A shame that @Eelogical was still riding it, but no harm done!

Backline picked itself - as did the starting pack, given Nuikore is suspended and N Brown presumably still in recovery from an injury(?).

Bench forwards look like they could use more "oomph" against better opposition, though Makatoa, Stone and Kaufusi are all goers and should do alright here.

But 17 Jakob Arthur? Give me a break... or give me back Will Smith!

Nuikore and Nrown walk straight back in the 17 when fit and available. So which 2 get dropped? Makatoa and Arthur?
I think Stone stays for his defence and shabby ability to cover hooker.
Nuikore can cover centre If need be and then shuffle other backs to provide coverage and Matto or Cartwright can play 5/8 if needed
I think playing JA is being disruptive to the halves combo and Drown being moved unnecessarily to include JA.
Not convinced he should be in the top 17.
Feel like we are robbing Peter to pay Paul.
Once Nuikore is back in the 17, surely Arthur drops out of the bench equation (unless there's backline injuries). Instead of dropping people out, I'd then use N Brown coming into the 17 to start a "forward rotation", and give people a game off every 11 rounds... again, unless there's injuries/suspensions which dictate who can't play in certain weeks.

So our Reggies game is played a day before this first grade match - with everyone named 18+ here also named to play Reggies... should confrim for us whether or not there might be any late changes afoot?

Ummmm yes time and time again, remember last year when Moses was out and Jakey boy was given the keys to the team while the senior more experienced half had to take a back seat????
He took more of the kicks because he's a better kicker. That doesn't mean he was given the 'keys to the team'. Just that he did more of the donkey work around the ruck so Drown could get into good positions to run the ball. Quite often Drown plays that same role so Moses can get wider.

So you are happy our 700k half is going to be pushed into the centres just so the coaches son gets yet another chance???
But he's not. He is starting in the halves while the coach's son is on the bench. If the game is close he might only play if there's an injury. Our forwards play so many minutes it's not like we need to rotate four merkins on the bench.

And if we get a good lead we can give our young up-and-coming backup half some minutes in first grade. Think about it. Ray Stone won't help if we get an injury in the backline. Matterson doesn't have the kicking game for the halves. So carrying a halfback on the bench, plus Drown's versatility means we are covered in every position.

Might also just be nepotism too, but there is at least a football explanation for this.

His son getting a gig no matter what was around the same time the team hit the skids last year and seemed the team stopped playing for the coach
He got a gig because we lost a starting playmaker. Most teams struggle when that happens, especially agaisnt the top teams. Arthur's seven NRL games included three eventual top four sides, plus the Roosters and Raiders. Would we have gone any better with Rankin in the team? We lost form because we lost Drown for three games then Moses for four. It's neither the fault of the merkin who had to replace them or the coach who had to play a backup halfback.

And then because you f**ken nitwits have to invent melodrama whenever a team loses it's all "ThEy StOpPeD pLaYiNg FoR tHe CoAcH!!!!"

I think some ideas or opinions were thrown around the forum, in the offseason about Dylan playing fullback.
Yeah but this was something BA said before the game.
Sean Russell is first drop fullback when Shrub is on the bench.

I think we are trying to move away from Marata being our backline solution because whilst he’s solid, he gets stood up and doesn’t offer much when there is half a chance.

That Manly game they looked like they were really having a dig, didn’t it take for Guth and Moses to have a meeting with him and the playing group to sort it out?? Let’s face it he showed in 2018 when things aren’t going his own way he’s happy to look stupid and disappear up his own datehole.

And I had no problem with Arthur getting a go when Moses was there to hold his hand. But he showed he wasn’t ready and that should of been it for the season. Instead Moses gets injured and little Jakey gets the keys to the team. Even though someone like the the Fresh Prince was back and capable of partnering Brown in the halves. A bloke who you were always to back the coach when he was elevated beyond his station……….

Dear Bedwetters,

Wasn't BA quoted in an interview last year that he does not pick his son ? That is up to his assistants as he takes a back seat when discussing his son's selection.

Furthermore, if Nrown and Niokore are available, Jarthur would be in the 2s.

Cheers

Nrown is available. He’s playing in the 2s.

And the coach always has the final say on the team. BA said that the assistants and senior players basically said he’s deserved his shot in his debut game when Drown was injured so BA selected him. That was it, not that the assistants are picking JA from then onwards.

I like the idea of rewarding guys who train hard.
It sets a good example and gives guys incentive to push themselves. Nothing worse then thinking no matter what I do I am no chance of a spot.
It is also good to see guys like N.Brown who hasn't had chance to train as much due to niggle injury not just automatically be given his spot back. Same as Cartwright. They'll need to earn it.

So Arthur has no say in his son getting picked?? Lol!! Yeah what assistant coach is going to tell his Boss his son is a plodder and nowhere near first grade standard???

He’d tell him he’s perfect back up half and sign another two year deal.

Strange bench but maybe the titans aren’t that big or the game will speed up this year. Should be an interesting game

Make up your mind clown dick.

I don't hate Jake at all, he's a talented young half who might prove to be a very good NRL player down the track.
