I've heard that Hunt thinks he's doing the right thing because the hears the crowd yell "You f**king mongrel" ever time he concedes a penalty.

Cagey, please don't help to perpetuate this myth, you're better than that.
The stats don't support the view that Dan is a penalty magnet.
Criticise him all you want for legitimate reasons, but this simply isn't true.

Penalised Dragons in 2014

Hunt 5 (in 4 games)
Rein 5 (in 5 games)
Merrin 4
Stanley 3 (in about 3 minutes of gametime)
DeBelin/Thompson/Creagh/Farrell 2
A bunch on 1

our most penalised player in terms of penalties per game played is Dan Hunt .. the stats support this. However in penalties per minute played young Stanley isn't looking too flash.

Where do these stats come from? They contradict some others I've seen.
Not saying you're wrong, just interesting to see the discrepancies.

What are the stats if you take out the last game which was a stitch up.

Surprised to see Stanley so highly involved in the penalty count.

Pick a different source, get a different number. The official NRL website has Hunt at 3 in total, with Merrin credited for 3 in the game against Souths alone.
Just out of interest, Tariq Sims credited with 7 for the season thus far.
Lies, damned lies and statistics. Pick a source to support your own bias I suppose.

Screw the stats,it's usually the same players doing the same sh*t,i know when Hunt tackles a player I keep saying get off him Dan,but alas it's too late.

Quite a few relevant posts here
I use NRL stats too and sometimes others but the empirical evidence is there every time you watch a game. Hunt's red ink invariably cancels out most of the black if not all.
Rein and Stanley have a little more excuse as they defend closer to the ruck and offside penalties often are prevalent. Rein and Merrin both have much higher tackle counts than Hunt so their counts are somewhat mitigated.
Jenninga's last post rings home as I have the same experience time and again. Hunt get's penalised because he consistently pushes the envelope. He gets away with more than he's pinged for but ref's are wising up. Much if it is tardiness if not laziness.

Yeah, agreed.
Quite often when there are 2 defenders, Hunt will be the last one up, trying to slow the play the ball. In theory, its fine, he just does it too often, and I think, being sceptical, ref's have earmarked Hunt for this. Very similar to Jason Ryles in the refs eyes. Any 50-50 call went against Ryles.

Can't believe there are people defending Hunt...don't get me wrong, I'd LOVE to view him as a valuable member of the team, but he offers nothing that most of our younger forwards don't do 10 times better, and certainly nothing to justify his seemingly unquestionedable spot as starting prop...

Fair enough. Anyway, I've given up on trying to inject facts into discussions around here. It seems to be a waste of time. I promise it will never happen again. From now on I will just go with the flow and the 'vibe'.

I now accept the following -
- Doust gets Premiership T shirts printed in his spare time.
- Price said Kyle would be his starting half.
- Rangi is on a plane, somewhere.
- We regularly underspend our cap.
- Doust, Price, Young, any number of our players, support staff, ballboys and cheerleaders are crap. They're all crap. Unmitigated crap.
- We are the worst run club, eva.
- Our membership numbers are less than half of what they were, or should be, or something.
- Photos of Price prove that he has lost control of the dressing room and doesn't demand respect.
- Price has no chin (this one is in fact irrefutable).
- Doust is the worst CEO, eva.
- I am a more passionate supporter because I believe all of the above.

I'm one of the gang now.

How come I don't feel better? Why aren't I happy being unhappy?

It's not my intention mate

I actually looked up the stats because I was so frustrated by Dan's tardiness in the tackle area. As you know, if you're good at it, you can earn extra seconds for your team to get on side. Hunt has been getting caught regularly.

His impact this year is yet to be significant so IMO he's perhaps not earned his starters role.
I'd favour Stockwell and Cooper or De Belin on return and Cooper over Dan Hunt. A penalty free game or two, would, IMO, lift his value to the team.
