Res- Godinet, Lillyman, Gubb, Mateo

Probably quite hard on Taylor- he didn't have the worst game. But I just don't see him as a hooker.

Taylor is not a hooker at all and he gives slow delivery and no darts out of dummy half.

He didn't cost us the match but we lose a lot of go forward with him there, especially stupid given that we have Godinet and Mara who are up to the job. He's off next year anyway, I'd have him starting back rower.

What's the go with Steve Rapira. He was extremely poor, no heart on defence, barely took the ball forward...

The whole side was ordinary, but his lack of effort really stood out for me.

I can't be the only one, as he doesn't feature in anyones side for this weekend.

While Martel was average, he was on the rough end of some really dodgy penalties and is a slow starter in most seasons. After a couple of games he should be right.

I hope so! For us to have anything resembling an attack, we need Martel in top form. When I say I'd drop him, it would simply be a 1-match wake-up call type dropping.

If he gets dropped, he will leave. Is that what we want?

 Yeah I imagine when you're in a battle to sign a guy on a big contract dropping him from FG isn't going to help your chances.

Why the hell should Mateo, one of the better players from last year and the strike weapon we really need, get dropped of one bad game at the start of the season when players like Johnson and Hurrell have been poor for a while and its plain obvious they are really lacking in areas of their game?

Im just so glad we bought in Thomas. Johnson is going to need some time to develop his game at least we have someone as experienced and tough as TL is to help direct the team around

We are going to have a major issue until Hurrell improves his lateral speed and learns how to tackle. I'm a big fan but he's sadly such a glaring weakness defensively and whoever is on the wing outside him is doomed as well. At the moment I'd much prefer having a safer option like Henry in that spot. The big question on him was can he take his run all over everyone style from the 20s to the NRL and we've seen that isn't the issue, but he needs to learn how to defend like a first grader and the top grade isn't the place to learn that.

It just perplexes me how we could come out looking so interested and fired up in the pre season game against Brisbane then revert back to looking like the worst team in the competition. We looked really off the pace compared to every other team over this week.

Hopefully they get a rowdy Eden Park crowd that gives them some life.

and damn I'm grateful that we have Nielsen.

I think there was a 2-part problem (at least) to Mateo's game on the weekend. First, it was Parramatta. Second, it was round 1. Mateo needs some time to click with the players around him.

I would like to see him coming off the bench.

wow, what game were you watching, Scotty ?

I thought the Bros went pretty good, I think Steve ended up with a broken nose, didn't stop him..

3rd part no one was following/supporting him for the offload, so not sure if it being coached out of them or Locke, TL and Johnson being lazy?

Johnson is as lazy as anything if things aren't going right.
I'd be tempted to send him for a wake up call drop and put Godinet at 7.

If most people are saying he is lazy after round one then it doesn't bode well for the next 25 rounds

IMO Hurrell has a long way to come in defense and should be plying his trade in NSW cup until he's up to scratch. From what I heard Laumape had decent trials form so I'd rather give him a run than putting Billy 'safe - but not really' Tupou back in. It won't happen though...

Johnson has had a LONG time to develop but is still coming up short. All the skill in the world but doesn't appear to have a true playmaker's brain. Consider Cherry-Evans: admittedly playing in what is a consistently solid team but nevertheless hit the ground running in his debut season and has never let up. And even in his rare bad games is always heavily involved (on both attack and defence). Just watching him you can see he has that uncoachable instinct for the game and will be a top halfback for a long time. With Johnson you spend most of the time wondering what the hell he is doing.

But hopefully I'm wrong and Johnson comes good. Perhaps he should only get to use twitter if the warriors win?
