Team vs. Roosters

He played relatively well a fortnight ago, but he didn't deserve to be rushed back ahead of Mara on form, and certainly not on account of his grief

I'm not sure if you meant to, but you seem to have put words into my mouth, there.

In his comeback match, he was one of our best. Mara had put on a couple of fine plays but overall hadn't been a stand out. I stand by that comment and am happy to agree to disagree if needbe.

I certainly wasn't arguing that he was brought back in because of his family tragedy. His wasn't a sympathy selection.

That was what I took your comment to mean

Mara didn't deserve to be dropped. He should have been retained ahead of Heremaia and Hohaia.

All good. It would't be the internet without the occasional misunderstanding. :thumn

Don't worry Jesbass, Meth is

Heremaia was one of the top performers in his comeback match.

There are two kinds of people in this world
Normal people and Mara lovers
Meth falls into the latter

Yep, Heremaia deserved his spot after his grief-enforced break and he was one of our best.

On another note, (and I haven't read much of this thread, so I apologise if I'm repeating stuff here), but I'm still expecting Shaun Johnson to make an appearance on game day. The censorship that has followed the rumour of his selection has been very interesting.

EDIT: Ah, just saw the top post on this page. So yeah, it's old news. :D

Gonna be interesting to see who gets on that plane. Surely the smoke and mirrors would be wasted if he got on a plane Thursday (I presume ahead of Saturday game) and word got out?

Have the media had their day and asked anything?

I'm gonna go he's not playing, and the censorship was just because it was plain wrong. If it was because Johnson is in the side and they want to chop out any word of it, then I agree - that's getting into murky waters.

(I am taking this stance because I am routinely wrong, and I want to be here)

^ yeah I agree. I don't think he's playing.

Would love to know:

a) where the Seymour rumour of fractured eye socket came from
b) why a guy on another forum said a Warriors trainer told him Sj was debuting
c) whether SJ's brother got his prompt from one of these forums

Yeah...anyone feel like it's been a faaaarking long week?

The truth and internet forums are often pretty distant strangers. It only takes one person to start it before it spreads like wildfire. Remember that email about the Dogs/Cows match-fixing - a lot of that turned out to be complete crap.

what a crap example to use.
We will never no what went down unless u were involved.

all we derive from that is that some people are luckier than others.

I disagree totally. Berrigan is on the bench because he can cover centre, halves and hooker. i.e like Lance.

Mara has a long way to go before he is in front of Heremia. He will get there, but he tends not to run at the right time and overplays his hand.

Mara needs to continue to do an apprenticeship and he will be the finished product in a couple of seasons.

Ivans job is to win now. Not in two years time.

The team is clearly better now with Mara coming on as the 2nd hooker rather than old ass Battler Berrigan. The benefit of Berrigan being available to play any of those positions is marginal at best because he isn't very good at any of them.

Mara isn't a kid anymore and his time is now.

I hope you're wrong, too!

The censorship thing is interesting. If it's a false rumour, why censor it? And why not censor all manner of false rumours that regularly appear? And why tell Joe Johnson to remove his comments (or tell Shaun to remove it from his profile)?

If anything, the censorship adds fuel to the fire, for mine. There's no greater way to let a rumour flourish than to make no public statement but use background methods to "keep it quiet".

a) It's not a rumour. Seymour copped an injury to the eye from Issac Luke during the Rabbitohs match. I don't know for sure if it's a fractured socket, but Seymour himself has apparently said he'll be out for two weeks.

b) I haven't seen this. Most of the communication I've seen has spawned from Shaun's brothers comments via social media, so that, coupled with Seymour's injury, lends weight to the theory.

c) Joe Johnson's comment was the catalyst for the forum comments - not the other way around.

Either way, it's an interesting process to watch. I'm not 100% convinced that he'll play but I'm highly suspicious and hopeful.

Um, that was an internet rumour. Which proved to be wrong (in some parts) Remember it said the police were waiting until the GF, then all hell was going to break loose? And a certain Kiwis VC was involved? Well, that never happened. See the comparison? Yeah you do.

Now that I hear Seymour did the eye socket v Bunnies, I see things completely differently. And I think that's really poor on the Warriors' behalf, if they were trying to cover up the fact that SJ is playing. Is it worth that much effort? For what reason?

Geezus, it's like they're trying to cover up the rapture. Although that got a hell (pun intended) a lot of media.

I think the excitement on the various forums as soon as people got wind of his possible debut is precisely why he needs to be shielded.

It's (allegedly) his debut. He's already got enough pressure on him. The expectations will be extremely high. Why push him under a media scrum that will only add to that?

I agree with the censorship, though, if the rumour is true. That took things a bit far and, for mine, had the opposite effect to what was intended.

a) sounds like it's still a rumour to me :p. I remember the incident but haven't read any reports of an actual injury. All I have read is in forums where numerous people have said Seymour's out with a fractured eye socket.

b) it was on the other unofficial Warrior's forum you frequent. I can hunt down the actual post if you want. But nearly word for word it said "got a text from my mate who's a trainer and he confirmed that SJ will be debuting against the Roosters".

c) neither of those above facts/rumours were based on anything Joe said, so I think it's very possible he read or heard those rumours and posted accordingly. Not that it makes any difference - just wish I knew the validity of a and b .

....agreed. Saturday is too far away!!

Personally, I don't expect to see Johnston in the side this week.

a) I've heard that Seymour himself said he picked up an eye injury. I've also heard that Berrigan has said he's been battling the flu, so who knows!

b) Ah yes, I do recall that being mentioned in retrospect. However, the thread that sparked debate over there starts with: "just saw on shaun johnsons brother's facebook . joe was congratulating his brother for being named to play his debut game this weekend this is so exciting this could be one of the most eagerly awaited debuts in the clubs history".

c) I just responded to this in b). :)

This is fun. :D
