tahu to the wing

I`d give Grothe the arse and shift Tahu.

Rubbish. Grothe is a much better winger. Big strong & fast. He does so much work coming out of our defensive end & gets the set of six rolling. Burt does not offer this. Grothe was one of Parra's best players in the 2009 final series & was sorely missed in 2010. If we did get Tonga who probably like to play on the left where Tahu plays.

The only one of our outside backs I'd stick in the back-row is Tahu. Someone else mentioned (maybe in this thread?) he thinks Tahu could play in the wide back-row spot vacated by Mateo and I agree.

Grothe doesn't have the workrate or the defence to play anywhere but wing, and Reddy is just too lean.

But we have enough back-rowers (especially with Maitua on his way). A few people have commented that we have too many outside backs but both Reddy and Grothe are unlikely to be ready for round 1, and four of them are in their 30s next year - there's bound to be some injuries.

Remember, Inu started the year as our number 5 outside back yet he ended up playing 21 games. Even Jono Wright (essentially our 6th choice outside back) started in 7 matches.

Evereybody will get a game next year. Hopefully the better players will spend more time on the field than injured/suspended/playing Origin

I dont think Tahu has the confidence or the work rate to play in the forwards. He isn't what I would call a worker.

Gee Tahu wasn't that bad this year. Basically he had no assistance from the his halves and I didn't see any really attempts to get him one on one with his oposite player. One on one Tahu will win 99% of the time. I am sure Kearney has no plans to move him from centre and is licking his lips knowing he has a centre that can "break tackles" and is very dangerous when placed in a one on one player situation.

I will guarantee you Kearney will be working on some structured plays to get Tahua one on one.

Also Reddy is a good player but he is not in the same attacking league as Tahu

You don't need to be a worker playing in one of the wide back-row positions. Especially because there's a back-rower on the bench waiting to give you a rest.

Besides, Tahu made over 20 tackles 3 times this year. And the guy can hit - f**ken POW!!!!

Good post.

The few times Tahu was given some space this year he showed he's still one of the best in the game. And the rest of the time he hooked in anyway.

In would like to see Tahu in the forwards, proving his tough guy image against the like of Gallen , Watmough, etc etc. I don't reckon he is man enough though.

To those asking, next year Jarryd Hayne will presumably be second-choice goal-kicker, assuming we don't sign anyone else.
Only reason Hayne doesn't do goal-kicking at the moment is because he has always had Inu and Burt in front of him, now that Inu is gone if Burt gets injured or is moved out of the side then Hayne will be our goal-kicker too.

For those worried, apparently he is a good goal-kicker; the good thing is that we don't have a problem with the boot, as a couple other young players at our club (Daniel Mortimer, Brad Murray, etc) can also goal-kick.

hayne could kick i remember taylor saying he was a great kicker but struggled in games i think he has matured since then. murry morts orford (if he sign's?) so burt would have to earn his spot.

whilst some of you think that we have an abundance of outside backs at the club, we don't have a back up centre of fg experiance and T and Reddy are the only ones there which is why we've been linked to Graham and Tonga, if Reddy's runoured injury is true than we'll be in a spot of bother from the word go if we're not already without a decent 7.

Both our wingers - Grothe and Burt - were brilliant (playing totally different roles) in the 2009 final series. I think Burt is the better player, though. Grothe does a lot of 'work' running the ball back and barging into the opposition. He`s also good at barging over close to the opposition line. But that`s it. I can`t remember the last time he actually made a break, or was put through a break. It`s wing he`s supposed to be playing, you know. Most of what he does could be done by a second rower. Just an opinion, so don`t get all narky about it; but I think Grothe has been terribly over-rated for much of his career. Last year, I admit, he was terrific. But he`s had a lot of mediocre years and has made a lot of terrible errors. He has a famous name, too. ;-)

Mate sorry to say that Grothe overshadowed Burt by a long way in 2009 especially in the final series. That's not my opinion that's a fact.

In my opinion Burt has had 10 years of mediocre years. That's only my opinion.

It wasn't an opinion it's a fact. Can't you get your head around that. All the experts were praising his efforts during that time & I couldn;t agree more with them. You must have been asleep for whole 09 final series. By the way Parra made the 09 GF but were unfortunately beaten if you only just woke up.

If you weren't asleep you'll tell me Burt was better won't you????

Agree again with you SB. Grothe's contribution is not noticed, he gets yards out of dummy-half and gives the forwards a platform. Big mobile wingers are invaluable. Sure he has issues with his hands and in defence but he has worked on that stuff. Ask the rep coaches if they had a choice between Grothe and Burt and they will all choose the Guru every day of the week. We missed him in 2010 and Inu was pathetic this year
