With Vete out already that hurts. 2 of our 3 best metre eaters gone. Which makes Manu and Ken more valuable.

Les Kiss ended up going to union coaching defensive patterns, and completely changes the whole defence structure of union.
Still crack up watching Jason Martin running around in the halves. Could play footy, but his look was a crack-up.
Will try and find an image of him somewhere.
What happened to Peter Jackson? Last I remember of him was he and Jarrod McCrackon getting sent off in a test..

Yes, RIP. Died alone in a hotel room I believe. In 1997. It was a big story at the time.

Don't remember much of Bella at Norths, he was always Manly and Canterbury to me. I remember he spilled the pill from the kick off in the '94 GF. The Bulldogs were favourites in that game (v Raiders) but that moment sort of changed the odds.

Was awesome player in Maroon was Jackson. I can still hear commentator Graeme Hughes call out his name 'out to Jackson!'. Good ole 'no holds barred' Origin days.

Was a Raiders fan back then before the Warriors. Everyone remember poor Marty Bella from the kick off. Lol. The thing is someone else should have gotten to the ball, instead it bounced around and Bella knocked on trying to pick it up.

The day Paul Osborne looked like a superstar.

Fenech is Maltese I think? Hence the falcon being a thing.. named after him (via the movie/book) because he got hit in the head with the ball so many times. Not sure about Daley, wouldn't have been Laurie anyway.
Ahh right, I struggle to differentiate Leabanese, Greek and now Maltese. No offence intended whatsoever. It's just there's not many where I'm from. I think!

Larson, Fairleigh and Moore were excellent - but Geyer, Cartwright and Van der Voort were better
A couple of years later, but Menzies, Gartner and Kosef went ok too ;)

Supported the Bears a bit as well, when I was about 10 got told if I got a decent school report I could get a winfield cup jersey and came home with the new Norths Citibank one

1 of my biggest cheers was when Taylor knocked Brisbane out in 94 with a droppie. Trying to think back to this 'daley' character, David Hall is as close. I can think of but he was solid at best

Halligan copped grief for being a bit of a plod but just looking at the 1991 Norths stats, he scored 196 points in total (as you'd expect from such an accurate boot) but topped their try-scoring with 13.

He was a great finisher, corner flag restrictions and all.

Ive spent like 20 minutes online looking for him. Youtube, Norths website, Leagues website..nothing. Sorry guys but I think I mightve got the name wrong.

He was skinny like Robbie Paul, moved like Paul as well and back then a good side stepping back was a stand out. Had a mullet, was tan like Daley but I dont think it was Laurie.

Ill keep looking lol. Feel like I gotta find it to avoid the boy who cried wolf tag

That's a good reminder of how the comp got rid of Brisbane that year. They were going for three in a row.

What's your take on the failure of the Northern Eagles? I was living there at the time but sort of tuned out apart from a really exciting finals win at the SFS (v St George I think, with the real Beaver scoring a late winner). The passion was there that day.

Geez, you've got me thinking now. Well, it was 100% not Laurie Daley. But I do recall a player that fits that description you give.

The Northern Eagles was a debacle, should never have happened but Super Greed led by Brisbane tore the heart and tradition out of the game, and Manlys fight against it left them on life support while Norths management and the failure to get that stadium up and running had them already in the grave where they would have been with or without the merger. Just been reading about that during the week actually in a manly book that was recently released, and have just finished George Piggins book and learning about how skewed things were in the Super League clubs favour was sickening.

I lost the passion for it back them which was regained when Manly returned and Des started to return us up the table.

Norths player with a mullet, only Jason Martin can fit that bill for me

A mullet in the late 80's? That doesn't narrow it down....

Only Bears players who come to mind from that period who would have a bit of a step (outside of those mentioned) are Jason Martin, Kerry Bousted, or maybe even Clayton Friend. Florimo started as a centre didn't he? He had a bit of a step too.

Yeah might be Jason Martin not that I can remember Martin. Defintely wasnt Florimo, this guy had brown hair and was much more slender. He was wearing the old Bears jerseys not the later one with the white in the middle, the red and black only strip.

Anyway, whos filling in for Vete, Lilyman and co?

Clayton Friend could be electric. Dean Bell's cousin I think.
Loved him playing for Auckland in the good old days. I think Cathy Friend, life member of the NZRL, was his mum.
And he had a mullet too.

I remember Clayton Friend quite well..it mightve been him and the commentators might have just mixed up the names and called him Daley. Not sure though and I give up now cos I find ANYONE named Daley Daly Daily for the Bears.

Never forget the test we won in Melbournes Olympic Park against the Aussies. Clayton Friend played a big part in that game. I was going for the Aussies because I hadnt heard of any of the Kiwi players, actually Freeman was the only one I knew. We were MASSIVE underdogs. That Kiwi team taught me that anythings possible. Magical night it was..
