was thinking hayne, tahu, grothe would make a deadly back 3 combo. of course we would need to fill tahu's centre spot i'm not sure who with?
i think as a winger he could go looking for the ball a bit more and create a good platform from our own half. plus he is safe under the high ball.

thoughts?

I think he is a better winger than a centre, but we cant drop our top point scorer and I would prefer a fit Guru on the other wing.

I think he has to play centre at Parra.

When he came to the club in 2005 I was hoping he would play wing because at the time he was the best in the world.

The mentality that centre is a 'better' position than wing is both childish and dated, and I always roll my eyes (like this  ) when I read a winger wants to play centre, to the point of leaving his club for the chance to do so.

I'd say if anything wing is a more attacking position than centre.

But now, I think Tahu is better suited to centre. His bulk and aggression is suited to defending closer to midfield, and will probably hinder his ability to cover kicks (in much the same way it's always been Grothe's biggest weakness).

Plus I think Tahu runs good lines and he can set up his supports well.

If we had the halves to know how to use him, then he'll be more important in the centres.

We should play him like how the drags plays gasnier.

Give him early ball with space to take on the defense one on one.

Not use him as a ruck machine

Good point.

One quality of good organisers is that they know when to run to the line, and when to just catch and pass.

If Kearney puts him on the wing he would walk out on the club and then talk about how he was abused for years.
Wouldn't drop Burt of Grothe for him anyway.

Narh i think centre is a better position for Tahu, Escpecially now that he is used to deffending putting him on the wing he would always come up and in. as he does from centre. the difference is centre has cover defenders.

Despite Burty's lack of size and his sometimes questionable ability under the high ball (Burty, I love ya, matey!), I think a back three of Hayne, Grothe and Burt is fine the way it is. It gives us variety - the pure power of Grothe; the agility and speed of Burt; and the freakish combination of both of Hayne.

If Hayne and Burty work together to combine better on kick returns, we will reap massive benefits - imagine Hayne returning a kick, getting gang-tackled by three defenders and popping an offload to a flying Luke Burt, who shoots straight through the gap. If Burty doesn't score, he'll at least make ground and get our set off to a good start.

Burt is an invaluable part of this team IMO. He just needs to be used correctly.

You don't weaken one position to strengthen another.... especially when centre is a more important position than the wing. Tahu is a great finisher, but having him on the wing doesn't solve any problems unless you've a creative centre inside of him. It's just a waste otherwise. He needs to limit the agression and selfishness in his game for next year. He has no issues looking for the ball.

That's it. I don't get the Burt hate. What he lacks in stature he makes up for in other ways. He is small, doesn't make metres in general play. But he can kick a 40/20, a field goal, a sideline conversion. And he can sniff out a try when it's on. How many times do we see him chase a kick and score when no other play would even think about it. His anticipation is second to none. I could write a list of plays Burt's come up with the past couple of years no other winger would even think of attempting.

Couldnt agree more, ive been insulted on this forum in the past for saying that i believe Burt is one of the top wingers in the NRL.

I think Tahu is a great centre. However, if Kearney adopts a similar play to Bellamy, Tahu's style wont suit. Melbourne love hole running centres and Tahu loves to get one on one with his man, get on the outside, suck in the opposite winger and open his up.

I may be a little bit biased, but I didnt think Tahu was as bad as people made out. His worst game IMO was the City vs Country match.

as it is, we're one first grade centre short because the apparent long term injury to Reddy, putting T there would make life very interesting for SK trying to find a couple of centres to play fg.

I agree. I think his on-field brain explosions and off-field dramas may be tainting people's opinions. That, and the fact we were all expecting him to do very well and he didn't quite meet the bar we set. But I agree - he wasn't that bad IMO.

What a load of rubbish. Burt NEVER gets the set of six off to a good start. He gets dominated every time he runs the ball from a kick return scoot/hitup. That's a fact. Have a look at his stats for 2010 & tell me otherwise.

How about giving a yound winger a chance who has size; will contest & take high balls; doesn't get dominated on kick returns + have the speed & agility. Having a few good qualities for a winger doesn't cut it these days - you need to possess a skill in all of them - granted you'll be better in some than others - but Burt is non-existent under the high ball & his metres gained on kick returns are DOMINATED. Therefore he is letting the team down in those very important areas. Think Kearney will be demanding a lot more discipline in those areas.
