To be honest I can see some flaws in that team.

For finals football you need experience, craig smith has heaps of that. Plus just before he got injured his form was improving. Also he'll be fresh and injury free when he returns.

Carmont needs to be in the team. He has far more experience then tighe and carmonts in great form.

Having kidley at lock is a huge mistake. You can;t just throw him in lock first week of the finals. He needs an off season and pre season training to be able to learn the role of a lock, also he needs more size to be in that position.

Brown shouldn't be in the team imo. He's badly injured and kidley would make a good bench player.

Also I'd have gidley at 3, carney at 2, carmont at 4 and quinn at 5. That's where they have been playing all year you'll find.

Why do you need experience in finals football? That's a load of rubbish that people say to defend older players. Did the Tigers need more experience last year? Is Craig Bellamy thinking "Gee, Inglis is going great, but I don't think I can risk him in finals football"? If you're good enough, you're old enough.

Kidley doesn't need any time to play lock. It's quite a simple instruction - run a bit more, pass and kick a bit less, keep up your enthusiasm, tackle like crazy and pop up around the ruck in attack. 5-8th to lock is hardly 2nd row to wing, they are very similar positions anyway.

If Brown is injured he shouldn't be in the team. If he's not injured I beleive he should be in the team, that's just my opinion.

Oh no, if Gidley has the 4 not the 3 he might have a schocker!! Please, that last point was just ridiculous

Considering his entire career is built around his effectiveness at putting a man away on his outside on the right, it's a bit stupid.

No it isn't! Why would you swap a guy to the other side of the field when he's played all his life at right centre? Glad you aren't coaching the team, you'd be putting Thaiday into the front row!

As for Kidley, why you'd put him in lock at the expense of our tackling machine Reno is beyond me. Atleast Kirt has the size to play there, Kidley would be run at all night and trodden into the ground.

Kidley will be a bit of a worry. I think the team needs his tackling ethic but there just isnt a spot for him on the team. Mullen has cemented his spot at five-eight, Carmont and Gidley are the centres due to form and the fullback position is going to be occupied by either Thaiday or Seage. Reynoldson seems to be the one for the lock-forward position but if he is not 100% for the first finals game i would not mind playing Kidley there.

I just think he will be a waste on the bench.

Talk about jumping to conclusions! Try reading what I actually said.
Which part says "swap the centre/wing combinations to the other side of the field", or "i think Gidley would be better on the left of the field" ????????????

I simply put up a team I would like to see with numbers next to them to get the general idea of their positions. Then someone tried to make a big deal out of it. Obviously I know Gidley and Carney play on the right side, but getting all high and mighty becuase I had a '4' next to his name instead of a '3' is just petty.

That's kind of a silly notion. Left centre is a completely different position to right centre - you can't really just put the different numbers there to 'get a general idea' of positions. It's similar to putting a number one next to Carney and saying 'oh its generally the same idea - he still catches bombs...'.

Wow you guys all smoke the same drugs I see.
Ever read a Big League? I guarantee you that some players listed as the number 3 will sometimes actually be the left centre for their side, and sometimes the number 5 will actually be the right winger.

Giving a player the 3 or 4 clearly shows you have him in the centres, and giving him the 2 or 5 clearly shows you have him on the wing. Since we all obviously know which sides of the field the Knight's outside backs play on, I don't think it's a big controversy to have inadvertently listed my team like this:

1. Thaiday
2. Quinn
3. Carmont
4. Gidley
5. Carney

If you can't work out what that means then your powers of deduction are terrible. And if you are going to become that pedantic, why don't we go back and start talking about the millions of spelling and grammatical errors in posts? Seriously, get over it.....

Who do you mean? Are you saying Kurt Gidley should play lock, and change his name to Kirt? Oh I'm just so confused. Perhaps you mean Kirk Reynoldson? Why would you change their names? I'm glad you aren't the editor of the match day program, you'd be putting the fullback as Minton Thalday!

Don't be so pedantic, it will come back and bite you on the ass.

You have nothing!

Did you even read it? It clearly proves that you made a big deal out of what was a very small thing, and that if we were going to over-analyse every little "mistake" then it would just become a nightmare.

So what if I had Gidley in the number 4? It wasn't hard to realise what I meant, just as it wasn't hard for me to realise you meant Kirk Reynoldson even though you spelled it wrong.

Rather than having nothing, it seems that I have too much, to the point that it's easier for you to not even bother countering any of my arguments.

Hilarious.

A spelling mistake and mis-numbering player positions are two different things.

Build a bridge and get over it.

It's not mis-numbering positions. I didn't call the number 1 a forward or the number 6 a hooker, i put the 3 and 4 as centres which they are.

3 does not actually mean "right centre" and 4 does not actually mean "left centre". They just happen to be what Gidley and Carmont wear in our team, but it's common for this to be the other way around.

Petty? You had gidley playing in the number 4, which means he would be on the other side of the field. I can't remember the last time if ever a number 4 played on the right side of the field wearing a knights jersey. Throw in the fact you had the other 3 outside backs with the wrong numbers on there back. All I can go by is with what you wrote. Why was I meant to assume you wrote down the wrong thing. Maybe you believed the outside backs are on the wrong side of the field. I can only go by what you wrote.

To quote paul harragon before the 2001 grand final "marquet playing with over 200 games experience on the bench means a lot" Wests were the exeption to a team winning without much finals football, however to combat the lack of finals football played by a number of the players they had plenty of rep players which are just as important; hodgson, skandalas, marshal, prince, moody etc. A team without players who have finals experience can often struggle to come to grips with the speed of the game and are known for making errors which they normally wouldn't make. Players with finals experience is important and smith to name one is a vital part of our team come semi finals.

Kidley can not play in the forwards now. As I said he's to small, has no experience playing lock forward and reynoldson is in good form.

How many times do I have to point out that the numbers 3 and 4 do not actually correspond with a specific side of the field in rugby league?

Every club is different, it wouldn't even surprise me if Gidley has worn the number 4 some time in his career.

Yes, in this team Gidley has been wearing the number 3, but seriously so what? I'm pretty sure most people would be clever enough to know that I wasn't suggesting a switch of sides, especially since I didn't actually say anything even remotely close to that.

Good to hear. But as I said I can only go with what you wrote. Also after your comments about gidley playing lock in the finals and experience means next to nothing come finals, I couldn't help but wonder maybe you did want the backline to change positions.

In fact I was watching the Penrith game with my dad, and he couldn't help saying contunually throughout the game:

"When did that nice person Carmont learn to tackle? I can't believe my eyes."

Classic!

I agree and disagree with a lot of you. Seage at fullback if Milton's not entirely fit. Mullen at 6 with Kidley on the bench. Reyno at 13. Smith on the bench.

Basically here's my team.

1. Seage
2. Carney
3. M. Gidley
4. Carmont
5. Quinn
6. Mullen
7. Johns
8. Perry
9. Buderus
10. Woolnough
11. Simpson
12. Newton
13. Reynoldson

14. Smith
15. Davico
16. Abraham
17. K. Gidley

* Plus the lot of you are petty. But I love it.
