I don' t know if he's a good defender, but if he gets picked ahead of more experienced options despite his handling issues, it's probably his defence that's done it.
Or that it's a trial... and coach wants to try out what he brings to the table, without risking points on a ladder. He's seen what the more experience options bring, so maybe has less reason to select them ahead of the newbie.
In the brief time I saw him play, he looked like he had a good mix of agility and power; two useful qualities for an edge defender.
I hope he gets at least six months playing big minutes ironing out his contribution and consistency (even if it is in Cup) before he becomes a (potential) bench NRL option.

I was talking about if he gets picked in the NRL team. Obviously this week’s trial team is stacked with nuffies.

I assume the coach will make the best decisions for the team. His job is riding on it.

Why would you even think he's going to be picked in the NRL team, just because he's been picked in one or two trials?

Yep, never even question a leader or authority figure!

His job wouldn't be riding on it yet....the last bloke we had in charge permanently got us a sole finals appearance and a spoon in his first 5 seasons as coach. Even if the new guy gets just half the leeway the other bloke did he'll be safe for a while yet...
The last bloke made the best decisions for the team, which is why we made the finals four straight years under his coaching (the first time in twenty years). It’s why he kept getting contract extensions. Plenty of coaches haven’t lasted long, including at our club.

He got no authority over me. I’m just trusting the experts.
Uh huh...
The last bloke made the best decisions for the team,
Say no more 😂

So Brad Arthur's now a better coach than Jack Gibson, simply because he lasted longer at our club? Such a clever take...

Was it what you were attempting to say, or just another pointless strawman comparison to clog up any opinions or topics anyone else might want to discuss?
I was pointing out to another poster that coaches aren’t solely responsible for the team’s results, they are just responsible for their actions. That’s why the fans aren’t in a position to judge them. We can only observe how they are judged by others. Somehow you took that to mean I claimed Arthur is superior to Gibson. The fact is it’s not a competition. No two coaches are in the same position. One coach isn’t even in the same position at different times at the same club. Case in point is Arthur from 2014 to 2018 under the old administration compared to Arthur 2019 to 2024 under the current one.

Then if it's not a competition and coaches can't be compared - then why did you even bring up another coach by name in the conversation that was occurring about team performance?
