Team 2025

Pryce looks a step behind.
Jones isn't a centre so that's weird.
Cant can be good imo. Where are our big players? It sounds basic but we look small compared to teams running edges like Kelma.
I only saw the 2nd half due to footy training but I was thinking the same thing. We looked much smaller across the park compared to Parra

Can we PLEASE just go back to when trials were trials and not content for Foxtel/Kayo. The commentary was laughable for a game that means absolutely nothing! Carrying on like it was a premiership game for points, with half the starting squad missing, is so f**king cringe!

BTW, that goes for all you idiots who are carrying on like we fielded our best side and got flogged. IT'S A f**kING TRIAL, NOT A PREMIERSHIP GAME! There were combos we would never actually put in 1ST grade out there, guys who will NEVER play a 1ST grade game. Get some f**king perspective FFS!

Get a f**king grip!

My overall opinions from the game:

Negatives:
- Obviously the defence which is the main one. Probably need to put into perspective when the score blew out though.
- Cogger. Mostly concerning because leading into this game looks like he was first choice halfback. If we’re locked on Sharpe at 6 who’s still learning to defend there we can’t have a defensive liability in the other halves position.
- Fullback depth. Suddenly a concern. Pryce clearly isn’t up to it and Votano is too young. Sharpe needs to stay in the halves if that’s the plan.
- tbh I don’t see a lot of potential in R. Jones, Cant or McCarthy.
- Hetherington. Enough said. I keep hoping that everything will eventually come together for him as he does have talent, but today was pure Simple Jack.

Positives:
- Loved seeing us actually spread the ball in attack. We looked dangerous every time we actually held the ball despite execution not being great. Great sign considering how long it usually takes us to get going. I hope AOB doesn’t get cold feet though due to the result and goes back to a conservative game plan. This is one of my biggest concerns.
- Gamble. The whole attack clicked when he came on. Should be halfback.
- Brailey - looked fit and sharpe.
- Marzhew - looks fit.
- Friz in the middle.
- KPP on the right.
- A few of our junior prospects look very good even if not ready for FG yet. I was very impressed with McEwen particularly.
- Matt Arthur seems to have a lot more promise than I expected. Tbh I thought he was a bit of a dud but I might have been reading into the Eels fan hate too

Overall some negatives and positives and I don’t think says much about the upcoming season one way or another. If our defence is just as bad in the second trial when we have more FG combinations I’ll be more concerned. I feel like we didn’t really get to see enough of Sharpe at 6 to say for certainty if it will work or not, but there’s definitely promise there.

I think people who have a clue understand trials are very different to premiership games. They are called “trial” for a reason, try stuff out, and get some match fitness.
Plenty of people with no clue will take the results as a definite indicator of the teams hopes for the season.
Look at the game on now, Dolphins lost to a QLD cup team last week and are now flogging the Cowboys.

8 schooners and the loss of a friend can make you a tad emotional.

BTW, can some tell me how you react to posts? I can't find how to anywhere.

ahhhh mate I’m sorry to hear that.

re the reactions: I usually post from my phone where you hold down the ‘like’ button and the reactions will pop up (not sure from webpage).

Pros
Frizzell looks a beast in the middle. Good move.
KPP looking for the offload on every carry, another good move.
Brailey looking slimmer and more mobile? Hope he can stay fit all season.
Sharpe looking Sharp.
Arthurs looks a better hooker than Crossland. Don't know if he is a better player overall but it was good to see someone who knows how to play the position get a go.
Marzhew looks solid.
Probably missing some stuff.
Gamble is a player we need in the 13 week in week out. Isn't the most polished player but he isn't going to die wondering.

Cons
Cogger and Hastings. The debate is over.
Jacko needs to step up. If JSaf and Leo are injured for long periods, it's going to be horrible for us.
Defense and attitude overall.

Only a trial but more negatives than positive. We got pounded by the wooden spooners.
Doesn't look like more negatives than positives Yosh ;)

It was your typical trial. Very few sides chase scores in trials. It is about process. But if you are all starting to gloom it already then you are going to hurt yourselves. Cheer up. We have seen this all before.
