Team 20 - Who? Adelaide or Queensland 5?

Looking back and forward, it's all pretty obvious what the NRL want.

17 was always Redcliffe
18 PNG
19 Perth
20 NZ SI
21 Ipswich

After that who knows, but Adelaide, Melbourne 2, Fiji and Wellington will probably put their hand up.

I would venture to say that Adelaide AND Wellington both have strong cases - one means we have a team in NZ's 3 biggest cities and the other means we have all the Australian cities that have at least 1 million population.

If competition size & depth is a concern, moving the Tigers to Wellington would help rationalize Sydney, make for a 3rd NZ team (Assuming one of he Christchurch bids is in), and put less pressure on the talent pool.

I can't see a team ever moving from Sydney's unless they choose to.

Yeah, I was probably more putting it out there as a "what if" scenario more then a "this should happen".

There's no willingness for clubs or the NRL to consider relocation, and with the grant pretty much taking care of all then there's no financial pressure to - unless some massive "black swan event" puts one club on a very unsteady footing.

However with Perth, PNG & NZ 2 looking like they're those next 3.. then Adelaide, NZ 3, Brisbane 3, Fiji, Melbourne 2, and where-ever else will need to jostle for teams 21 & 22 (or teams 21-24).

I haven't seen any indication from the NRL they want to do this, and even if they do then there may well be NRL fans & media personalities coming up with the "but.. we have truly terrible teams at the bottom of the table AS IT IS" argument against going past 20 teams once we're at 20 teams.

The name of the thread is wishful thinking, there is currently no Adelaide or stand alone Wellington bid, orcas used to be but they were always going to roam around the south island aswell as be based in Wellington, now they are Chch based, with roam around lower North island and south island, besides unless the South Australian govt wants in on NRL, there won't be any private investment getting a licence

maybe adelaidegreens can be the private investor for adelaide? he seems to be the be-all and end-all of expanonista experts on here. must be flush with cash and strategy to boot.
