Swann retires

What the fudge. They're dropping like flies, bunch of pathetic cowards really.

Look at him feed the BS that "this might have been my last tour anyway" and "its not fair on the other boys". What a load of crap, he'd be lapping it up grinning and gloating merrily if England were up 3-0. Wants to preserve his numbers and reputation, and is bailing.

I'm starting to feel a little sorry for Cook actually, he's going to wear all the criticism and his troops are jumping ship on him.

lol @ swann what a soft merkin

he is either knows his record will get dented if he continues on OR he was told he was gonna be dropped for Panasar for Melbourne test. Either way weak as piss ,just like the rest of them

So many blokes averaging mid to late 40s in their side getting belted like they have never played the game before. Jimmy Anderson is next, he is heading for a breakdown

At least the Athertons, Goughs and Caddicks of the old days just copped it on the chin and kept trying, this new set of 'champions' are weak and useless.

Heck look at Tino Best today, been playing since 2003, averages 40 with the ball and usually gets belted to kingdom come.

And yet today he charged in hard and bowled at 140 giving it 100% no matter how useless he or the situation was. Don't see him retiring tomorrow, he'd ask for the ball and sprint in again.

Mate no offence but Tino Best is hardly any comparison He is bog standard. Blair Pocock was also a determined character same as Mark Priest. Best is a gym room boofhead who tries to pretend he's an angry powerhouse to cover up many deficiencies. Swann is a champion over a long period, Best is a never was never will be gym rat with an angry face.

 None taken!

Of course Best is nothing in comparison, in fact that highlights my point more. He's nowhere near as talented as Swann and I didn't claim he was. He deserves to average 40. Yet the point is I don't see him throwing in the towel in the middle of a bad tour.

The point I am making is that Swann is still a good bowler despite a couple of bad tests and still has more to offer England at the age of only 34. If he was going to retire he could have at least announced it early or at least seen off this tour.

Running away halfway through and 3-0 down? He sounds like a wet blanket to me.

You'd hope so given they've trashed your mob 3 series in a row.

This series has been a disaster but let's not forget that this is relatively the same team as the one that has won 3 Ashes series in a row, including a mind boggling 3 innings victories last time out here.

So lets not be silly by judging them purely on this shambolic series.

You absolutely can judge them on this series, they were favourites to win and to capitulate in such a fashion is quite surprising.

Fair enough.

It's just funny how quickly peoples opinions can change.

Two months ago Mitchell Johnson was the most despised Aussie cricketer in recent memory; and had been so for a couple of years.

Now he's a national hero!

David Warner isn't far behind in that respect. After his overhyped batting and his off-field antics he was called a peaheart who gave his wicket away too easily. Now he's a borderline Australian icon up there with Ned Kelly.

It's amazing the difference one test series can make on both sides of the coin.

Less than a year ago this same England team dominated in India, winning the series. A month later Australia went there and got murdered. England were the brave and Australia the pea hearts.

12 months on England are cowards and Australia the marauding warriors who give their fans wet dreams courtesy of their endless aggression and bravery.

Well sort of. They aren't playing a heap different to the home series against us. Our batting has been at a whole different level though, meaning our bowling has had something to bowl at, and we've profited. Anderson struggled after bowling beautifully in Nottingham (although I don't think he's been as bad as his figures suggest), Swann has struggled on pitches not prepared for him and their batting has been worse, but only slightly worse than what it was in England. Biggest difference is Bell hasnt played as well as he did, otherwise their averages were down to start with.

It's certainly shocking to have them thrashed in this manner, but the writing was on the wall in England.

I know he's gonna cop a lot for this but imo, I feel that it is a good decision that he has made. England need a change and with the ashes gone, they can start in the next test to find their next spinner.

Good decision imo as he's definitely on the decline.

So soft though...if this was his 'last tour' the mummy's boy should have not toured! If you tour you fight from test 1 to test 5. It is a honour to play for your country, treat it like one...first Trott now Swann...who is next to take the easy option...Prior is probally the odds on favourite...but tanty boy Anderson might feel 'sore' and go home to mummy!

This would have to be one of the worst tours for a side that I can remember.
Came here massive favorites, are down 3 nil, 2 players now left the squad. The captain cannot set a decent field if he was given another set of 11 players to place in the field. No batters other then Bell or stoke getting decent runs.
I'm not sure who they have after they leave Australia but I'm whoever it is will be sending a Christmas card to Michael clarke and Boof saying thanks.

Soft. Probably would have been dropped anyway and that's probably why he quit, but should have hung around and made the announcement after the series. Having another senior player jump ship mid series will further damage the morale of the squad you would think and make it that much harder to avoid a whitewash. I have no sympathy though. Couldn't happen to a nicer cunch of bunts than the English.

2 down with Prior, KP and jimmy next on the list. There will be only Cook and Bell left after this tour lol. Massive fall coming for the soap dodgers.
