but as the black sheep of the family, I can't really blame him for wanting to do something different.

Yep. Could handle Speights of the cheap beers, but when there are Monteith's and some of the Mac's, plus other craafts around the place there's not much point to the cheapest ones.

Also, I drank Coopers for the first time in an age last night, nice to have a good beer that isn't also overwhelmingly alcoholic ala American beers (which are damn good but leave me wrecked in no time).

@Bazal (or anyone else) good areas to live in Canberra? Looking within 10 km of the CBD as I'm working in there. Got a few places im keeping an eye on in Macquarie, Bruce, Griffith, Hackett. i everywhere basically fine though?

Trying to find some trade off before not unreasonable rent and avoiding driving as much as possible, although have heard bad things about public transport.

Turner, Braddon, O'Connor, Watson, are all good, but pricey. Cheaper is southside, around Woden as muzby said. Do you want a house or an apartment?

braddon thru to anslie / Dickson is not a bad bet..

essentially Canberra is divided up into major regions, so Bruce etc is Belconnen and is essentially the burbs..

if you are happy to go a bit more suburban, look 10k south of the city and go woden area..

I'd say avoid Dickson. Often very pricey for reasonably run down property

Another one gone.....Jimmy Bain, bass player from Rainbow and Dio. 68 years old. RIP Jimmy.

Very pleased I'm not a muso in my late 60s.

If you believe in forever

Then love is just a one night stand

If there's a rock and roll heaven

You know they have a hell of a band.

Yay, invasion day!

Sick to death of that. My fb fees these days is a constant stream of manufactured outrage due to the same 4 or 5 people reposting articles focusing on how they are offended over something that really is not a part of their everyday life. It's exhausting just looking at it, let alone living it.

I mean, yeah, I get it. Posting 44 articles a week about it, each one paraphrasing the last? Sod off.

It's not even particularly accurate. January 26 was the founding of the colony at Port Jackson. Hardly an invasion, that came much later.

More accurate would be filthy bogan day, unfortunately. Jingoism always seems to override national pride on Australia Day
